Transfer Portal w IU Interest
go iu bb replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
He can help them buy a house with their NIL money. -
He's planning on visiting IU soon, probably some time this month. Rabby's description of his play: "Long and bouncy, Hill already has the ability to block and alter shots on the defensive end. He's an outstanding lob finisher, can play well above the rim and runs the floor well."

Seems good at making good snap decisions and executing on them. Just what one's looking for in a guard.

2027 General Recruiting Thread (IUBB)

He hasn't been offered, but IU is watching and keeping in touch with Cooper Zachary from Fishers. I'm guessing this is probably a long game type situation where he'll go to a mid- or low-major school first then they'll be in a good position if he does well and decides to transfer. He is supposed to be pretty good but he's small, listed at 5'10", 150 lb. Maybe I'm wrong and a high-major like IU or PU will take a chance on him hoping he's the next Braden Smith. https://247sports.com/player/cooper-zachary-46156011/ -

We lose a good portion of our team again after this year, including most, or possibly all, of the starting lineup so I agree that building some momentum this year is important. A tournament birth should be the expectation. This year he has the advantage of being able to take an international trip to get in extra practices and games played which should help them gel earlier. This year he had his son to build around and a vision to sell. If that fails, it'll be that much harder to sell that to good players next year. I'm not saying he can't recover from a bad first year, just that it becomes that much harder so gaining momentum early is important. UL had the advantage of playing in the ACC, which was very weak last year. Decent team but not as good as the record would indicate. IU has a much tougher schedule. -
(2026) - Anthony Thompson

According to 247, 11 of those top 15 made it in yesterday to see him. The exceptions were UNC, BYU, Auburn, and Kansas. IU was there at the same time as OSU, Georgetown, and ND. It'll be a battle to land him. I hope the new coaching staff doesn't have to make up too much ground. -
Wrong Davis. Hubert Davis of UNC is the Davis who is talked about in the article and is being referenced in the comment you replied to.
-
I imagine they'll all do coaching as well but they're being brought in more for their recruiting. They all have experience scouting opponents, coaching, player development, etc.
-
I'm not surprised to see this with 5 assistant coaches instead of 3. 2-3 who are strong recruiters and the others have a strength of coaching and player development.
-
Rabby is saying the Clark addition might round out the coaching staff. He has backtracked from Bargen not being in a coaching to position to now saying he'll be a coach but not do much recruiting. Adams, Clark, and Johnson will be the recruiters. He's not 100% on this, but is he ever? Says that adding Justin Bailey is still a possibility.

Wrong thread. This is the thread where you ask why would a P5 assistant coach take a job at IU. There are several other threads for you to complain about the fans questioning the roster construction, the roster thread and transfer portal thread seem like good spots.
-
Adam's isn't being paid more than Woodson assistants. Hunter was getting $450k before an annual retention bonus and other bonuses. He was making over $500k all said. Rosemond also had a base salary over $400k and had similar bonuses.

I like the Rod Clark hire. CDD seems to want to run a system which would result in a really good team if it were to have the type of athletes that SEC teams tend to recruit. In fact, several of the transfer recruits they went after (won and lost) they were competing against SEC teams to land. Bringing in a recruiter from an SEC team, and a good team at that, will only help with the transition to having that type of talent. He might also have the connections to help recruit players from the south from his time at TN. Looks like he could also complement the midwest recruiting. He, of course, has the connection to Sunrise Christian. Whether he is really just a recruiter or also helps with player development we'll see. The articles I've read do give him some credit with player development but that is typical for assistant coaches.

My understanding is that Bargen won't be in a coaching role.

Kentucky looks to make athletic department LLC
go iu bb replied to AZ Hoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
We're having this conversation yet again? People want to watch successful teams. IU still has a large fanbase but it is shrinking and becoming more apathetic because IU hasn't been good consistently for the last 25-30 years. Part of that is because of the players. Teams need good players (and coaches) to win. So without that, people stop paying attention. Players need the exposure the schools provide, schools need the skills the players provide. One doesn't exist as it is without the other. Do you know the names of any previous basketball players? Yes, you do and not just because they played at IU. You know them because they were good or great players who happened to be at IU and helped build the program. To put it another way, if it had ever truly been the amateur sport that it was supposed to be with the players being students first and foremost with basketball being a fun past time so no recruiting or anything like that, college basketball wouldn't be what it has become today. -

Rabby says that Curtis is still a possibility but unlikely at this time. He does not consider him a developmental guy, he just doesn't think he'll end up at IU. -
Tayton Conerway to Indiana!!!!

He's in the draft but that is just to get feedback. He'll still be at IU next year. -

Rabjohns says the roster is pretty much set as far as the portal is concerned. The last 2 spots will probably go to Goode and a developmental guy or 2 developmental guys if Goode can't get another year. -
Braylon Mullins (2025) SG - to UConn
go iu bb replied to Barrel Rick's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Rabby said that during an in-home visit which actually occurred at a restaurant, Woodson just sat at the end of the table eating ice cream and ignoring everyone. Are we sure we hired the Mike Woodson that went to IU and not one that went to PU? It seems like he came in here to destroy the program from within. Was he Knight's Trojan horse? -
Jason Drake to Indiana from Drexel

You could have made the thread at that time. You didn't so Old Fart did today. You complain a lot. I thought you liked people doing unpaid work. You should be praising Old Fart instead of complaining since he's not getting paid for this. -
(2027) - PG Jaxson Davis
go iu bb replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
The last Jackson Davis we had was pretty good. What's that? Oh, it's Jaxson? Sounds the same, which is good enough for me. I wonder if the new staff will recruit him. -

Rabby says that Josh Harris wants to come to IU but interpreting one of his typically vague posts, it sounds like IU might be waiting on some others before taking him. "Several things still to play out." A bit undersized for a center unless he's very athletic, which I haven't seen that he is. Can possibly play that position in a pinch, but it's not ideal. Not a done deal. Others have jumped in to the recruitment. -

So it looks like Rabby thinks IU will add 2 more and save the final scholly for Goode. 1 of the 2 will likely be a big then the other maybe the guy from Greece (best available) or a freshman. Josh Harris has some decent stats and 3 years of eligibility. I wouldn't be upset at landing him, though I was hoping for another 4/5 guy and he doesn't look big enough for that.
