I haven't seen him play but looking at his stats it appears he's pretty good defensively. 2.3 bpg, 1.3 spg, and 9.8 rpg. He does foul a lot at 3.5 per game.

Slight correction: they haven't always been able transfer without penalty in other sports. However, the transfer rules which are new to basketball and football were implemented in those other sports a few years before the major sports. So they've had the current transfer rules for longer but it definitely wasn't always like that. I'm not sure how much longer they've had those rules but I think it's less than 5 years.
