(2027) PG - Chase Branham to INDIANA
str8baller replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I always forget this board is over here and go to the main board looking for the news. Wasn’t much action on this front during the Woody years anyways. -
Man, T Boone was made for the NIL era. He redid a bunch their facilities from football to golf. He would’ve spent to the moon on players if he thought it would bring them a title.

Getting both of those on the road is a tough break.

No. 19/17 IUFB vs. No. 9/8 Illinois - Sat 9/20 @ 7:30 on NBC
str8baller replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
He was excellent and had a couple big time throws. That one for a TD in the red zone where he threw it to the back of the end zone over a guy dropped in zone coverage was a dime. I can see why at least the one publication has him listed as the top QB drafted next year. -
Their HC is the CEO type. And in the off season they went from an A+ in the coordinator department to a D+. There’s a lesson in there.

That’s a big “if” (OSU lost at Oregon last year), but if that happens I’ll guarantee you at least one big boy, probably the aforementioned Alabama, will throw a blank check at him. At that point, I would just hope we make enough noise in the playoffs that Cig feels like he can win it all here. It’d be a good problem to have tho. -

We’re not going anywhere without top resources…coaches be damned. That’s the nature of the beast. But I haven’t seen anything yet that says we don’t have top resources. -

Nobody is doing that except new coaches. So I’m guessing that will work itself out. -

I’m surprised to see this much hand-wringing about HS recruiting. Football has decidedly moved to the “let the small schools have the freshman, we’ll get them in the portal” model. It seems basketball has trended that way. Pitino expressly said as much the other day: as long as he has money he isn’t messing with HS recruiting. Maybe 10, probably more like 5, freshman move the needle each year. Outside of that you might grab a talented guy to stash. But I wouldn’t expect teams with real money to spend it on more than 1 or 2 freshman, and maybe another project or two at essentially no cost. Kansas has been the most stable program for decades but has been absolutely directionless since NIL. I can’t imagine worrying about what they’re doing at this point. UK fans were pissed when we outbid them for Wilkerson. If they want to compensate by developing 4* recruits, more power to them. Could you imagine spending 20% of your budget on a 5* and a Lander or Hanner Parea shows up on campus? You better have a Zeller or TJD, or you’re immediately behind the 8-ball to start. Unless transfer rules get established development of freshman is going to be a small school niche while the big boys largely buy their players on the open market. (Fwiw, I suspect deep down guys like Rabjohns and Peegs understand this is a direct threat to their business model and have a vested interest in a narrative that over inflates the value of HS recruiting compared to what is actually happening. ) -
I don’t know if it will matter much to his level of success at IU, but I think I like his personality the most out of any of the coaches we’ve had this decade.

Is anybody having the sads about the offense today? Looking sharp in all facets, to me. -
Yea, I’m secretly hoping Saban comes back to a SEC school just to see him fall back to the pack a bit when he doesn’t have twice the talent everyone else has.

IUFB vs Old Dominion - Saturday, 08.30.25 @ 2:30 on FS1

This. Coaches aren’t going to bring out the good stuff in the redzone against OD in a game they controlled throughout. You’d like to see them execute the regular things a little better, but that’s the beauty of scheduling weaker teams early. -
Yea, I can’t keep up and don’t even try. Hell, I’ll be learning a couple basketball players names still by December and there’s only a dozen of them.

This LSU/clemson game has been good so far.

Oh yea…I think they improve. I don’t even think the game was that bad. Good teams play down to their competition all the time. IU didn’t last year but they will even if they’re perennial CFP contenders. It’s life. Much was made about how old dominion played USC last year; they might be good themselves. IU also will lose games they should win. As you know, ND lost to N Illinois last year. OSU lost to UM. IU has a couple easy games to work it out before a brutal 3 game gauntlet. -

Riley Leonard was awful but could run. Also ND probably had a top ten personnel unit everywhere except Dline (still good when healthy) and receiver. IU won’t have that type of talent disparity. It’s also wild to me that the expectation is potential CFP. In the basketball thread I was trying to explain how Barnes got ousted at Texas because he failed to live up to the lofty expectations he set. Expectations change quick with success. IU football fans getting worked up because they might only win 7-8 games is as much proof of that as anyone will ever need. I’m still high on this team but don’t really think a 1 loss squad is the expectation outside of Georgia, Bama, OSU, etc… IU will need Mendoza to play great and some luck (like most teams) to be vying for a CFP spot. -
I’m not sure many people besides the ESPN/SEC numbnuts think he’s a generational talent. I heard one guy on Kanells show say Friday that he didn’t think Arch was the best QB in his class. With that said…pedigree and athleticism matter. He’s a RS sophomore in his first start in probably the worst place you could be. He over thought things but looked better when the chips were down and he just played. His last play didn’t get the first down but taking on an unblocked defender and completing the throw with a guy hanging off him was a big time play. If he settles in and plays on instinct a little more he might still end up being a top QB this year. What I took away from the game was Texas’s much touted and ultra expensive roster was just…ok. They didn’t look like they had anything on OSU. There’s probably a half dozen teams with equal talent.

Rourke was really good and I thought that from game one. He was great and dropping back and hitting his number. With that said , Mendoza had a great deep ball that was a stone cold drop that would’ve made his numbers look a little better. Decent home opener. Lots to build on. -
Think Luke gets at least one more year. AD is tied pretty heavily to him and will probably fight for him. He might say “no” 100x. I think he felt pretty burned when they passed him over last time. But maybe the money would heal that wound.

Of all places, I’m pretty sure UT doesn’t suffer from a lack of support. Besides, Tennessee is a football school. So is Alabama, UF, and Texas Tech. Coaches that underperform in the postseason season, always wear out their welcome. It happens. IU fans complained about Knight at the end of his run.
