They said that the coach's teams would have an identity. Nothing about that identity being "uniquely Indiana basketball."
-
I thought that was just at UL? Or are other schools bringing in prostitutes?
-
Blink twice if Hornsby is there forcing you to post this and you need help.
-

Possibly. I don't recognize his name but he was senior at FSU in '12 and they won the ACC tourney that year so you're probably right. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luke_Loucks

FSU hired a 34 year old former player with only NBA assistant coaching experience? Home run.

It's a locked thread. Unless you're referring to the Fire Brad Stevens thread.

My point is instead of picking up the phone and telling the reporter he can go public with the information now, he could just as easily pick up the phone and tell them it'll be ______, you can make that public. They still get to be first without the risk of giving them the info in advance.
-
Feel free to start one. Why do people keep asking why he doesn't have his own thread then not start it themselves?
-
Why would Dolson tell a reporter then tell them to keep it quiet? That just doesn't make sense. Instead of telling the reporter who it is, he could tell them that he'll let them know first so they can be the one to break it. Much less risk of it accidentally being shared that way.

It's raining outside.

And that is part of the reason why he's considered in such high regard as a coach. People that jump to the next level (or more, as in this case) and succeed happen but they're a minority. McCollum very well could succeed at IU. He also very well could fail. It's a gamble.

You can do it however you want, of course. It's just that usually people just put the end results since then it's clear how many tournament runs are actually being talked about. The earlier wins are implied since of course they had to win that to reach farther. Just like how you didn't list 2 S16 but seeing E8 and FF you know that 2 S16 were reached and won. My point is that 2 S16, 2 E8, 1 FF sounds like 5 different tournaments when it's actually just 2. Clarity is a good thing. Your last sentence would have been clear.
-
You're doubling counting the E8 on the way to the FF. The way you say it makes it seem like he's had 3 runs in the tournament instead of 2.

If he wants the job so bad, why start him out at that much? IU should be able to get him on the cheap. $2M. Make him prove himself both on and off the court before giving him a raise. I agree, it's not going to happen.

There was an article that was shared here from over a year ago which was talking about Danny Hurley's recruiting philosophy. He basically said he recruits players for their offense since offensive is what wins championships.

Under .600 in P4 conferences for his career? Facial Hair is so overrated based on the 2 seasons at TT he's been unable to come close to replicating. He sure knows how to pad his season win percentages in the nonconference, though. I don't believe IU will hire him.

Chris Beard is no Rick Pitino when it comes to winning.

I'd be out too. I don't know if I'd even come back when he ends up getting fired. The fact that he was hired in the first place would make that very difficult. Easier than every to move on, though, after the last 8 years. I really have a hard time believing IU would actually hire him. Even if the administration was about to overlook his past, he'd be a very divisive hire that would drive a lot of fans away.
-
What a shame. If he stays at UM I hope he fails since I root against every other B1G team.
-
I've always thought they (HH and Rabby) were full of **** and nothing they said made me really fell like they know anything, including the Facial Hair bomb at the end. They even said at the beginning they're not hearing anything except through multiple people removed from Dolson's circle. In the off chance they're right and he actually gets hired? Well, the last 8 years has made it easier than ever in my life to completely give up on IU basketball.

I joined for the included Paramount plus with Showtime for $9.95/month instead of just Paramount plus with Showtime for $12.99/month. Save $3/month and get to see Rabby show he doesn't have the inside scoop as a bonus. It's a win for me.

I don't know. It was mentioned here but that is why I made sure to call it a rumor instead of something that actually happened. I also added "if true" in the next statement about it. You do make a good point about "looked into" vs "wanted to hire". Again, I'm not sure.

I'm trying to give Dolson the benefit of the doubt after the Cignetti hire but I can understand people looking at his history and seeing possible red flags. I'm hoping for the best but also wouldn't be at all surprised by a dud hire. There is only 1 name mentioned that I would be shocked to find out is IU's next coach and it's not the guys like Brownell or Collins who are pretty meh. He was the AD when Woodson was hired and also gave him the raise. That's true. It looks like his hand was forced and I hope that's true because, if not, then I'd give up hope on this search. It was rumored he wanted to hire Pat Fitzgerald but got turned down by Whitten. That wouldn't have been an inspiring hire, so if this is true that would be a red flag. We ended up with Cignetti which looks great for Dolson and the search firm, which is the same as used for this hire. It's unclear if he was a name Dolson already had on his list or if the search firm recommended him, but we ended up with him so the process worked either way. Overall, since we ended up with Cignetti there is reason for optimism. It's clear that the criteria of what to look for was solid. I will say that a lot of the names that are being thrown around I'd be very happy with. Stevens, Drew, Otzelberger at the top of the list but I'd be ok with someone like Cronin or McDermott. So I'm trying to be optimistic but I can totally understand how others are more skeptical.

I'm all for it as long as they don't think they can take the Woodson route. During the season, it's a lot of hours so no losing a game then hanging with your buddies drinking wine and smoking cigars. HS recruiting is still important so the HC needs to put some effort in there whether it's talking/texting recruits or going to watch them play. I don't want it to be a team made up almost completely of transfer portal players that gets turned over every year. As you pointed out, having someone that can do a lot of the scouting and watching during the summer could make a huge difference. The HC does need to still be somewhat involved, maybe not as much as is required now.
