"Dude, we don't need you diving on the floor in practice, but he's going to do it anyway." Love it, we're going to like this kid

Welcome to IU Basketball Prince! -
Wait, he only sponsored half of the spring league? Geez. :)

Agree with much of this -- would add that in one of the recent DeVries interviews he raised/discussed strengths and potential weaknesses of the roster as it is in the context of building the team and preparing, including as to size/rim protection, and talked loosely about the team playing a way to mask weaknesses. We don't really know how strongly DD feels about rim protection but he has been recruiting some guys for it. I'd expect at some point we'll have more length and athleticism up front (but no plodding, typical back to the basket bigs). Also think at this point we're more headed towards a UM-type team than an Iowa-type. How we play this season is going to be interesting to watch for sure.

Schedule is really starting to load up on high quality opponents. DeVries is testing the team early on. Shouldn't have any issues with the non-con SOS ratings...

Fair enough. Where I am -- it's just my opinion -- is who cares. We're not going to pay for everyone at the amount they want in this portal world, we're going to pay at amounts that make sense for the structure of the team as a whole on the values the staff believes make sense.

It’s just speculation. He doesn’t know what was offered that’s just BS, and who cares.

It's speculation.

I was a big PG fan for a long time -- and consider a lot of the 'bad attitude' he was cast with while on the P's to Bird's idiotic, overbearing and genuinely stupid demands, insisting on playing PG at power forward and basically running off the P's then star player -- that said, PG's play for money to leave the Clips Z(where he was largely outstanding) and join the Sixers was itself selfish, short-sighted and well, dumb, and he got what he deserved in making that bad decision. But regardless his broken leg injury from the stanchion isn''t comparable to an achilles tear. Durant's is a direct comparison, and he returned after a year out to continue to dominate as the League's most efficient scorer and a legit superstar. Yep, Hali should be fine, just have to be patient waiting on his return.

Darian DeVries - New IUBB Head Coach

Interesting side-note that per Bozich's article on his interview with DeVries, IU is still waiting on both waiver requests - Leal and Goode. Thought the Leal request was rejected, but apparently not. -

Used to read Bozich's bball journalism when he was with the Courier-Journal, he's genuinely a trendsetter and with 50 years of sports journalism, one of the best out there. Well earned retirement. -
Good thoughts. No idea if the NBA or players union has considered this or will, but agree it makes a lot of sense given the history of players suffering achillies tears.

What an idiot

Excellent article

Defensively looks like we'll be a 'scrappy' in-your-face, high energy lane-defending, defensive rebounding team. That can work with the right guys, at least at this point the roster building looks good for that, imo, and Reed certainly looks like a mis-match on the offensive end. I would still love to have a guy like Ware, a real athletic shot-blocker, but if we don't add someone like that the level of energy/intensity is going to be really important. On top of the outside shooting and spread out play, which I am so looking forward to watching, one thing I'm confident about going in -- we're not going to be re-watching lackadaisical, stand-around players on offense any more. Thank God.

Yeah looks like Hali may well be out all next season, similarities to Durant's torn achilles in the Finals a few years back. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6444379/2025/06/22/tyrese-haliburton-injury-nba-finals-game-7/ P's had a real shot at a title on the Thunder's floor the way Hali was playing, such a shame -- but he'll be back. The questions on Turner will probably turn on the timeline of Hali's return.

Hali getting injured/ re-injured just killed them, great effort through the half but without him, best player down, just don’t have the horses. Really a shame, he came out so aggressively.

Yeah. Thunder built their team effectively through the PG trades/move. Acquired SGA from the clips and continued to build their young team. Rockets were on strong path with their mostly young gunners. Durant is maybe the most efficient/effective scorer in the League, but 37 and the Rockets largely gave up on building around the developing strong young players. Side note - guess who the Heat refused to trade for Durant…. A young core IU player…

Posted this above! But yup

It's a little disconcerting that, seeing a thread title for other sickos, I immediately clicked on it...

It's also the offensive balance. Per ESPN research, P's are the first team in NBA history to have at least 8 players score at least 200 points in the postseason -- whether or not that's fully accurate (haven't checked and we all know ESPN research can be spotty),I'd bet the P's are minimally one of only a few teams who have had that kind of offensive balance in the postseason. Problem is that the Thunder have played much, much better at home, and the series against Denver was similar, and ended with the Thunder crushing Denver in G7. I'm hoping the P's come out and play their best, attacking on both sides of the ball, if they do I think they've got a real shot, but the Thunder are going to bounce back from G6.

I guess the Pacers seem to be doing ok…
