That’s how it started but the ratings were bad making all those small conference teams play each other. So they started making teams like IU and UCLA play in it to boost their ratings. Cash grab.

The middle of the season doesn’t negate the end of the season. While those teams were bowing out IU was racking up a good win or two and improving their metrics. MSU had a big losing streak, too. It happens occasionally. Michigan is one thing, but Rutgers has a shoddy resume overall. Besides conference record, they have little over, IU.

How does it make any sense to be in the 11 game instead of the 12 game if you’re 1st of 4?

Strength of schedule is figured into NET, kenpom, etc… I’m not sure how it could be that big a deal independently.

It’s the worst one. Anytime you have to win an extra game it’s not good.

Like I’ve wrote repeatedly, less than 25% of the committee members could explain you NET…or Kenpom or sagrin for that matter. It’s for the fans. They obviously factored in conference record heavily.

They have a pretty deep coaching tree to choose from. Some at butler weren’t sold on him from the beginning so I’d imagine it would be easy to move on. But maybe not.

Well said. Let’s hope we can all exit peacefully as we age. Keady was a heckuva coach. It seems somewhat unfair he never made a final four. But as big as IU was in those days, Keady’s Purdue teams made a worthy rival. I suspect that both coaches appreciate that more with age. One of the greatest coaches in basketball history still in his prime with his rival able to give him everything he could handle. It was truly a different era.

I would say it’s at least debatable seeing how the guy who sees them every day in practice disagrees. I’ve defended Bates and I like the potential in Galloway and Geronimo. But minus Galloway, those other guys still have regular lapses on D. Our calling card is team defense. It’s tough to be good at team D playing young guys a lot of minutes. if Bates is a competitor and works his butt off this summer, he could see a lot of minutes next year.

I probably have as much, or more, confidence in him or Race right now as I do Kopp or Stewart. They are just struggling.

If there’s one thing that gives me confidence going forward it is what Woody did with the D. It’s not like Stewart and Kopp are great defenders either. Think if in the future we can sub those guys with some actual scorers and continue to play top 2-3 defense in the league…we could have have some good teams.
