The new Adidas deal is almost done. Unless I'm misunderstanding something it doesn't look as good as the previous deal. 10 years, $54M for this deal versus 8 years, $53.6M from the previous deal. Unless there are ways to increase that amount, that's over $1M/year less. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-athletics-and-adidas-finalize-10-year-contract-extension/

So if you have a bad year? Fired/demoted. - This already happens. They ride the bench or transfer. Unionization is a bridge too far for me though. Once they demand double pay to play on holidays or strike to get a bigger share of the Adidas contract, I'll focus my time & attention elsewhere. - It's always confusing to me how the players getting paid detracts from someone's ability to enjoy the watching them play. Unionization would likely also lead to a collective bargaining agreement which might limit how much schools can directly pay the players, might limit NIL without actual work, and might restrict the currently unrestricted free transfers.

The hits just keep coming. The NCAA is still looking for Congress to save them from themselves. Next step is unionization and collective bargaining agreements. https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/40541501/court-ruling-seeks-test-decide-athletes-employees

In the past, I would've agreed with this but the transfer portal and NIL really changes that. A team can be completely rebuilt in a short amount of time. Miller and Woodson have shown that IU still has enough clout to land good HS talent. IU has had talent, they've just had bad coaches. -

Similar to how they blew out Army, Louisville, and Morehead State by 30 points last year? They should be 30 point blowouts but this is still a Mike Woodson coached team. -
It's Dukie V.

Spoiler: He didn't include IU. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/40534336/****-vitale-early-mens-sweet-16-teams-2024-25

I wonder if he even remembers the name of the school they were at before CU. He just refers to it as "HBCU." "Everyone's Super Bowl." They were 4-8. lmao

This schedule works out well if Woodson is able to get his team to blow out the teams they're supposed to blow out. if they have close wins against those teams like they did last year, this schedule will hurt them. If they lose to teams they should beat in addition to not winning by very much against others, it'll really hurt them. If they have more than 2 loses in the non-conference, that won't be good. -

So if IU was a better team their NET ranking would've been better? Ground breaking stuff right there. -

That doesn't work with this coach. His teams tend to get blown out by good teams, even his best team did. -

Good for them. I don't believe our goal is to be like Penn State, Nebraska, Maryland, or Iowa so how they schedule is moot. -
I hope the current players aren't trying to learn from him.

It's a new team. They're young. They need to learn to play together. Mike Woodson can't hit shots for them. It's not Mike Woodson's job to get shooters shots. Mike Woodson isn't going to talk about the over helping on defense leaving 3-point shooters wide open, he just isn't. -
Probably Big Ten games.

I don't know how often they're updated but I'm guessing additions to other teams since the last update. I'm sure the fans of schools like Rutgers, Penn State, and Northwestern are glad we kept him. -

I just saw that this "All Star" team isn't thought that highly of by the computers. Torvik has them at #31 after they dropped a few days ago from 23. For reference, the summer before TJD's senior season Torvik had them at 11 or 12. Last year's team was ranked about the same as this one. With Woodson as the coach, that doesn't fill me with confidence. -

People like winners. Yes, the way to unite the fanbase (as much as is possible) is to win. If a coach doesn't win, the fan base won't be united regardless of how charismatic he might be. Even a coach who loses a lot wouldn't unite the fanbase against him since there are plenty who would still defend him and say he just needs more time. -

Outside of McCracken and Knight, IU has been pretty bad at hiring coaches. So Woodson is better than Miller, Crean, Dakich, and Davis? That's not exactly a statement of excellence. -

Johansen is the US head coach for the 4th Olympics in a row. Quite impressive but not surprising seeing how many great divers he's had at IU. https://swimswam.com/usa-diving-names-coaching-staff-for-paris-2024-olympic-games/ -

As @Hoosierfan2017 said, 25 wins should be the floor. They should be in the mix for the Big Ten championship and make it to the 2nd weekend of the NCAA. Since that team lost by double digits in 8 of their 12 losses (66.7%), getting blown out less should also happen. Less than that would be very disappointing. Even when he had a decent roster with an AA big man and a first round lottery pick point guard, it was only a so-so year. Good compared to recent history but far from a great year. -
