  1. Carson Tyler won 10m platform diving so he's going to Paris.
  2. Parratto qualifies for her 3rd Olympics. Something interesting in the article which I didn't know was that IU has had a fiber in every Olympics since '64. Impressive. https://iuhoosiers.com/news/2024/6/18/parratto-punches-ticket-to-paris-third-olympics?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1kiEAePFpfQ6eby-z4M0a1VGPC0E4PBn7X_NzmxIlPIoM78gOHXMup8DY_aem_ZmFrZWR1bW15MTZieXRlcw
  3. Matheny finished 2nd in the 200 breast so he'll likely be going to Paris.

  5. I really appreciate the mods making sure this board stays on topic, especially when they change the title to include the previously off topic discussion.
  6. Loyer excels at having a punchable face. Easily top 5 in that. I'd personally rather have Catchings on my team than Loyer.
  7. King wins the 100 breast to secure her spot on her 3rd Olympic team. Peplowski finished 5th and Pieroni 6th in the 200 free to probably make the team.
  8. Matheny just misses a chance at the Olympics with a 3rd place finish. 0.07 seconds behind 2nd and 0.15 seconds from 1st. A better LCM swimmer means he probably needs to work on his turns and underwaters a bit to really improve in SCY. Other IU qualifiers: King - 1 in the 100 breast finals, Pieroni - 5 in the 200 free finals, Peplowski - 7 in the 200 free finals For those that don't follow swimming too much, Pieroni and Peplowski can (likely) make the Olympics team by just finishing in the top 6 of the 200 free instead of top 2 as for most events. This is because of the 800m relay. Off topic from the meet: This meet so far just makes my thought that much stronger that if IU did a better job of recruiting the state of Indiana, they'd be competing for NCAA championships every year. Carmel especially, but there are several other strong swim programs which produce some great swimmers. I've often wondered why IU doesn't land those swimmers. Does Looze not have good relationships with the coaches?
  9. Matheny is the #2 seed in the 100 breast going into the finals tonight but it will be a very tight race. Only 0.44 seconds separates the 1st and 8th seeds. Cody Miller missed the final.
  10. An ad disguised as an article but it is about Anna Peplowski. I didn't realize she has the current #2 time in the US for the 200 free. Sounds like she has a good chance at going to Paris. https://swimswam.com/anna-peplowski-watch-out-world-this-amazing-young-talent-is-on-a-mission/

    (2025) - G Meleek Thomas to Arkansas

I don't think IU has ever had a sorcerer. I hear he can work some magic with the ball.

    (2025) - (C) Malachi Moreno to Kentucky

This line made me laugh. The author isn't very good at math. While technically true, the percentage of 7-footers is much, much, much smaller than 5% since there are over 8 billion people in the world and only 3000 of those. That percentage, 0.0000375%, is so much smaller than 5% that choosing that number is silly. Approximately 3,000 people around the globe are 7-foot-0, or taller, which is less than 5 percent of the world’s population.

As of March, Woodson was the 13th highest paid coach in the country. That might have changed a little with the coaching shuffle but he's still easily top 20. Doesn't make lists of the top 50 coaches. Money well spent. AH will be here soon to defend Woodson.
  15. Wasn't Purdue over committed for next year? This seems like an odd choice of who to cut. lol Seriously, though, there have been rumors of this for a year. I'm not sad that it happened. Screw 'em.

#3 getting an offseason so he can relax and spend time with his family. College coaching takes a ton of work.

Steve Hart wasn't a very good basketball player but he was incredibly athletic. I remember him jumping over some guy in a game.

Woodson and the HT on his new roster

It worked out pretty well. If you consider having both a bad offense and a bad defense, getting blown out by pretty much any team with a pulse, finishing in the middle of the pack of the B1G, and missing the tournament as working out pretty well, that is. Woodson says Woodson "did his job" so I guess he does.

Woodson and the HT on his new roster

No, everyone knows they're both going to start. It's the ridiculousness of his comment. He makes it sound like he's running some sort of experiment, like playing 2 bigs is something new. It also implies that he'd make a change if it doesn't work out which is funny. Even if they don't play well together, he'll continue to start both.

Glad he's willing to try something new. I can't wait to see how that innovative experiment will work out.

    IU Basketball News and Notes

An NBA coach coaches the players the GM gets him. He might have some feedback on who he does or doesn't want, but that's it. The GM does all the work in regards to obtaining the players and contracts. They have a collective bargaining agreement which makes the contracts binding and has rules regarding free agency. There is a draft so the only recruiting is done on free agents and that is probably only a little wining and dining along with a dollar figure. The coaches get breaks in the summer to go on vacations and spend time with their families. College coaches are the coach and GM in one so they have to do both jobs. Recruiting HS players is a long and labor intensive practice which involves watching them play (usually many times), in home visits, unofficial visits, official visits, regular texts/calls, etc. Some of this the assistants do but a good HC still puts in plenty of the work. Recruiting from the portal is probably the closest thing to NBA free agency but it's still work the coach and not a GM has to do. There is no collective bargaining agreement so contracts aren't binding and the transfer portal means players can suddenly decide to leave. The coach has to be constantly recruiting both new and current players. The summer is spent recruiting and coaching. I'm not sure "NBA-lite" is the right term.

    They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

They were upset but not blown out like Woodson has been. But you're right, Woodson is as good as or better than Hurley. I'm looking forward to our back-to-back championships. The first will be this year or next, do you think?

Additional context: Year 1 blowout loss was with a team that had one of the best big men in IU's history on it. Year 2 blowout loss was with that same big plus a PG taken in the middle of 1st round of the NBA draft. Did Hurley also do less with more like Woodson has done? I think not. He had to rebuild after the mess Ollie left. I expect the team this year will underperform the talent just as Woodson's teams all 3 years.

Indeed. Consistency was a major issue with Crean. He'd have really good years but couldn't consistently field a good team.

20-21 was the COVID year so I can understand why the NCAA didn't care that he played only 6 games early in the season. In a normal year, that would give another year of eligibility but he already got that. In 19-20, the 12 games were in the 2nd half of the season, like Goode's games the year he was hurt. It's not surprising they denied the waiver for that and I agree that it does show how they'd likely rule on Goode. Although in this case he also played 12 games, which might be too many. Regardless, I've never seen Goode as likely to get a waiver and this just strengthens that opinion.
