The only thing that really matters is if Devries was really Dolsons guy all along, then both WVU and IU getting snubbed was a lucky break for us. I’ve always thought IU athletics—revenue sports, anyways—needed a good break of luck to exit the rut they were in. Fitzgerald getting vetoed so we could get Cig and then everything lining up so Devries could get onboard and hit the ground running, might just be the turn in our fortunes. UNC getting unceremoniously bounced the first weekend is a hundred times preferable to WVU making a run and screwing up Dolsons hire.

Can we at least find out who the mystery candidate is before they ban him???
-
Will be golf for me, good sir. And I’m completely fine with it. I stopped believing in IU about the time they extended Crean. I still hope they win. I just like to discuss basketball, so I’ll probably keep doing that too.

I thought the Turgereon guy was funny. Anyone can whip the gullibles into a frenzy about Steven’s. But it takes a little finesse to try and pass of something as ridiculous as Turgeon. Made me laugh all the way through.

This board is about 10x more positive than about a half dozen text threads I have right now…lol. I’m sure this board would have circled the wagons and rallied the troops just fine for Brownell. All the stats you can pull up for Devries you can find equally flattering ones for him. Either way, IU is certainly not above such a hire.
-
He’s actually in the tournament. I’m pretty sure we can come off our high about Brownell given our coaching hire. By all accounts he’s a solid dude and decent coach and native Hoosier to boot.

Sounds like post hoc spin. We’re supposed to believe Dolson got googly eyes for Devries over some rum runners in the Caribbean? They’re gonna pump out those stories to make it seem like he wasn’t a backup option.
-
I think I’m with you there. Whatever you think of Devries, and I’m cautiously optimistic*, it really looks and feels like Dolson had no plan or wasn’t able to execute the one that he had. We’ll get the university puff pieces in a few days and can probably read between the lines enough to piece together a realistic narrative. *Im underlining and notating this so people don’t get their feelings hurt: lots to like about Devries moving forward
-
He also said IU is a bigger job than Iowa, so we know he doesn’t know what he’s talking about….smh
-
They’re terrible on defense. I think it had just gotten stale. His team could run and shoot the hell out of it, but I think they were ready for a change.
-
You need to be able to have a scoring offense. The good news is that he has had some years where his offense out paces his D. So he’s not a one trick pony on just one side of the ball. FWIW, kenpom adjusts for opponent and when done that way his offense wasn’t bad last year. You’re hoping here that the increase in talent equally lifts the efficiency on both sides of the ball.

Reading it again it is more ambiguous than I initially thought. But think about: nil last year was 5 and should go up. Think the tweet meant $7 nil plus revenue share which gets us over 10mil easy.
-
Easily. I know Purdue is scrambling for money expecting Smith to get north of 2mil.
-
Yea, that’s how I read it. No way we’re taking a step back.

6 to bring in a guy. 4 to send one out?? I hope the donors that insisted on keeping Woody foot the bill. Awful expensive to wait a year. Plus 30 for the new guy…will be interested to see what the buyout situation is there? Could be quite the gamble when all is said and done.
-
Iowas got a couple nice players if you can get them to play defense.
-
He’s got nothing on Creans agent who renegotiated a bigger deal for Crean in the summer before he coached a single game. If Fred Glass were a hostage negotiator he’d single handedly drop the life expectancy of the entire state.
-
No. There’s no evidence of that at all. They did what IU always does which is politic and shift responsibility. They hired a search firm. It came back with a list of young guys they thought IU could throw a ton of money at and Dolson picked one. It’s the IU way. Everything else is just narrative. And if I’m being cynical and say narrative specially pushed out by the AD. But let’s be joyous and say it was just exuberant fans caught up in the excitement of search season.
-
IU would’ve finished near the top of the B1G and a protected seed. So now we know what to expect next year.
-
Make the dance????? How does he not have the same expectations that Woody had this year? Same NIL = Same expectations. Win conference and make a tourney run.
-
If the kid going to UConn backs out and signs with IU we’ll have something.
-
Kansas has consistently nailed championship basketball hires for 40 years. I think IU fans might be the ones in for a rude awakening if they think Kansas will make a small time hire.

Stuff to like in that profile. Given previous conversations on the board I’m guessing half the posters will be put off by the pace. His Drake teams played a little faster tho
-
I think it’s obvious there are one or two donors with a boner for Brad. They can’t keep their mouth shut and have very little basketball sense. It’s kind of hilarious everything from the Stevens side is that he’s never even seriously considered leaving for IU but these donors want you to believe they almost had him….this close. lol… And not just once, but TWICE! Lmao Dolson just hired a general search firm. Hired Devries off a list from some dork consultants and called it a day. Same as every other basic AD
