If he signs an extension during the season with the IU position open, then he never really had much interest in the IU job. In this case, I would say that keeping Woodson another year probably didn't cost us May.
-
He'd actually be somewhat successful. I'm surprised you're not saying it'll be Brownell. That'd be more of your doom and gloom style.
-
Preferably a successful one in his time there. Any experience is important but seeing success and what it takes to achieve it at the high major level would be great. I pretty much agree with your list. I'll add a few: - has had recruiting success against his peers - post season success of some sort - teams have an identity - coaches a modern style - always learning and adapting - willing to listen to advice from assistants - somewhat balanced offense/defense - has shown success at player development

Wouldn't be lazy and could work 247. Incredible ability to multitask. A master of analytics.
-
And when we have, it's double digit loses to single digit seeds instead of single digit loses to double digit seeds.
-
I disagree. It's comforting knowing that Woodson won't be given another year
-
I didn't see the IUFB post but on one of the next pages I did see Rabjohn's refute Fife's guess that NIL will go down without Woodson. He said that the Cook's will likely keep up the contributions.
-
I've been lead to believe that IU won't be able to land a top notch coach like him. Plus, would he really leave after just 1 year?
-
It's alright. We don't actually need him to know what he'd say to anything, it's well known how he feels about things. If it's not 1990 (or earlier) basketball it's inferior and he doesn't like it. Analytics are bad and are ruining college basketball. NIL and the transfer portal are bad. The B1G should still have only 10 teams and no conference tournament.

We're not trying to upgrade from Crean at the moment. We're trying to upgrade from Woodson. I'd take someone a bit better and more consistent than Crean now. I'd prefer a home run hire but Cronin would be solid.

It's Illinois.... It's Illinois

People despise Sampson for what he did at IU and how that impacted IU. Refuse to extend grace to any coach with any known past transgressions? I guess you haven't seen all the posts that would be happy to have Pearl or Few to name 2 with past transgressions that people would be willing to forgive. DV is a whole other thing. Couple that with drinking and he's a time bomb. Worth the risk for someone who has won only 54% of P4 conference games in his career and has been unable to come close to replicating the success he had 6 and 7 years ago? IU will not hire Coach Facial Hair.
-
I don't know about all of you, but I hope that whomever IU ends up hiring has a head. A headless coach probably wouldn't do too well.
-
Hiring Brad Brownell would be the equivalent of shooting yourself in the face with a BB gun. Painful and not very smart.
-
Hiring Brownell wouldn't be kind of sad, it would be very sad. He's having a good year in a crappy ACC. At Clemson, he's only 59% overall and 52% in conference. This is the exact type of hire IU avoids, it would be pathetic but also par for the course. If that does end up being the case, it'll show that Buckner and company may have pushed for Woodson but Dolson was also likely very much on board that train. I guess since Stevens is out of the picture IU is going to IU. Maybe the next AD would get the basketball hire right in 4 years.

A whole lot more people would support almost any other coach than would support Beard. Beard would fracture the fanbase the way others wouldn't. Lots of people would be unhappy with some of the other names on the list but not to the same extent that they would be with Beard. I agree...Beard would win and win big. Based on what? He's won only about 54% of his P4 conference games. That's winning big? If he didn't have a connection to Knight, people wouldn't be so high on him. Beard isn't going to happen.
-
I just hope IU doesn't go cheap after Stevens said no. Dolson reportedly had $9M+/year lined up to throw at Stevens. Some of that may have been promised only for Stevens but I hope there was plenty that would be available for another quality coach. My fear is that we end up with a risky coach that is hired for $3-4M/year. I want them to spend $6-7M to get someone that is a known winner at the P5 level.

Everyone is now trying to figure out if it was a concussion grenade or a frag grenade. Goodman is claiming it's a frag grenade without showing evidence of that and the rest of the media are running with that.
-
He grew up in Texas, went to college in Texas, and his entire coaching career except 1 year has been in Texas. That 1 year, he went all the way to Arkansas. That said, he's very high on my list and I hope Dolson tries to get him away from Texas. The guy is a winner. He's also making only $2.9M/year. IU can offer significantly more than that.
-
Probably because Woodson was actually fired and everyone knows it? The IU press release that Woodson decided to retire didn't fool many.
-
Sometimes 1+1=10. It's about perspective, so what's wrong if some people view Stevens as a possibility? How does that affect you?

Money laundering? Do you even know what that is because that makes no sense? -
