The players will still be enrolled at IU and not another school until the end of the semester. So even if they commit to another school I think they can still back out. It's not as though they sign another NLI. So that gives IU some time.

Here's the day 4 results. IU finished 6th overall. 200 fly: Burns 7th, Frankel 10th (PR) 200 back: Steele 15th, Fantoni 16th 1650: Brinegar 10th 400 free relay: 10th Platform diving: Capobianco 10th Disappointing finish to get edged out for 5th in the end but a great meet. Albiero for UL pulling out the win in the 200 fly really hurt. It'll come down to the relay. It'll be a very close finish for 5th place. UL is seeded 3rd and IU 7th. If they keep their seeds, IU beats UL by 2. It'll be an intense race.

Buyouts for college coaches are very common so the chances of having to pay one for the incoming coach is very high. About the only way he wouldn't expect to pay one is if they hired someone out of work or an assistant. I'm not sure if NBA coaches have buyouts to terminate their contract early but it wouldn't surprise me if they do.

Day 3 went about as expected point-wise for IU as they gained 1.5 points over their seeds. De Sousa was a top 40 recruit, not in the 80s. So he was almost a 5*. Similar ranking to TJD and Kaufman. Is it him you're thinking of or someone else? To your point, yes, cheating happens even for players who aren't 5*. It is inevitable considering how much money is involved in college sports. Coaches are willing to cheat to keep their multimillion dollar salaries.

I also believe that they've heard things. The people telling them these things probably believe what they're saying. What I've seen during recruiting is that the sources tend to be very optimistic. It becomes a game of telephone of passing information from one optimistic person to another to another. It goes from "we made a great pitch and have a great chance" to the last person saying "it's a lock and we have a silent verbal." Then he announces for Purdue. I think we're seeing some of the same here. I greatly appreciate everyone who knows anyone close to or inside the athletic department passing on the information they hear. I just take it with a huge grain of salt and don't think anything is a done deal until one of the parties makes it public themselves.

I think it's because they want an "IU guy" who isn't Alford but also realize none of them have the resume right now to get excited about hiring them. That or they want Beilein butt realize he's old and don't want another search in a few years.

That is my top 3, maybe even in that order although I think I prefer Oats to Drew at this point. Very close between those two. I've warmed up to the idea of Musselman.

I don't know if the Oats buyout is a big deal or not. There is a large donor committed to paying "transition costs" which seems to me might include buyout costs of the new coach. If it's not that, then what would be the large costs of transitioning that would require a donor? Dolson didn't say salary costs so it doesn't sound like this donor is helping pay the next coach above the level IU is willing to pay. So it seems like it would be a buyout that the donor is willing to pay.

IU didn't do as well as seeded tonight. Luckily, so neither did most of the other teams to be concerned with, although NC State had a huge day and moved into a position to be a threat to overtake IU. 400 medley relay finished 5th in 3:02.38. 200 free relay took 9th in 1:16.60. There were also no seniors on either relay as @BeerBQ pointed out for the 800 free relay. I can't take credit for it, swimswam is a good source for info and they do a really good job of covering the sport. BTW, I compared the predicted scores from the most recent link to an earlier. It doesn't take in to account diving. So swimming points only and IU has a really good chance at 6th place. IU should score points in diving from Capobianco. I think OSU has some pretty good divers too. I'm not sure about Texas A&M or Michigan.

IU beat its seed time by 1.44 seconds and its seed by score by 6 points (2 spots from 11th to 9th). Right now it looks like they have a good shot at finishing 6th. Their main competition for that position are Texas A&M, Michigan, and OSU who lost 2, 12, and 8 points from their seeds, respectively. So a good start for IU. It sounds like you're close to him. Have you ever had discussions in the past about him becoming a D1 HC? Not necessarily at IU, just in general.

That was my thought too.

I haven't seen him state that he's not interested anywhere.
