They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread

Woodson and co. recruited him so they recognize the talent. They just can't develop the talent or get all the talent to play well as a team. -

Zalan Sarknay wins gold in the 800m at the SC World Championship for Hungary. He was able to do it in front of a home crowd which is awesome for him. -

Ever? You must be new here. NGW comes to mind as someone even worse and there have been a few others. -

Rivals put their portal tracker behind a pay wall. Here is another from TDH: https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-football-transfer-portal-tracker-following-the-2024-regular-season/ This one mentions Duce Robinson, USC WR that I haven't seen on other lists: https://clutchpoints.com/indianafootball-news-5-top-targets-in-transfer-portal -

I thought he was better than Miller since he actually made the NCAA twice. Now I'm starting to change my mind that Woodson exceeds even that very, very low bar. Those two seasons were with Miller players, TJD in particular. Of course, the Woodson apologists say that TJD was out the door so Woodson gets credit keeping him. Miller brought him to IU and coached him for 2 years. He's a Miller player. Both are such bad coaches that it's really hard to tell now which is worse. -

Maybe Woodson's goal is to make everyone notice the other sports more. Other sports still going on which IU is good at: Football Women's basketball (not as good as the last few years but better than this **** show) Both swim teams -

I wanted Dolson fired last spring. Cignetti's success has changed my mind. For now. -
Just found the voting record. Yes, Tevin Coleman in 2014. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/awards/heisman-2014.html

Randle El? Have we had anyone since him?

Because he is a bad coach who is also a bad evaluator of talent. -

IIRC that is where he almost went last time he entered the portal so I can't say I'm surprised. What's the scary situation? That he's going to Michigan or something else? -
I wonder what kind of bonus (if any) assistant coaches get for winning awards like this. Anyways, congratulations to him. Well deserved.

Wow, the whining from the fans over something so inconsequential.

So what is a lame duck BoT Chair going to do? Get an AD fired for trying to do his job when he himself has only a few months left? Are you really being serious here? I would also point out that Dolson has more clout now than he 6 months ago. Unless something changes and the basketball team actually gels and plays at the level they're capable of, Woodson will have underperformed yet again and fan enthusiasm and attendance will be down. Compare this to Dolson's football hire and his effect on the football program. Woodson is gone after the season unless Dolson wants to keep him. QB won't have the power to prevent it. The question is whether Dolson is behind him or not. I think the lack of a statement of support after last season shows that it really is QB and not Dolson behind Woodson getting this year. -

QB is out middle of next year. So only a few months after the end of the season. No way a lame duck has the power to force Dolson to keep Woodson. -

Who'd think that I'd ever look at that list of schools and think IU would be the best choice for a football player? Cig is going after some good players. He looks like one. -

https://indiana.rivals.com/news/indiana-football-2024-transfer-portal-tracker Just added: Alex Wollschlaeger, Offensive Lineman - Bowling Green: Wollschlaeger is an experienced, three year starter at Bowling Green along the Falcons' offensive front. Throughout his time at Bowling Green, Wollschlaeger started pretty much exclusively at right tackle. This past season, he was a first team All-MAC selection, just a year after being named third team All-MAC. Wollschlaeger has one year of eligibility remaining. Per source, Wollschlaeger is expected to visit Indiana on Friday, Dec. 13. 247 has him as a 4* transfer and #2 OL (33 overall) in the portal -

I'm not sure where to put this but this seems like the best place. I just don't see this happening. Doesn't have much experience and only 55% completion rate in the experience he does have. https://www.si.com/college/ohiostate/news/ohio-state-buckeyes-devin-brown-transfer-indiana-hoosiers -

Woodson is turning IU basketball into what IU football has traditionally been for me: A team I follow and want to win but I care deeply about so the outcomes don't really matter much either way. Not much excitement after a win, just a shrug after a loss. Cignetti is turning IU football into what IU basketball used to be for me. -

He has an agent so this might be more like a free agent recruitment than a HS kid recruitment? I like our chances if Woodson's only involvement is offering money. He can do that but more effort is too much for him. That said, I don't really care very much either way if we land him at this point. -

I understand that. But a freshman QB with no chance to play after the QB coach already accepted a new job? Sure, he may enter the portal but what advantage does he get by not entering now? None that I can see. Already we have the players who didn't have large roles in the portal. Makes sense. After the season ends, there might be a few others who actually play enter. I hope not but it happens and it makes sense why they're not in it now. Someone who doesn't and won't play? Why wait? I guess we'll see but I'm thinking (ok, hoping) all of those are already in the portal. -
I'm all for players getting paid but there does have to be some structure. This is blatant tampering. I know it's been going on for a long time but this gives the appearance that they don't even care about hiding it anymore.

The current administration that hired Cignetti after spending $20M to fire Allen and, when it became clear he was a winner, gave him a big raise to keep while also increasing the assistant coaching salary pool to almost that of OSU and making a commitment to NIL? That administration? Yeah, they obviously don't care about the money sports. -
