IUFB vs UCLA - Saturday, 10.25.25 @ Noon on Fox TV

Not that these ESPN stats mean much but that ‘18 Clemson team was probably one of the best, most dominate football teams of the past 10-20 years and better than most of Saban’s championship squads. So…not bad company to be in. -

I’m more interested in getting the defensive backups in. We can’t lose any more people on that side of the ball. -

I was hoping the Kansas/Self era would go out with a whimper…

Yea, that would be fairly likely the way the FBI has framed this as one giant conspiracy. They wanted to do the press conference today but didn’t have enough to charge him. I’m guessing they’re working on that. Damon Jones is already indicted on both ends of the scheme.

The thing that gives me some hope was when I was looking back at his statistical profile to get a read on him when he was first hired there wasn’t much of a trend. Some years (like last year at WVU) he had good defensive teams, other years he had teams that were led by their offense. I’m left to assume (hope) he can coach ‘em up at both ends of the floor.

I honestly had not even seen that news when I posted. Unsurprising. The NBA has had a huge issue with betting and they magically made the Doneghay stuff go away a decade-plus ago. With the integration of gambling and fantasy they’ve had several more incidents. I also just think it will be bad for the game in general. Lots of NFL/NBA fans now kind of grumble at how integrated the betting apps are with viewing experience from constant commercials to coverage that focuses on betting lines non-stop. I know I get bored by it and I’ve been gambling on sports for a long time.

Same. But mainly because it should be an easy thing to do for any competent B1G coach. Generally speaking. It’s hard to take much from the exhibition other than that I think we’llhave to be sound fundamentally on defense because I don’t think we’ll swarm teams athletically.

Bad idea. I see the SEC just suspended a ref in football. I wouldn’t be shocked if they weren’t at least investigating a gambling angle there. The widespread legalization and integration by the leagues of gambling has created a situation where it has permeated every facet of sports. It’s nearly statistically impossible that you haven’t watched a game where a player or official were compromised. They should be looking to draw more distinct boundaries, not loosen them.

If we’re 100+ ranked in Def-E I’ll have one foot out on the devries project. Iowa probably averaged a def efficiency rank of 100th or worse. The was lots of consternation at the prospect of a Chris Collins hire. For reference, their worst year out of the last five or six years in defensive efficiency was 73rd. Every other year they were around 50 or better. They do not have more talent than us generally. 50th-ish in Def-E plus a top 25 Offense gets us to the tourney pretty easily. A Fran-esque defense of 100th or worse (puke) in Def-E and we better be pushing a top 5 offense.

That would be bad because Fran was a horrible defensive coach. Maybe worse than your namesake. -

I assume the BoT has to sign off on this so not that big of a deal. But that’s a nice little piece of self-dealing if you are Whitten/Dolson…lol -
IU vs Marian (Exhibition) 10/17 7:30 B1G+

Iirc, he started really slow in one of the Caribbean exhibition games. From there it’s been shot selection. He’s taken a couple of really deep 3’s. A couple stupid shots will throw off a small sample size. Assuming the staff reigns in some of those ridiculous heat check type shots for non-exhibition/non-cupcake games and I’d say he probably gets to upper 30’s or low 40% from 3 on high volume which is about what you’d expect for a good high volume 3pt shooter in the B1G. I’m more worried about defense and being able to score when the deep ball isn’t falling with this group. -
Texas is not good. O$S is gonna stay #1 for the season and only have one decent win over an Illinois team we embarrassed.
-
I know. But that was in a cable world. Also Connecticut gets you the nyc market the same as NJ. Also the NYC market for cfb really doesn’t matter.
-
Yea…kind of dumb in retrospect. Would have been better off getting UConn.

Michigan looked a little rough without wolf and godin from the 5min I watched

I can’t believe how good of a shooter he is. Not for a big but for a freshman. He’s been a dead-eye from deep in all these exhibitions. I’m sort of excited for the Baylor exhibition. Last night did nothing to dispel fears of how we hold up athletically especially on the defensive end. Most of the scouting seemed accurate. I don’t have a ton of worry over guys like Alexis and Conerway. But Tucker, Wilkerson and Bailey are gonna have to be at least serviceable team defenders. -

We’re obviously gonna shoot it. Some of these lineups are pretty small tho, so we’ll see how we defend when it isn’t an naia school. I mostly like what I see. Offense will only get more cohesive as the year goes on. -

I was thinking the same thing. Usually they are awful. These guys sound more professional at least. -

In my defense, the Marian Sabres of Fon du Lac, Wisconsin were 16-10 last year. I’m blaming Siri. 20-4 for those of you following at home. Competition is about what you would expect. -

Ok, apparently I suck at Google searches. The broadcast said they won 11 games last year. -
