Fair. But it’s also true that the thread was shut down too soon. My post clearly has a lot in favor of DeVries and that’s what this thread is about. It’s just incredibly frustrating that people can spread objectively bad information for weeks from “sources”, waive it off as “just reporting what I hear”, and then make everyone upset when we make an incredible hire. DeVries will do great and I hope everyone can see that despite the spilled milk.

What people like @Chris007 and @RoadToZion don’t realize is that “Dolson has his guy” meant DeVries some time ago. It’s fun to write fan fiction for 40 days about stuff that was never true, but it’s harmful, especially without names of sources. Personally, I DM’d Chris and he didn’t respond because he didn’t have real names and that’s when I knew it was made up. If you have a real source, attach a name to it. If you can’t, you have something to hide. “I’m trying to protect my sources” -> Go ask a real booster how much they care about sharing their name with what they’ve heard. My guess is he just heard from other people on here who were dreaming / fan girling. People like him make me want to believe, but the fanfiction is never true and it’s not rooted in reality or objectivity . Leading people to the dumbest possible conclusions / outcomes and setting unrealistic expectations alongside your “anonymous” board posters who want to boost the same narrative hurts what we’re trying to do as a university. It steals the joy from everyone on here when we make an objectively awesome hire like the one we just made. (No one can see how awesome it is because we did a breaking-Brad story on here.and thought if not him, it was someone like Brad). People like Jeff Goodman give it a spark by including names that were never an option because he wants clicks, then this board takes it and runs with it. If Brad Stevens actually wanted this job, Woody would have stepped down a while ago. There was never a “done deal” with him or anyone else besides DeVries. DeVries was the done deal. There was never a conversation had or a handshake deal with Brad. Never. Also, because it needs to be said: Chris Beard was never a serious candidate because the Knight family hates Beard. Another thing this board doesn’t seem to get. This was an incredible hire. Incredible. I looked at over 40 “successful” midmajor or former midmajor guys in January and he’s in a select handful that will succeed. I had no idea if we’d hire him and to me, his hire was wishful thinking. We actually poached a guy from a Power 4 school, who quite literally, transformed a 9-23 team and had the team in the tournament without his 2 best players. His 18 years under Altman and McDermott should speak for themselves. He wins no matter who his assistants are (Archie did not) and that’s also huge! If you actually want insider info, follow IUanon1976, Tyme, or ScottDolson’sBurner. They’re actual insiders. It may not be what you want to hear, (and I know a lot of people on here don’t like them because it isn’t what they want to hear), but it’s real information, not fanfiction. This has been my tedtalk

Some of you are just unhappy people at your core. “True test” as if he isn’t the greatest thing to happen to IU football in history. Even if he wins just 6 games, it’s still better and more consistent than anything we’ve ever done.

Meaning he took a bunch of D2 players to D1, got them to perform at higher level than what was previously accomplished by a former, highly touted coach in DeVries, and beat teams in Power 4 conferences.

Will Wade is more Cig than McCollum. There are no rose colored glasses. He’s one of the best hire-able coaches available not in power 4. Simple as that.

Brother he went 30-3 in his first year. Drake lost a ton of players. The answer is not long.

“D2 Coach” … try: -4 time D2 National Championship winner -30-3 in his first season at D1 with wins over Miami, Vanderbilt, FAU, and Kansas St out of conference. Woody could dream. -Respected across college basketball and asked for advice by coaches like McCasland, May, and Schertz. Get a grip. This is a much bigger name than Woody, Archie, or yes, Crean.

He’s one of the premier midmajor candidates lmao. It’s proof that we are still relevant. If we weren’t, the biggest / hottest names at that level would not want to come here. It’s far less likely, and happens far less frequently, that big names jump to other programs when they are successful. Stop wallowing. Start enjoying.

This guy won the SEC in a very heated booster environment where fans are constantly unhappy. Brian Kelly can’t even do that there with all the resources and support given to him. He continued to win despite sanctions, investigations, and suspensions. Then he took the fall for several other big name coaches doing the same thing (we all know Self was named in that investigation, as was Pitino, as was Duke) because they had the most evidence. The fallout was ugly, he had to wait, and then he rebuilt himself again at McNeese, and had them in the tournament AGAIN in back to back years. The videos of his players and his manager are incredibly likable, and they’ve taken social media by storm. Those types of things speak for themselves in recruiting. Let’s not forget that Coach Cig was very unlikable before he started winning. You can try to say that he was, but man did he put a target on his back in everyone else’s eyes. He still does, but do you hate it? No, because he’s your coach, you’re winning, and that’s outside noise
