Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)
akumanina replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Thanks for sharing! I feel numb right now. After 20 years of agony, we finally got our guy. In-state kids will be dying to play for Coach Stevens. -

Are Celtics players giving up on Stevens? Cavs just snapped 4-game losing streak. -

Looks like Celtics would pull this off. -
I think he said what he had to say. He doesn't need any distraction for his team. But I do appreciate he took time to explain the history of IU basketball to his team. I guess that's something not every coach would do.
-
Oh no I don't think and never thought I was doing any favor for this place. I was thankful that I was able to join this board after HSN crashed. In fact, I saw a lot of familiar names from the old scout site and felt like this was some sort of reunion.

We always thought it would take one great coach to bring IU basketball back to its rightful place, but in fact, now I realize it takes one great AD with a clear, ambitious vision and deep understanding what Indiana was, is, and should be all about. We needed an AD who doesn't back down to any naysayers.

How about that 'Jelan Kendrick' thread? That to me was the all time hall of shame thread. We were so desperate back then.
-
It feels different this time. Donovan thing was mostly heresay and a lot of guesswork. Some of us even checked flight schedules for private jets to connect the dots. But this time, information coming out is a bit too detailed, and that Stevens' pregame interview got me to think there might be a better chance than I thought. Still too early to tell, but I do like IU admin's efforts to make this opportunity count.

Internet and smartphones changed the whole world, and the way people communicate and exchange info. The amount of information and disinformation is overwhelming. Hope this 'Brad Stevens to IU' is legit. We can't have another Billy Donovan incident.
-
Ohio State DG guy doesn't look like someone who would personally know a billionaire, let alone a billionaire IU booster. But like they say, you can't judge a book by its cover.
-
Many guys including me came over from HSN, and helping you guys a lot for this incredible traffic. It's quite fun though. Also lots of information.

Compared to this, whatever we say is politically correct.

Thanks for sharing. I liked him as our next coach if Stevens doesn't work out, but now I like him even more. As Beilein looked always calm and collected, I thought he'd be quite introverted and maybe a bit anti-social, but I was wrong. Coaching prowess would be the most important aspect for the next coach, but a new coach should also be a friendly person because he will have to interact and shake hands with tons and tons of people in a lot of occasions. And that'd be more than what Beilein did at UM because IU's a basketball first and foremost school.
-
IMO, Beilein is not behind Izzo/Howard/Painter. Howard's early success doesn't guarantee his longevity. Gotta wait for few more years until he establish his own culture. To me, Beilein is right behind Izzo.
-
If I were Dolson, I would hire Beilein and give him good amount of money under one condition; hire an IU guy (Fife or Lewis, or Cheaney) as his top assistant, work with him closely, and teach him so he can be a successor when Beilein retires. I mean...if Stevens is not coming.
-
OMG. Never heard a more damning comment than this on ANY coach. This is arguably worse than "so and so player can't guard a chair."
-
IU used to be pretty, but now old. Duke is pretty and young, so is UNC. It'd be awfully hard to beat the youth. We gotta put a full court press on Brad. It's now or never.
-
Gosh I loved her so much in my middle and high school days.
-
He can be a very good baseball coach with all kinds of creative signals.
-
Mr. Dolson is the real deal. I like his assertiveness. It's ok and I can live with "no" from Stevens as long as IU pursues him real hard and shows sincerity in doing so.
-
Exactly. Just as the Alabama AD would be considered a failure if he's managed everything excellent except the football program, Indiana AD would be a failure if the all the other 23 sports are managed excellently except men's basketball.
-
Hey Brad, your body language and eye movements tell me you're trying to hide your feelings and emotions. I really like what I see even if you don't end up here at IU, but it's time to come home.
-
I see it this way. For some people, 1% chance means it's impossible, but for others, they think there's a chance.
-
I actually like Beilein. If Stevens is an absolute no and other young candidates are hesitant or no go, Beilien can be an excellent mid-term choice; he's just not our long term plan. That's all. I would personally be happy with Beilein and Dane Fife as his top assistant. Under Beilein's tutelage (on top of 10 years under Izzo), Fife will be ready in 5-6 years from now.

Bilas should wait until K retires and see for himself that how toxic Duke fanbase can become. Hope they suffer as much as we've had.
