Yep, the more hires we see the more obvious it becomes that IU really just got lucky on a few hires. Just look to how inept the football team has historically been as evidence of this in addition to other basketball coaches you mentioned.

Stopped reading before the bolded part below? That season they were almost dead last in how often they took 3-point shots. They were 352nd in attempts per game. That squanders the good shooting as shown by being only 334th in makes despite being 48th in percentage.

I'll believe it when I see it. We're heard every year during the summer and early season workouts how certain players are shooting so well and how much better the team will be from 3 that year. Then the offseason snipers can't make shots in games and/or the team just doesn't shoot many 3 point shots. Usually both.

IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving

Swimswam has the incoming women's class ranked 12th. https://swimswam.com/ranking-the-2024-womens-ncaa-recruiting-classes-9-12/ -
How do NFL teams handle the moving of their equipment for cross country games? Cargo planes? I expect college teams will adopt similar methods.

Good thing you're here to tell us the obvious. It's hilarious you get offended by threads that are negative towards Woodson as well as those which are positive.

More than last year for sure. I don't think it'll be as many as it should be, considering how his team's have underperformed. They should have been better than they were TJD's senior season. I'm also taking a wait and see approach without having confidence that he'll magically turn into a good coach.

(2025) QB - Julian Lewis to Colorado (for now)
go iu bb replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
Football recruiting is crazy. They're not committed until they sign and even then might change their mind. -
He also hasn't spent his whole career at the lower levels and therefore might not know how to evaluate P4 talent. He was also an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Alabama under Nick Saban who (checks notes) aren't bad at winning.

Dallas James(C) to INDIANA

Why instead? There was literally 1 more scholarship that could have gone to a guard. -

Yes. Even though it was the last scholarship, since the guard depth was so weak they probably could've gotten a decent player who could've helped. That "last" scholarship doesn't always have to go to a bench warmer. -
Confirming what everyone already knew: players were getting paid even before NIL. https://hoopshype.com/2024/07/30/gilbert-arenas-says-he-took-a-paycut-going-from-arizona-to-the-nba/

This guy isn't one of those. Again, no down side to this. -

The more roster spots you don't use, the more susceptible you are to ending up with a bad roster due to injuries or even playing to expectation. It's not just in games where not having enough bodies can hurt, it can be in practice and game prep as well. I don't understand why you're so adamant that not all scholarships should be used. Just because some other teams do the same thing? We tried it last year and many (all?) years under Miller. None of those resulted in a national championship so maybe, just maybe, there are other factors involved than not using all scholarships. -
We'll see. He's a good coach so that is certainly possible but he isn't infallible. The year after they went to the E8 they were 10th in the B1G and would've missed the tournament if there had been one. Since then they've been on a nice run so they have a culture of winning so they might be good enough for top 3. They also might not. I don't expect bottom 1/2 but I also don't expect them to really be close to winning the regular season. Good or bad, they'll probably make the IU games tough.
-
He picks Purdue to win it. They probably won't suck but they won't be great without Edey. They'll miss him a lot.
-
I wonder if he at least takes being on the basketball team seriously unlike Priller.

We hear that every year we've left an open scholarship and it hasn't happened yet. Really good players don't tend to enter the portal at that time. If they do, there are probably other issues that might make them less desirable. That is also outside the portal entry window so they'd have to sit out a whole season which I guess would make them not eligible until the middle of the next season which is also less than desirable. So that is a terrible reason to not use a scholarship.

Better to have someone that could step in and not need him than to need someone and have an open scholarship. Center depth is a question mark and this would address that even if it's not highly skilled depth. He'd be another big to practice against. Those are the basketball positives. He'd also bring up the team's GPA. From what I saw, his two main foci are academics and basketball without much partying. So he'd be a good example/role model/influence for the younger players without drama or other locker room distractions. Seems like he would be a solid culture piece. This is also someone who is clearly comfortable being a bench player, so no conflict there. Of course, this is all just speculation at this point but I disagree that it would be "just filling the 13th scholarship" since he would bring some positives and no downside. Besides, it's not your money so why would you care how that scholarship is filled? I thought you were Team Woodson now so if this is what he wants it must be the right move.
-
I'm not sold but it's not something I need to worry about as I don't see him ever coaching at IU. For now we're stuck with Woodson and after him it'll likely be yet another underwhelming hire.

(2025) - PG/SG Kiyan Anthony to Syracuse
go iu bb replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
From something I read recently, it seemed like IU cooled on him. He said something to the effect that he wasn't hearing much from them. Edit: here it is. This was in another thread and was written 1 week ago. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-recruiting-moreno-schedules-more-visits-three-guards-trending-unfavorably/ "Finally, Kiyan Anthony, son of Carmelo, indicated IU has not been heavily involved in his recruitment of late. He said the following to Joe Tipton of On3: “They’re still recruiting me, but not as hard as they were. I feel like Coach Woody is just trying to figure it out. But they’re still on my list so I’m just waiting on them to reach out and whatnot.” -
Wasn't there a similar rumor about Adam Howard after the season? Did that rumor maybe confuse Walsh and Howard? Or am I confused and remembering incorrectly?
-
Compelling arguments.
-
You may not, but plenty of people do. Like I've said before, it's not that everything was great then a bunch of people turned on Woodson after 1 bad season. It's that a bunch of people weren't convinced he's a good coach based on his first 2 seasons. Then last season happened giving even more evidence to support that.
-
He can't really defend any of the bad coaching Woodson did in years 1 & 2 so he ignores those. He'll only respond to posts about last year because he can just blame that on a bad roster. His only "criticism" of Woodson is being too loyal to the guards he already had or something like that. So if the post doesn't allow that, he won't respond. So the blame for roster building falls on Woodson but most of the blame for last season falls on the players, the guards in particular. That seems to be his stance.
