It would be pretty easy for them to get a prelim injunction, I’d bet. But it would likely tie up the scholly until the season starts. This way CDD can try and take a flier on someone. I feel bad for Goode though.

This is hard for me to fathom. If nothing else my friends seem to be excited to start anew (again). At least in various text threads I have going I’d put the excitement level above: -The last two Woody seasons -nearly every Archie season -at least the first 3 and last 3 Crean seasons -the last few Davis seasons. Those were all “dead” seasons where IU was running out a coach who clearly wasn’t good enough to be here (or the roster wasn’t in the case of Creans first 3 seasons). Sadly the above represents over half the seasons of the last couple decades. So next years unknown gets the excitement level in the upper half just by default. I’d bet IU fans pack Assembly Hall and cheer like crazy nearly the whole season like they have for every coach before. The fans rarely turn on a regime before they’ve clearly proven that they’re not the answer. That usually takes a couple years at least.

I think starting him alongside Tucker and Bailey only increases your degree of difficulty keeping guys out of the paint on defense. He’s probably good enough to start on this team but I bet he comes off the bench. He’s been great in that role his whole career.

We definitely had that with Woody but the attempts were atrocious. I don’t think we’ll have to worry about guys like Tucker being shy from 3pt range. Hopefully we can defend the 3 too.

I wouldn’t necessarily be opposed. I think there’s a universe in which that works, but it would definitely change the “first weekend “with all the upsets and things that we are accustomed to.

Iowa under Fran on the low side. Fran was not a good defensive coach. Hopefully CDD is. But if Tony Bennett or Bo Ryan ran out that lineup nobody would be fretting over defense. In other words, there’s more than one way to play defense and an athletic shot blocker is nice but not a must. Hoping for a Ryan/Bennett defense is crazy with a first year team so I’m not suggesting we see that. But I think (hope) we fall some between that and Fran’s turnstile defense.

Probably. But NIL bleed off to other sports shouldn’t be a problem for IU basketball. My guess is that we’re pretty easily top 10. I think buying new players is more expensive than retaining your own, which tracks with about every professional league in existence. It also tracks with what we have seen in cbb. Guys like Edey and Smith definitely have taken at least small discounts to stay home. So basically, we’ll never get less bang for our buck than this year when buying an entirely new roster. Teams that did that last year like Michigan and Lville definitely seemed to have a ceiling despite how good they were. On the flip side, teams like UF and Auburn were able to retain a ton of talent without outrageous NILs. It’s smart that CDD got multi-year players because they’ll be cheaper to retain next year, most likely. I think a lot of pieces look like they don’t exactly fit this year but hopefully we definitely have an eye on the future. All in my pretty uninformed opinion, anyways.

On one hand not having football frees up the big east to have big money for basketball. OTOH, we need football to have big money for basketball. Not sure how to square that circle.

That’s my first foot out the door on the tourney. I’ll obviously still watch but it really kills that first weekend vibe we’ve had for the last ~40 yrs.

I know Leal is out, but are we pretty much assuming Goode is too at this point? I think having Goode back would be a net positive but swapping him out for depth in the post would be a solid move as well.

Maybe after his first title he’ll reprise Coach Knights golf show. :)

Love adding a skilled Euro kid. If we don’t land another big and bring back Goode this roster will be interesting from a play-style standpoint.

An NBA team going ten deep in the playoffs—Nevermind the Finals—is pretty rare. For people who only watch college ball, it’s kind of hard to explain how crazy that is in the NBA. There’s so much rest that teams almost always drop a guy from their regular rotation. Of course, teams rarely press in the NBA and the Pacers are making SGA run all 92 ft. Carlisle is doing a great job.

I’d think the greens would be the biggest problem followed by the bunkers and distance. The rough would be bad but most amateurs could punch out of it like finding the trees at your local. But it has to be nearly impossible to keep a ball on those greens without the spin and accuracy of the pros.

I’m not much of a YouTube golf person, but for tips and drills Padraig Harringtons is the best out there, imo. I’ve watched a couple of those Break 50’s with Bryson and they’re not bad.

Miracle run continues!

I was in middle school when our small school played them. . Played them tough but ultimately came up short. That was a really good team with him and the Nailon bros and a couple other guys that played college ball at various levels.

These guys are a rollercoaster of team. Fun when they win!

Malice in the Palace probably ruined their best chance at a title. Different era but those guys were tough. OKC coach is very well regarded young guy. Be tough to out coach him to the extent the Pacers need, but Carlisle is one of the best for sure. Always thought one of Birds few big mistakes was getting rid of him the first time.

Thomas Bryant playing real mins in a conf finals closer is nuts. Carlisle is crazy. Also, when they said it’s been exactly 25 years, I started to feel really old. I remember going to those Finals with my dad.

Because the ACC is terrible and any half decent team can run off a few unbeaten weeks and get ranked by the pollsters. Maryland and Indiana won’t have that luxury. Lville finished the season ranked higher than Michigan and Kentucky last year despite them being obviously better teams.

Creans greatest sales job was the one convincing everyone that he had to tear everything apart and start at zero needing multiple years to rebuild anything. Those years were miserable. Even at that, I remember some rumblings in year 3. In any event, once that spell was broken and we started to win fans were unforgiving of steps backwards—as we should be. And if we had taken a poll a bet a majority of fans wanted him gone well before his firing.

I’m sure Duke will be just fine but their strategy might not seem as shiny without a Cooper Flagg on the roster. Florida went hard after midmajor dudes and made it payoff eventually. It’s the wild wild west out here.
