IUBB vs Louisville - Wednesday, 11.27.24 @ noon on ESPN

I largely agree with the lineup adjustments in the above-quoted Hoosier Illustrated article. The article breaks down the problems pretty well. Need continuity of floor leadership — Rice, Gallo. Need continuity of scoring, stop subbing out Bako early when he’s in rhythm and hitting. That’s just plain stupid. Need continuity generally of the starters with complimentary subbing not across the floor substituting over a couple minutes. -

Hysterically on point with exactly what several of us said during and after the UNC-G game. I’ve wondered if the group-like subs were because these are early, easy games, for development of the bench players. Whether it was or wasn’t those sub patterns have to go away against teams like Ville etc. We’ll see in the Ville game if staff knows what they’re doing, or not. Can someone send this to Woodson? Lol, but, uh, maybe seriously -

Yeah looked like fatigue. Getting to the championship game downing Baylor convincingly is a good sign for the season, I don’t put much stock in this L. Concern though in how long Syd is out, she’s a pretty key part of the team -

And count me among them lol. 2 B1G championships, 3 SW16’s, the Wat shot embarrassment of Cal causing him never to return, the multiple years of guys like Vic, Cody, Yogi, Wat, Hulls and the high scoring outside shooting — and all with the constant humor provided by that spastic, diet cokeaholic ridiculous expression man parading on the sideline… Yep, measured against CAM and Woody? I’m pining :) -
That’s certainly positive! :)

Yes agree, it’s been largely a first half thing. For that reason, it being early in the season with a number of new players, and that we’ve played weak teams so far (other than the ex ag UT, in which I think rotations were tighter), I’ve been hoping the current subbing stuff is developmental and will go away against the better teams. We’ll see soon. -

Stu, as AZ Hoosier says maybe better than I did in my post, it's more the when/why then the who. Just look at what happened. This happens often under Woodson, he throws in a group of players when the players on the floor are playing well, and he often even pulls the "hot hand." I mean we've seen that repeatedly under Woodson, his subbing decisions are often head-scratchers and he keeps making bad sub decisions. I love Gallo. I think Tucker is terrific. But that's not the point. -

You could see how the rhythm was disrupted by what was basically a 4-man sub, that was really obvious if you were watching. It's not that you can't sub when up significantly like that, it's the multiple-player subbing at once / close together that's the problem. My post also was to respond to your point about the score when those guys were on the floor -- that was misleading, as they didn't develop that score. I don't think it's 'f'ing fickle', I think it's just pretty obvious Woodson's subbing is f'd up. -

That's true but it was 19-5 when Woodson's subbing seemed to break the flow, subbed in Tucker, Gallo, subbed out Carlyle and Ballo. It was the poorly timed subbing that broke our flow. Rice had just assisted Bako to take IU to 17, at that point Bako was playing in rhythm (he earlier hit a shot to take us up 14-3). Rice hit a layup to get us up 19-5. The other guys fouled and Woodson subbed Carlyle and Ballo out. Less than a minute later he subbed out Bako and Malik and put Goode and Hatton in. That's basically the group subbing that put all those guys in. It was still 19-5, we had been in control of the game. As the play by play reflects things then deteriorated. Hatton got a 2 to take us to 21-5, but then came misses, turnovers, and fouls, and UNCGB began scoring. By the 7:36 min mark Woodson was subbing Bako and Rice back in, he'd already subbed Ballo back in for Hatton, our rhythm was off and UNCG scored while our guys faltered, by the 5 min mark it was 23-17. By the 4 min mark it was 26-20 etc. -

Agree. Woodson completely killed the flow we’d established. it is a game he could afford to do that, to give a second unit run to try to develop some game chemistry— that’s my glass half full thinking. My glass half empty thinking is just like, Damn Woodson, you suck -

On the pkus side Tucker is showing up offensively, he can get buckets, just a frosh but has a man’s confidence. On the flip side, Bako not finding his rhythm has limited scoring tonight -
