    NBA Thread

that's an interesting chart for sure, I'd like to see some of the numbers it's based on -- Klay shot as many 3's as Reggie (18 years in the League)? Reggie was the most prolific 3-point shooter in NBA history at the time he retired. Allen passed him later. Klay? Edit - here are there respective stats according to Basketball Reference, surprising me: Klay over 12 years 3PA 6,562 for .411 % Reggie over 18 seasons 6,486 for .395% - so Klay outshot Reggie, But what this chart and PARTICULARLY with Curry doesn't factor is how the rules and refereeing of perimeter shooting changed significantly from the 90's to current day, to deliberately increase scoring because, supposedly, that attracts more eyes. Guys like Reggie, Bird, etc. dealt with significantly more aggressive perimeter D. Not to sound like a certain Scott on the board, but in all seriousness, as good as Curry is his numbers would be different in the 90s when guys would be all over him. MJ guarded Regg, imagine MJ guarding Curry

Not old enough. I know the history but never saw him play. But for IT regardless, it was all skill, a 'little' guard who could destroy anyone. That's part of the equation for me.

Agree -- I've seen a lot of great players at IU, Cal, Henderson, May et al, but Isaiah was just incredible -- and he went on to be one of the best point guards to have played in the NBA. Some of those guys are close in my mind, but IT? What an amazing guard.

58 now. I remember him as a player, but not in the same class as I remember guys like May, or I Thomas, etc. He was a really good college player, but not like those guys to me.

And unlike with RMK, in my mind that might actually be a good thing. His level of importance to IU is greatly inflated in his own mind.

    Puerto Rico Trip 8/5 - 8/12

Yes agree, maybe we're just talking past each other. The style of play that DeVries is running -- and which the players and he talked about pre-Puerto Rico -- was reflected in the writeups, in the limited clips we did get to see ourselves, and in the box score -- high volume 3-point shooting, spread between several players with ball movement, and a fairly fast pace. I take very little from individual stats / player stats, and total points scored, or rebounding, I'm just talking about the system / style of play, and that's pretty clear imo.

Why do you ignore the writeups, from the people who “went?” Lol what’s the problem with their accounts of the team’s pace, and the volume of threes, and the spreading of number of shots between the players in 3 games tells you nothing?? Come on man, of course you can start to get a feel for the style of DeVries’ offense it’s not rocket science

We won’t shoot 29%, we have some really good deep shooters, I like what the tempo looks like, true to the pre-season narrative. I don’t take much out of exhibition games as to stats plus or minus, but schemes and style show.

    Puerto Rico Trip 8/5 - 8/12

Ahh, this says it all - In its three games on the island, Indiana attempted 87 3-pointers and made 26, shooting just under 30 percent. The transition offense was as advertised, too. All five players consistently pushed the ball upcourt, attacking quickly and scoring in transition before the defense could get set. The Hoosiers averaged 90.6 points per game, scoring at least 81 points in each game. The pace at which Indiana played wore down both opponents by the end of the first half. “I think stylistically, we’re playing to how we want to play,” DeVries said of the three games. “Most of that comes down to that movement, being able to give yourself up so that we can get another guy an open shot.” In years past, Indiana’s downfall was a severe lack of in-game adjustments.. Instruction during games was minimal. Under DeVries, that has changed. He made timely adjustments that helped guide his team to two comeback wins. Throughout each game, he and his staff consistently coached and taught from the bench.

I'd be interested to see the ultimate stats. It's not a zero game if we're talking playing time for frosh -- it's not whether or not they get signed to a college team, it's how much the frosh play, and I do think we're seeing 'older' teams in that frosh are playing less now that there are many more veteran players available to be picked up by other teams.

Was my immediate thought as well. My impression w/o the stats is teams have been and are continuing to get/play older post Covid and through the portal, which has affected frosh recruiting and playing time across the board.

Obviously, Stephens should shoot all of our 3's Kidding aside, gotta love the assists numbers across the team and balanced scoring. And 71-41 ratio's not bad
