Sweet. If he comes back, TJD just might be IU's latest practice sniper who makes a ton of 3's but only in practice. We've been hearing for years how so-and-so is shooting great in practice so the team's shooting woes won't be as bad. Then when the season rolls around, said player doesn't take and/or make many 3's. It's great that he's practicing a skill that he really needs which would help him and any team he's playing for but I'll hold my excitement for when I see him start to do that in a game. His release does look a bit quicker in that video that I've previously seen from him, though.

The B1G has gotten a lot of love in the rankings the last few years followed by underperforming in the NCAAT. That probably has a lot to do with it it, along with a lot of talent either going pro or running out of eligibility within the conference. So I'm not surprised.

Maybe except Rob is gone it looks like he still cares. I think he'll be back but I don't read too much into him caring.

I've often wondered why IU doesn't recruit from that school better than they do. Lots of talent comes out of there. Holmes looked like a solid swimmer. Not NCAA championship level at this time but is probably good enough to score at the B1G championship, or close to it.

If that ends up being his role, great. I have a feeling he'll continue to start get a lot of PT.

The NCAA and the schools have insisted forever that the athletes are not employees. If they want to regain some control they'd probably have to change that stance. I'd be surprised if that happens any time soon, if ever.

I hope you're right and he looks much better next season.

Bring him in as a preferred walk-on. It won't happen but that's the only way of want him on the team.

IU's recent 5* recruits have been pretty hit or miss. Romeo was good. TJD (I think he was actually a high 4* I'll include him here) is good and started his Freshman year. Lander was a major miss and didn't really contribute in 2 years. Bates wasn't terrible but also wasn't great. Certainly not close to the immediate starter many thoughts he'd be. Keion Brooks (Miller missed but he tried very hard to land him) has been mediocre at UK and not the one and done many though he'd be. Kaufman was another high 4* that was recruited hard but missed on who didn't have the immediate impact that was expected. So it remains to be seen about JHS and Reneau. There are reasons to have high expectations for them, though. They're both strong and have college ready bodies. They played against great competition in HS and performed well. They're winners and seen to have great mindsets about working hard and earning their playing time.

So if he's not raw is he just pretty bad? Raw is just code for "not very good right now," after all. If he's bad enough that he gets labeled as raw even though his fundamentals are good? Probably not a good sign.

Sour grapes because he didn't realize his earning potential so he agreed to what, in hindsight, turned out to be a bad deal. Feels he left money on the table. Welcome to the reality of negotiations, kid. He's learning an important lesson.

Because not all scholarships are based on hardship. Merit based scholarships, like athletic scholarships, are not based on need but on the skills of the individual regardless of their income or their parents wealth. The rationale is that they've earned that scholarship through years of hard work to become a good enough player to receive a scholarship from a D1 school and a P5 school at that in IU's case. The scholarship is one of the incentives for choosing that school over others. It tells the players that the school values them.

It amazes me how much some people who are obviously fans of college sports (otherwise, why would they be on this message board?) are so totally opposed to the players getting both scholarships and being able to get paid for NIL. Why not just be happy for the kids? They've spent a lot of time and put in a lot of work honing their skills enough to play at this level. College sports haven't been "amateur" for a long, long time. If they ever truly were. That went out the window as soon as schools started recruiting ringers instead of just having students try out for a team. Did that ever actually happen?

Should students on academic scholarships pay back those scholarships of they have income outside of that? If your answer is "no", then why should those on athletic scholarships?

I wonder if seeing the deals IU guys are getting compared to what they're getting (or not getting) will cause some of the Purdue players to have buyer's remorse for choosing PU over IU. I hope so.

From what I remember from last year is that they also have a retention bonus. I think $25k.

Do you know that he's saying that to the coaching staff and they are begging him to stay? Or is it all just message board fodder? Last year he did put his name into the portal along with 1/2 the team since his coach was fired and at that time his family wanted him closer to home. It's probable that they still want that but is it known that JG is thinking of leaving? He hasn't entered the portal this season.

He comes off as a great pickup not only for his skill/talent but because of his attitude. He seems like a very important piece for improving the culture.

I don't think there is a rule against that. However, a player that is good enough to receive a scholarship to play basketball at IU is good enough to get a scholarship elsewhere, even if it's just at a school like State Fair Community College. That, combined with the probable and understandable perceived slight of having the scholarship taken away, means that it is unlikely a player would stay on a team if asked to become a walk-on after being a scholarship player.

I pronounce it the same way as you do which means you're probably right.
