Yes that’s largely how i see it and posted that previously— it’s not a popular opinion but it’s mine — that was a very winnable road game, with a really tough stretch looming, the violation apparently was curfew, and it was minor enough that all of them were right back for the next game. Lots of other punishment options, risking not making the tourney over that was short sighted and stubborn - my opinion, not going to argue with people who disagree, but man just a really short sighted my way or the highway decision that may cost us a tourney bid. Win 2 and none of this matters, and of course people can say you could argue it was x game, but the fact of this season is that it was the beginning of the long losing streak, and yeah we would have won it with an actual point guard and the full team available. So i’m hoping none of this matters -

We just need to win 2 and end the BS, 2 should get us in, 1 prob won’t, and fwiw it all started with Woodson benching half the team ag NWU. Still think that was a terrible decision, still think it may have effectively kept us out of the tourney, but win 2 and it shouldn’t matter -

So long as we play within the rules, including in the grey with a functioning compliance dept, I’m good with it — we are supposed to be able to recruit in the same “pool” as everyone else. The problem has been with our compliance dept. It started with Myles Brand’s approach to compliance. I don’t know how it’s run now, cant really speak to that, but it has been a real limitation. Where other programs’ compliance helps them navigate rules to recruit, ours has looked for violations. Brand was a “traditionalist” — the right way fir him was hard adherence to the rules with academics placed first. It’s been a real disconnect— compliance is supposed to work with, not against, athletics. The Brand legacy is that it has worked against athletics and particularly the men’s bball program. To compete at the top consistently the program needs compliance to help, not hinder it in recruiting within the rules and grey -

I'm kind of torn here. Because of his age and his improprieties I wouldn't have wanted IU to hire him if we were in the same position (no, not the 69 position Stu references lol), he wouldn't be the right coach for IU, but man he's a great coach. The dude will have them winning and winning soon if he's hired. It's a splash hire, can't last that long, but he's a great bball mind (just as Sampson is, fwiw). -

I’m not talking pre-Crean and don’t care about playing fantasy games of what might have been a decade ago if we’d made a run at coach X, all of that is just silly -

In all seriousness all of this bs has been out for a long time and Goodman is a joke. Of course IU self reported, the infractions were silly but IU isn’t UNC and that’s what IU did at the time (and frankly would now) if it discovered the coach (here, having left his former school to escape ncaa investigation) was violating ncaa rules. Are you really unclear on who IU has played? This is kind of odd. Yes, it’s a total crock. -

I’ve had my own groin pull exp, ugh no fun lol, but was back out and running a little over 2 weeks. I don’t know if it’s a groin pull with him, was just a guess, but hope he can get back on the court by b1g tourney -

Really? IU was subject to 5 major NCAA infractions, then it fired Sampson. I guess you don’t consider the top B1G teams “high proflle,” along with the many top flight games IU has scheduled over the years, and UK’s Cal being scared to schedule IU and running away. Ok Stevens? Total crock. Btw, Goodman’s a tool. Curious? Ok yeah, strange post -

I don’t disagree, the system aint perfect by a longshot, but having to cross compare over multiple conferences, mid majors and others who just won’t have the same strength of schedules etc, a lot of variables. They absolutely mess it up, but gotta have a system. I’d rather a consistent system with known measures but it is what it is -

HoosierHoopster replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
The only way to select teams is to come up with some formula or “metrics” to cross compare differing schedules, conferences, etc. The “best” otherwise is simply subjective. That’s not to say they don’t screw it up and weigh things differently in different years and leave out teams that “should” be in, no system is perfect -

Makes the game against Rutgers all the more important imo. Win that game and, imo, we're in. Def want at least 1 W in the B1G tourney, but tend to think a 3rd W over the past 3, against Rutgers, would do it.
