But 4 years...oh, right, that's just IU. He definitely was on a downward trend and did nothing to deserve being retained.

Sounds like CD needs to bring in a heavy hitter recruiter.

    Jerome Hunter

He won the offseason one year at IU. He was the sniper who couldn't miss in workouts. Never really translated to the real games as has been typical of IU for the last decade or so. I remember @HoosierHoopster always being big on him. Glad he's playing well. I hope he has multiple degrees for when his playing days are done.

Does CD want him though? Rabby is saying he's gone. Implies that CD might not have wanted him.
  5. DVD for DeVries, Darian I'm lazy so I'll probably just call him CD Besides, CDs were still the thing when IU was last consistently good and DVDs weren't around yet.
  6. I really hope we can land that Tucker DeVries kid from the portal. I think we have a chance.

Matt Painter has already collected a loss to a 13th seed. I think he needs a 14th seed to complete the set. The only way that happens this year is the E8 or later. Bummer. Maybe he'll get it next year, I'm really pulling for him to get the whole set.

Yes, he played only 9 games early in the season before an injury so he should definitely be able to get another year.
  9. It's interesting how the national narrative about the IU job changes when IU hires a sitting P5 coach. Before that happened, IU was delusional thinking they'd get anything other than a mid-major coach. Now it's IU is a higher tier job than WV so of course he took the job.
  10. Darian Dale DeVries
  11. Try to contain your surprise at this next news: Rabby is saying that Zrno's agent told them that Zrno will not end up at IU.

  13. Yep, a collection of players is what we saw with Woodson. Same with Davis. Crean had several years like that. Miller was just so bad in so many ways that it was hard to tell but his teams never seemed to play as a team, either. Sampson's teams were cohesive units that played well as teams on the court. Off the court they were a disaster. Basically, it's what IU has been missing since the mid-90s other than a few years here and there. It'll be nice to have a coach which tries to gauge that as part of the recruiting evaluation process.
  14. I was worried when it became clear early on that Stevens wasn't an option that IU would cheap out and not be willing to spend money on anyone else. This proved my fear worry was misplaced. Salary and buyout are going to be high if you hire a sitting P5 coach, which he was. $6+M for the buyout ~$5M salary Committing $7M for NIL Committing well above average revenue sharing Already in the top few for basketball operational spending We saw that even a bad coach like Woodson almost made the tournament with enough money thrown his way. He had an NIL budget that was 167% that of the NIL budget DeVries had. While they both ended up missing the tournament with similar records, the circumstances were quite different and WVU should have made it in. It'll be interesting to see what DeVries can do with IU's resources. I'm looking forward to next season.
  15. I like the hire but I'm not blown away. I think it's a solid hire with lots of upside. Right now I'd probably give it a B. His record at Drake and his one year at WVU give reasons for optimism. His WVU record wasn't that great but he did deal with big injuries and won 10 more games than they won the previous year. I think there is still growth and learning on his part before he becomes a great coach. He seems to have the defense down based on last year but needs to be able to do that constantly. Offensive efficiency needs to improve. Maybe the resources at IU will help him get the recruits he needs for that to happen. Maybe he needs to bring in an assistant to help. Maybe it's just a learning process. He's looks better than Woodson and Miller. How much better remains to be seen but I'm optimistic.

(2022) PF Malik Reneau to INDIANA

He won't be missed by me.
  17. Speaking of clowns, wasn't it you who started posting like you had inside information then turned around and admitted you didn't have inside info when people started calling you out only to then start trying to act like an insider again?
  18. 5th choice? 10th choice? Maybe, we don't know. If we landed someone that far down the list and he was still a sitting P5 coach, like DeVries was, maybe we're not as bad off as some people (like you) seem to think. Maybe he'll bomb. Maybe he'll be just okay. Maybe he'll end up being great. No one knows yet. I'm satisfied (and optimistic) but not super ecstatic with the hire and plan to actually give him some time to show us what he can do.
  19. That was $17M in basketball spending, not NIL. Recruiting costs, salaries, etc. NIL isn't university money so that probably wasn't factored in.
  20. Coal miners wouldn't leave for a better opportunity? I've never heard of a coal miner who loves their job. People in WV wouldn't leave for millions more? The whole thing comes off as extremely butthurt BS.
  21. You sure handle rejection well. If it makes you feel any better, Stevens will probably never coach college ball again.
  22. I'm hoping (but not expecting) that IU goes the coordinator route. An assistant coach that specializes in defense, another that specializes in offense, and one that is great at skill development. A GM to be the recruiting expert.
  23. I guess it depends on how much of their revenue share other schools are committing to men's basketball. IU's NIL was already very high. Revenue sharing is capped at $20.5M with a large chunk going to football and some of it needs to go to women's sports. I agree that about $2M of revenue share seems low, but we'll need to see how much it ends up being and how that compares to other schools. That said, I think that $7M would already have them up there just like they were with NIL. Edit: Old Farts post make sense that it's $7 in just NIL then more after rev share. I read it the same way you did.
