I really don't understand people blaming early enrollment for Lander being unable to produce this past season. Do you really think he'd have developed more and been more productive this past year if he had spent another season in HS? I don't. At all. It's more like he is a poster child for not taking the rankings as gospel.

I see Xavier Johnson is on that list at #31. Xavier Johnson from George Mason, that is.

A good player wouldn't be scared of those players and would be confident he could beat them out for PT. Bates could end up being very good but his freshman season wasn't very good. 37% on 2P, <30% from 3, 3.9 PPG, and a PER of 6.6 (really bad). He was a 5*/high 4* but that was HS. He will hopefully make a huge improvement but that is far from guaranteed. See Lander, Khristian as an example of a 5* not working out. In other words, how can guard play be the weakest point of a mediocre team yet so good that it scares good players away? It just doesn't make any sense.

Honestly, Phinisee, Leal, Galloway, and Bates shouldn't be scary competition for any guard worth bringing in as an upgrade. Phinisee and Leal, especially. Galloway has gotten minutes but has serious flaws in his game that need to be fixed. Bates was highly ranked out of HS and could make a large jump but his numbers from his freshman year shouldn't be a concern for a good, experienced, confident guard. We hear this argument every offseason about how we can't bring in good players because they'd be scared off by the ones we have even though the ones we have are mediocre as evidenced by the fact that guard play is the team's Achilles heal.

He'd still need some training, though. A B1G ref would've called a goal tend then T'ed him up.

I believe Stewart can still transfer without sitting out. He came in with immediate eligibility but I believe that was either as a graduate transfer or he got a hardship waiver since his father had just passed away. It was also before the rule was passed so he should be able to move to another school with immediate eligibility. I don't know about Kopp, that's a good question. I assumed he used the free transfer but I don't really know. Johnson and Durr both used their free transfer.

Accept. The players already have enough experience losing during the regular season, they now need experience losing in a post season tournament.

That was my point and also who I was thinking of. Mr. Basketball is based on the HS career, not how they'll do in college or the NBA. Indiana produces a lot of talent so many years Mr. Basketball will have a great college career and have a good shot at the NBA but that is not guaranteed, as you say. My remark also wasn't a shot at Leal, I like him on the team and hope he'll develop into a consistent role player or more during his career. But his winning Mr. Basketball has nothing to do with him being a good D1 player. -

They award Mr. Basketball to players who are good in HS. That doesn't mean they'll be good in the B1G. -

I'm ready for a large turnover in the roster this off season. I hope Stewart and Kopp don't return. The coaching staff should look for transfers from successful/winning teams instead of the transfers we have now. Stewart - Pitt (8-24) and UT Martin (9-20) Johnson - Pitt (14-19, 16-17, 10-12) Durr - South Florida (24-14, 14-17, 9-13) Kopp - Northwestern (13-19, 8-23, 9-15) 1 winning season total between all the transfers. The returning IU players had all played on bad teams, obviously, with the 1 season they might have made the NCAAT if it hadn't been cancelled. I want some players that have seen winning at the college level and have at least some idea of what it takes. -

It seems like he's checked out for the season. I hope not but it seems that way to me. Maybe he just never really bought in or is having other issues. Getting in trouble multiple times during a season isn't good, especially when you're talking about an older player who should be mature enough to avoid those actions. At least earlier in the season he was hitting shots at a high percentage (when he would take them) but now he's stone cold. A player that doesn't look for his shot, doesn't hit when he actually takes one, and can't play defense shouldn't be starting. Especially when coupled with his other behavior which keeps getting him in trouble. -

So he may not be a day 1 contributor. Might see a lot of bench time until his D gets up to speed. -

You should try to win the pass lottery to home to The Wave. It's amazing. They've increased the number of passes per day given since I went so it might not be too bad now. Antelope Canyon is also worth a visit. -

That's a small mountain in north Phoenix (I'm pretty sure it's actually Glendale there) that's only a few miles from my house. Moved to AZ from IN ~13.5 years ago. It was a good time. My son had fun for most of it. We saw a few lizards which he was excited about. I was following the game when we took breaks. It looks like IU was able to keep it close for a half then fell apart in the second. Again. -

Didn't think we really had a chance at this game so I took my son hiking for the first time instead. It was a good decision.
