Archie Miller recruiting in a nutshell.
-
If he had announced that he was staying, it would be all over the place by now. The IU media would've picked it up and spread the news.

(2024) PF - Derik Queen to Maryland

That's a very spread out conference. -
I'm shocked! (that it took even this long. I though it would happen on Monday.)
-
A shooting guard who can't shoot and had a Miller offer. Yep, checks out.

You're right, there are no guarantees of health and playing level. However, XJ was out with a broken foot. We're not talking a blown knee or a torn Achilles or anything like that. It was a broken foot. By the time next season rolls around, he'll have had close to a year to recover. In fact, he was close to being back at the end of this season. If he doesn't play well next season, I don't think it'll have anything to do with his injury this year since there is no reason to think he wouldn't get back to 100% after a broken bone.

You think you do but you don't actually look at things with an unbiased view. Reading your posts for a while now, it appears you view everything IU through a pessimistic lens and everything concerning other schools through a more optimistic lens. -
If Xavier had participated in the B1G tournament, it would've disqualified him from a medical waiver regardless of number of games played. Another criterium is that all the games played in must be in the early part of the season. IIRC, it is the first 1/2 of the season.

A coaching change should allow for immediate eligibility imo. Probably a scholarship change (loses scholarship) as well. If I'm reading that right, if an athlete transfers to a school then that school ends their program (like Saint Francis), they'd have to sit a year when transferring to a new school. NCAA still has to find ways to be a$$h0l3s, I guess.

Coaching Changes Nationally

He did a good job at PSU but it's not as though he was dominant there. 37-31 overall, 17-23 in the B1G, 1-1 in the NCAA tournament. A top finish of 9th in conference. Good numbers for PSU but not exactly awe inspiring. -
IU Mens/Womens Swimming and Diving

Men off to a good start at the championship meet with by finishing 5th in the 200 medley relay and 4th in the the 800 free relay. In 5th place after day 1 with 60 points. https://swimswam.com/2023-division-i-mens-ncaa-championships-day-1-finals-live-recap/ The medley relay had some insane breast splits with the top 5 splits of all time happening this year. One of those fast splits was IU's Van Mathias going 22.53 for 4th all time. https://swimswam.com/2023-m-ncaas-leon-marchand-swims-22-27-50-breast-1-split-all-time/ IU is expected to score big in diving this year. https://swimswam.com/ncaa-mens-diving-preview-how-zones-scores-project-to-impact-the-team-race/ 1. They can still stay if the coach allows them to. The coaches aren't obligated to take a player who entered the portal back if the player changes their mind. I imagine that the number of players who stay after entering the portal is a small percentage.

This reminds me of how glad I am that Ethan Morton chose Purdue over IU. -
Right. There's a lot of difference there but I was just pointing out that it isn't a sure thing like it would be if he had played in 2 fewer games. The NCAA can, and does, deny waivers. And just like with everything else the NCAA does, they do it inconsistently.
-
Since Johnson is over the 30% of games played threshold this season, it's not guaranteed he'll be granted a waiver. He ended up playing in 11 of 35 games (I don't know if all of the postseason games count or not) which is 31.6%. Regular season only it's 11 of 31 (35.4%) or if the 1st game of the B1G tournament counted since they are guaranteed to play at least one there, then 11 of 32 for 34.3%. This lady just got denied. She did play 2 more games and her team played 3 less games (32) so it's not exactly the same but it does show that the NCAA doesn't rubber stamp this waiver. https://cyclonefanatic.com/2023/03/ncaa-denies-stephanie-soares-waiver-to-return-for-extra-year/ Hopefully, we hear soon one way or another of their decision. IU probably filed as soon as they could, which was after Selection Sunday.

A PER under 11 isn't very good. That's like Rob Phinisee level of efficiency.

How about the long version? -
Arkansas seems to contact every player that enters the portal. Them and Nebraska. I think they have someone whose job is to just contact portal players as soon as their names show up.

Twitter poll. The Naismith fan vote doesn't show them. On that note, I checked again and TJD now has ~3% point lead at 31.7% to Wilson's 28.8%. Edey dropped to under 28%. It would be great if the actual votes are close to the twitter ones.
-
I just voted and TJD is catching up a bit. TJD 28.5%. Edey 28.9%, and Wilson 29.7%.

Unless you're Purdue. -
The women lost to Miami too. I'm more disappointed in that outcome than the men's. They had a great season.
