He just signed an extension 1 month ago so I doubt it. -
IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving
go iu bb replied to LIHoosier's topic in Other Indiana Hoosiers Athletics
Capobianco is in the 1m Finals (5th seed) and Franzman advances to the Consulation Final (12th overall seed) of the 50 free. https://iuhoosiers.com/news/2021/3/25/mens-swimming-and-diving-no-9-indiana-adds-two-individuals-to-evening-finals.aspx -
IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving

I can't take credit for it, swimswam is a good source for info and they do a really good job of covering the sport. BTW, I compared the predicted scores from the most recent link to an earlier. It doesn't take in to account diving. So swimming points only and IU has a really good chance at 6th place. IU should score points in diving from Capobianco. I think OSU has some pretty good divers too. I'm not sure about Texas A&M or Michigan. -

IU beat its seed time by 1.44 seconds and its seed by score by 6 points (2 spots from 11th to 9th). Right now it looks like they have a good shot at finishing 6th. Their main competition for that position are Texas A&M, Michigan, and OSU who lost 2, 12, and 8 points from their seeds, respectively. So a good start for IU. I think these predicted final scores do not factor in diving so IU could move up or down depending on that. https://swimswam.com/projected-vs-actual-day-1-score-update-at-2021-ncaa-d1-mens-championships/ -
Coaching Candidate Thread: Calbert Cheaney

It sounds like you're close to him. Have you ever had discussions in the past about him becoming a D1 HC? Not necessarily at IU, just in general. -
That was my thought too.
-
I haven't seen him state that he's not interested anywhere.

Open vs not would only really influence a small sample size, but I don't think your sample size was small. Since it wasn't a small sample size that is taken into account as there would be plenty of perfect shots taken, plenty of terrible shots, and everything in between. Basically, you're seeing what you see in the real world and not just hypothetical stats. And if you think about it, it makes sense. The farther from the basket you get, the lower the shooting percentage will be, regardless of being open or not. So as you move away from the basket the efficiency of the shot drops until you hit the 3 point line and then it jumps back up again.

Based on seed times, IU is projected to finish 8th. They're in a tight group of 4 teams separated by less than 10 points on the psych sheets so they could easily finish as high as 6th (5th looks out of reach) or as low as 9th. Lower than 9th is unlikely unless they really bomb, which I don't expect. https://swimswam.com/scoring-out-the-psych-sheet-for-the-2021-ncaa-mens-swimming-championships/ https://swimswam.com/2020-2021-ncaa-mens-swimming-diving-power-ranks-final-edition/ -
I haven't seen anyone mention Jimmy Allen. Hiring the Army coach has worked for IU in the past as well as Duke. tic

Probably the fake amateurism of college ball.

Well, Stevens hasn't publicly stated he's not interested in the IU job since last week. Maybe he's had a change of heart. -
Are we going to Address the BIG TEN Elephant in the room?

More conference games means there is more pressure to recruit players that can win games in conference. Winning games in conference means playing to the limits of what the officials will allow. That means very physical and slow paced versus other conferences. It may get worse since the 20 game schedule is relatively new. OOC games go from 13 down to 11 so performing against conference opponents is even more important. Recruits have already shown that many don't like the style of play in the B1G. It's not just IU that has had players go elsewhere because of pace, the league has had trouble recruiting large amounts of top talent for a while. 5* and high 4* players tend to go to ACC, SEC, Pac 12, etc. So the problem is twofold: the B1G teams seem to have trouble adjusting to playing other styles after so long in conference and the overall talent level in the league isn't great. Both of those can probably be blamed on how the league games are played and a lot of that can be blamed on officiating. In the late '90s through mid '00s the league had a 16 game schedule. I think it was ~10 seasons. -
My source says Jon Snow knows nothing.

I'm sure they've also had their share of negotiations in which everything seemed to be going great to only fail in the end for one reason or another.
-
What? Miller High Life is skunk piss.
-
Looks like UM will pull this one out so there will be a B1G team in the Sweet 16.
-
Truly doomed? Dealt a fatal blow? That's a bit hyperbolic. Miller needed to go anyways. Even the not perfect coaches being mentioned are an upgrade after Miller.
-
Yes, this is what I've thought. People talk about how this program doesn't have the draw that it used to so we'll have to settle for a mediocre choice. I believe that is partially true in that it's not quite as prestigious as it used to be but there is still the history. If that isn't enough of a draw, it appears the school is ready to open the checkbook for the next coach and pay big money. Unless they've decided to go cheap after missing on Stevens, that is.
-
If this disastrous showing doesn't lead them to reevaluate and make changes, I don't think anything will. Although, outside of officiating, I'm not sure what changes could be made at the conference level rather than at the individual schools. That said, officiating changes could make a large impact on style of play.

I'm curious if anyone knows the record for the number of teams a conference gets to the tournament while failing to get any into the Sweet 16? The B1G is down to 2 teams left with a chance. UM is down 7 (early) to LSU and are missing Livers so they may get knocked out. The other team left is Maryland going against Alabama. So if these 2 lose the B1G will have failed to get any of the 9 teams to the Sweet 16. That would have to be a record if it happens. I just wonder how much of one it would be.
-
The supposed best conference in the country looks pretty bad. 9 teams in the tournament, including 2 1-seeds, 2 2-seeds, and a 4 seed. Right now only 3 teams left: 10 seed Maryland who will likely lose to Alabama, Michigan with an injured started starter who didn't finish the regular season well, and Iowa whose next game is against a team that was gifted a bye in the first game. I wouldn't be surprised if no B1G teams make the Sweet 16. Maybe the conference leadership will look at this debacle and get motivated to fix the officiating during conference play. I really believe it hurts the teams in the tournament.

Amazing. Dick Vitale manages to be super annoying even in a tweet.
