IUFB at Penn State - Saturday, 11.08.25 @ Noon on Fox-TV
go iu bb replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
You were so excited that you posted it 4 times. :) Wikipedia hasn't been updated since the season began. At that time, it had IU with 715 losses and Northwestern with 712. Northwestern has 4 losses this season, which would put them at 716. From Wikipedia: "The following data is current through week 0 of the 2025 season, " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Division_I_FBS_football_win–loss_records Also, it's possible for Wikipedia to be wrong. -
IUBB vs Marquette - Sunday, 11.09.25 @ 1:00 ET on ESPN

It's appropriate that Miller looks confused and a bit panicked while Woodson looks disinterested. -
I don't care about all the excuses, at the end of the day he's still the AD and in charge of hiring or firing coaches. He hired Woodson and probably isn't firing him. He is also responsible for the terrible extensions/raises for both Tom Allen and Woodson. Bring in a real AD who actually knows what he's doing and how to evaluate potential coaches. All Dolson knows is fund raising. When Woodson finally gets fired, Dolson should be shown the door along side him.

lol, ESPN's win probability tracker is broken. It has the scores backwards, so the farther behind Marquette gets the higher it says their chance at winning is. -
Don't forget that athletic departments are "non-profit," which means they don't have a bunch of money saved from profitable years. They have to spend what they bring in. That's why years with decreased revenue, like during COVID, can really, really hurt them. Up front money allows them make quick, expensive purchases without having to go through the trouble of getting donor money or loans from their schools. Most of the money would probably be squandered, since athlete departments (and the schools themselves) aren't really incentivized to spend money well or run efficiently.

(2024) - SF Bryson Tucker to Washington via Portal
go iu bb replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree. In the last 2 years, he averaged 2.7 and 2.0 assists per game. This year he has 7 assists through 2 games (3.5/game). He is a willing passer. I think he had bad coaching on bad teams with a poor offensive philosophy. That said, I wasn't and I'm still not sad that he's gone after 3 years of Woodson "coaching." -

Indeed it is. My point is that while the players he brought in (from JMU and other places) weren't highly ranked out of HS or even in the portal, they do actually have talent. Ponds, Fisher, and Kamara are all All-American players, for example. So even though they weren't ranked highly out of HS and went to JMU, they're obviously quite talented. So he hasn't gone 21-2 during his time at IU without talent, he's done it with talent that flew under the radar. Winning with less 4 and 5 star players? Definitely. Wining with less actual talent? The gap isn't as large as it would appear when looking at player rankings and it's even smaller this year than last. And, yes, he's a better coach in every aspect than either Woodson or Fickell could ever hope to be.
-
I guess it depends on what you mean by "more with less" as far as Cignetti is concerned. As far as ratings out of HS and even the transfer portal are concerned? Absolutely. As far as actual talent? Not really, this team has multiple All American players and NFL prospects on it, probably the most of any IU time in a long time, maybe ever. Cignetti and the staff seem to be very good at evaluating and developing the players, as well as using them in ways that takes advantages of their strengths while masking their weaknesses.

IUBB vs Alabama A&M - Wednesday, 11.05.25 @ 8:00 on BTN

Yes, at the 2:51 mark then didn't score again. Hence almost 3 minutes without scoring. The post was a joke, btw. -

The walk-ons didn't score in almost 3 minutes at the end of the game. We're doomed. The CDD experiment is a failure, it was fun while it lasted. -
Notre Dame in position to get in the playoffs despite 2 losses and a weak schedule simply because they're Notre Dame? Who would've thought it? Oh, right, I did. I'll go ahead and give myself a pat on the shoulder.

He probably has the bundle which includes ESPN.

I would disagree. That was a team with some veterans, including TJD who is an NBA player and statistically one of the best players in IU history. They added some talented freshmen, including lottery pick JHS. In other words, overall a veteran team with 2 NBA players. 8 of their 12 losses came by 11+ points. Instead of looking at it as an overachievement, it looks pretty much like the opposite to me. They also started the year at 48 in KenPom and finished at 50. Not as big of a drop as other Woodson teams, but a drop nonetheless. Preseason 13th in the AP poll and 14th in the AP poll, peaking at 10 and 8, respectively. So, at best, it could be viewed as meeting expectations, in my opinion, although I think they underachieved.

OSU scored 118 points but won by only 16, giving up 102 points to IU Indy. lmao

I hear what you're saying and I've had that same thought. However, Boise State and ASU (undeservingly) getting byes also messed up the rest of the seeding so Oregon and Georgia played better teams in the second round than they would have with proper seeding. Those two played the two teams that eventually met in the finals. I remember the discussions about how getting a 5 or 6 seed last year might be better than getting a bye. Crazy. The point is, it should be to a team's advantage to get a bye, and it should be this year.

Yes, but he's injured and not on the roster this year. Instead, he's being a student manager or something for now. -
16 wins or bust.
-
It's kind of crazy thinking about how IU would have a great chance to make the old 4-team playoff format. In just year 2 of Cignetti. The only tough regular season game is at PSU, which ESPN gives IU a 77.1% chance of winning. They give IU greater than 96% against Wisconsin and Purdue. The first undefeated regular season in school history would be so amazing.

Sampson was able to get a commitment from Bud Mackey, who is from Kentucky. Of course, in the end he didn't come to IU. -
Good point, but I imagine it would have to be a very big name to have that kind of pull right after being hired.
-
That might hurt their chances at the coach at the top of their list. Accept that job without even knowing who your boss will be? It's a great position but that might make some of the candidates think twice. Of course, worst case is they don't get along with the new boss and get fired in a few years with a huge buyout, which doesn't sound too bad to me.
