We should grab him. He'll fit nicely in the starting lineup with Reneau and Sparks. We'll just need 7 more bigs after that to round out the rotation.

IU likes to use the reverse as a way to keep coaches too long: past failure is no indicator of future failure.

Had 1 or 2 transfers? Sure. No one is disputing that you can add a few good players through the portal which makes your team better. What people are doubting is if you can build the majority of your roster from the portal and be successful? The majority of teams that have a high number of transfers haven't done well. Even this year, Woodson was using the excuse 2/3 of the way through the season that this was a "new team" that was "still getting to know each other." That was with more returning than likely will be this next year.

Why have that conversation when there are over 50 games left in the season? Oh, right...

I'm going to have to disagree. If we got a ball player who was from Mars that would be huge, world changing news. I would care.

Most want Woodson fired.

The fans are getting more and more impatient because IU has hired terrible coach after terrible coach. The fans are noticing it. Uninspired hires like Woodson won't generate a lot of love or patience. When he was hired, there was a collective "WTF!?" across the fanbase. So when the coach that no one wanted started showing signs that he can't cut it, the fans want him gone. Especially after Miller and the last 20+ years of combined incompetence with more bad seasons than good seasons. What's going unnoticed is that it's only the vocal fans that are getting impatient though. Many more are just losing interest. This will catch up to IU soon if they keep f**king around keeping bad coaches too long only to replace them with an equally bad or worse coach. That's their MO. Since Knight they've hired: Assistant coach with no head coaching experience and not even much assistance coaching experience. They caved to the players with this hire. Has done terrible since then so more time wouldn't have helped. A HC that was in trouble with the NCAA at the time they hired him. Great coach but this blew up in their faces. Given a 5 year show cause. Should IU have kept him despite that? Crean. A weird guy that was a total spaz. Up and down. Alienated HS coaches with his approach. Did terrible at his next job so more time wouldn't have helped. A mid-major HC. Looked like an okay but uninspired hire at the beginning. Definitely didn't create a lot of excitement. Then he turned out to be a terrible coach. His personality should have been obvious during the interviews and he should never have been hired. He continues to struggle at his next job, is that also the fault of IU fans? More time wouldn't have helped. An old NBA assistant coach with 0 college coaching experience. An ex-player that no one except the administration and a few big dollar donors wanted. Has 0 recruits for next year and many spots to fill. You think more time would help? Which of these coaches were better hires than they seemed? Which should have been given more time by the fanbase? In what way did the fans make these coaches as bad as they were? The AD's office makes the hires, not the fans. Stop trying to shift the blame of their incompetence onto the fans. The fans just see how bad the hires are.

I wasn't saying you didn't hate it, just that my own negative feeling wasn't strong enough to call hate. But it was definitely a "WTF, this really sucks" moment when announced.

IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving
go iu bb replied to LIHoosier's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
Yeah, that is probably a good assumption. He's been training with someone else (I don't remember where, west coast/CA, I think) since early in the season. Hasn't competed for IU. What's weird is how both he and Ray don't really give answers when asked. Such an odd situation. -
I don't know if I would use the word hate, but I didn't like the hire at all when it was announced. Matta and Fife gave me reason for optimism which quickly faded. Every year he's had a bad losing streak and had to recover from it. Every year underperformed preseason expectations.
-
Right. If you look at last season with the thought that they had a lottery pick and one of the best players in IU history (who happens to be playing well in the NBA now), then last year is actually a pretty disappointing underachievement. I would note that they did underachieve the preseason expectations of just about everyone, which Woodson has done every year.
-
You just need to look at the football hires over the last 50 years to see that this is true. Knight was luck.

Care to elaborate? Also, did you mean capital H?

Liam saw the system but at that point Woodson was still on the record as saying he wanted to play a more modern 4-out style of basketball and just played the way they had because of the personnel he inherited (TJD and Race) but a change was coming. I bet that's what they sold him. Liam would also play with his buddy Queen and a very good point guard in Fland in this modern style of offense. Then the season happens. Same style with no changes except that it's worse without TJD. Team struggles against bad opponents and gets blown out by almost any team that has a pulse. Fland commits to UK and Queen to MD so he would no longer be playing with them. Woodosn goes on the record saying IU shoots enough 3s, we need to play through the post, and the college game is played inside out. Those statements show the lie of wanting to play a more modern style of basketball. Also, while the season is going down the tubes, Woodson is throwing players under the bus while not taking any blame himself. Let's not forget that he knows Reneau so he might be hearing bad things directly from him. On top of all that, IU stops communicating as much has he and his family would like. This is a dude whose signature celebration move is to mime a phone call so I think talking to people is important to him. But sure, the fans are to blame.
-
If he believes that, he's even more out of touch with the fanbase than thought. As you can see, there are still rumors and people who haven't given on Woodson being gone. It's not quite to were it was before the "leak" there's still a lot of it after the Liam decommitment. That's not going to change and will probably get worse when IU flames out in the B1GT. If Woodson is staying, there needs to be something official from the AD's office, even if it's just a press release. A press release would be pretty dismissive of the fans though, at this point a press conference were reporters can ask questions is really needed. Woodson staying says they don't care about basketball but no press conference says they don't care about the fans, either. The fans who spend money. The money the school wants.

This doesn't surprise me at all. I was very unimpressed with the Dolson hire and didn't really believe he was fighting hard to get rid of Woodson. If Woodson is retained (likely) and does as poorly as expected next year and beyond (also likely), Dolson should also be fired (unlikely). I want a real AD.
-
Son of a ... Oh well, it was worth a try. Go iu bb isn't willing to do it for less, go iu bb is worth too much.
-
Who do you think you are talking to go iu bb without go iu bb directly addressing you? Is go iu bb getting the arrogance right? Wait, of course I am. Go iu bb is perfect.
-
I'll take the gig after Woodson is finally gone. I am willing to get paid millions of dollars to not coach, not recruit, not talk to the press, etc for 4 years. For that money, I'd be fine with people hating me.
-
Brutal but I don't disagree. IU administration keep f**king around and find out that people no longer care.
-
No name attached? Like the Indiana University Simon Skjodt Basketball Team playing in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Simon Skjodt Court with Simon Skjodt instead of Indiana on the jerseys..
-
A "leak" said he was back. Nothing official from the AD. That said, I'm not holding my breath that Woodson won't be back next year.
-
We wanted a guy like Chris Ledlum last year. That doesn't bode well for the type of player he's looking for.
