They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
go iu bb replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm the one you're referring to an I wasn't watching IU basketball as a baby. Sorry. I vaguely remember the '87 team and didn't really get into IU basketball until the early 90's, over 10 years after Woodson was gone. Plus, he doesn't get brought up in IU all time lists that happen over and over on IU fan discussion boards, even by those who would have watched him play. I've seen plenty of names of players from the 50s an 60s but not him. But enlighten me, what was the best IU game you watched as a 1 or 2 year old? -

Same. I was alive during part of Woodson's playing days but too young to remember (born in '77). I had never even heard of Woodson until a few years ago, before the Miller hire, when he was mentioned as a possible coaching candidate. He may have been a good player, but he wasn't good enough that he would get mentioned in all-time IU greats list discussions on message boards. I've been on IU message boards for almost 30 years now so I've seen plenty of those discussions and his name simply doesn't come up. -

Good background but his record has been terrible and he hasn't been anywhere long enough to really get an idea of what he'd be like long term. I just don't get it.

Who are possibilities for Coach TBD? With May going to Michigan, Schertz probably starting a new job, and Pearl getting older and more unlikely, it's time to identify our flavor of the month to yearn for when Woodson is finally gone. I find Amir Abdur-Rahim intriguing. Bryce Drew failed spectacularly at Vanderbilt but has done well at Grand Canyon. Has he learned and improved or is he like Alford and just good at mid-majors?

I want Woodson gone because I don't think he can be successful as a college coach. If he proves that wrong by making the S16, I'd be fine with keeping him for a while longer. I doubt he makes the tournament next year but right now we don't even know who will be on the team. Maybe he'll get the overwhelming amount of experienced talent he needs to succeed. -

Ugh, people can't even bother to read the whole thing. I should've been obvious sarcasm as it would be an idiotic plan then I say: -

Thanks for telling me something I already know. I thought the sarcasm was apparent but I guess not. Even if that were the master plan, it'd be a truly idiotic plan. -

Putting my response to this here rather than the coaching carousel thread so @Stuhoo doesn't yell at me. Maybe keeping Woodson another year is part of Dolson's master plan to make sure the next coach is given some time. He saw how Crean was shown patience the first 3 years after inheriting nothing so he plans to do the same thing again without the sanctions. He knows that Woodson will drive the program into the ground and there won't be any talent left for the next coach. (Edit: The above is sarcasm. It would be an idiotic plan but I'm well aware that there is no plan as I say right after this.) I don't really believe that is Dolson's plan but I do think it has a good chance of working out that way. -
Yeah, I won't be watching next year. If they don't care about the basketball team, why should the fans?
-
At this point, it looks like Dolson doesn't give s**t about the fans. Can't even be bothered to release an official statement in support of Woodson. He must just figure the fans will be there regardless. Opposing coaches will use this lack of support against him in recruiting, even in the portal.

My thoughts exactly. It's P5 but they don't make things easy for the basketball coach while still expecting results. -
IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving

IU finishes in 7th place. Ching Hwee Gan (3rd) and Mariah Denigan (7th) scored in the mile. Peplowski (7th) and Peagle (11th) scored in the 100 free. The 400 free relay got 8th place. https://swimswam.com/2024-ncaa-womens-championships-day-4-finals-live-recap/ -
Good, that's a bullet I don't even need to worry about IU dodging.

He still did even though it wasn't allowed.

Last day of the championship meet. IU has 2 swimmers poised to score points in the 100 free. Peplowski is in the A-final and Peagle is in the B-final. Ching Hwee Gan will probably score points in the 1650, she's the 3 seed. IU is also the 9 seed in the 400 free relay. Diving prelims are happening now but they should have at least 1 diver scoring points. Skyler Liu is the 12 seed entering prelims. -

I think they were ranked 8th or 9th in the power ranking entering the meet. They (swimswam) usually base those on how they think teams will place at the meet. Link to the day's recap: https://swimswam.com/2024-womens-division-i-ncaa-championships-day-3-finals-live-recap/ -
Auburn looks kind of rattled. Turnovers, bad fouls, giving up rebounds, etc.
