Not Woodson, apparently -
IU FB on cover of ESPN today --" " As we close in on November, it's time to take Indiana, BYU and Pittsburgh seriously." " We're eight games into the season, and Indiana still hasn't trailed at any point. According to ESPN Research, no other program in at least 20 years has done that. " https://www.espn.com/

Newton is my #1. Loved, loved, loved his game. Cool dude too, autographed a shirt for my Mom . And he later basically owned Japan, he's a living legend there. -
Good news and imo especially that Jakai is scrimmaging 15-18 minutes. Should be just a matter of time now.

IU's new shoe contract:

Yeah JHS was outstanding and while Tucker needs to develop/show outside shooting, a really good mid-range game is underrated. Demar Derozan is the outlier example, fantastic player

2024-2025 Minutes Projections
HoosierHoopster replied to HoosierFan1994's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Not far off imo except I'm banking on Jakai working his way into real minutes, yes they're slow-walking him back but we've seen him in a starter jersey from short practice clips and Woodson was vocal about how he's our best (hey, only) above-the-rim player -- and you don't get that kind of statement from a guy not playing his way back. Also tend to think we see Leal with some time, think Woodson will insert him at times for his veteran play to stabilize things when needed. I can't tell yet on Gallo since he's also working his way back. Tend to think he'll play more than Carlyle -
He's a midrange player to date - a very, very good midrange player. Definitely should and hopefully will expand his game to the perimeter but that's not been his game to date. Will say that man his 2-point shot looked good in the scrimmage.

Anyone Still Want to ‘Fire Scott Dolson’?
HoosierHoopster replied to go iu bb's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Moren built the Women's bball program into consistently one of the best programs in the B1G and a perennial contender in March. Sig is 7 games in. Moren is 226-99, 9 consecutive 20-win seasons with 6 tourney appearances over 10 years. I get that Loaded Chicken said "so far," but come on its' not even 1 season and as well as he's doing IU hasn't beaten a legit power football program yet (loved the Neb beatdown but it isn't that his season), kind of big games coming against MSU and Mich though both are down, big time game coming against OSU. -
He's been practicing and we've seen footage of him bursting up court, Woodson has commented on how athletic and above-the-rim he plays, but that they're limiting his time to slow walk him back so he's fully healthy. Those signs are good

Siap -- this from Woodson on Jakai (from Indy Star): "He's doing fine. No, [Newton] can't go every day yet, and that's because we won't allow him to go every day," Woodson said Thursday. "We basically are slow-walking him back, but the days he's been out there have been pretty impressive.” "He's probably the best explosive athlete on our team in terms of playing above the rim. It's scary how good he is in that regard, but we just gotta get him back fully healthy and he's not there yet." And on Tucker: “I gotta mention this guy because he’s the only freshman we have on our roster, but he doesn’t play like a freshman,” Woodson said. “I’m not trying to add pressure to him. He has a long way to go as a basketball player, but boy, I love everything about him. He’s really been good for me so far.” -

Sitting back watching how the individual players moved within the plays, on and off-ball ball, from a pure scoring / offensive standpoint, I was most impressed with Tucker. There are several on the team who will play professionally somewhere, imo, but Tucker is the most likely NBA player. He looks like a killer scorer out of the gate, should and I think will see good minutes, but that's going to turn on his D imo -- he may be a frosh, but he's very comfortable within the plays, from the time he was on the floor, no indication he was ever lost out there. Confidence very clear, dude has swag. Ballo is the most dominant player on the team, hands down, played well outside and gets to the hole well, and the mini-hook and one-handed floater were nice weapons to see going along with his strength inside. I thought Rice looked like the best overall player on the floor, though. He was playing a pure point role and still found scoring, a nice 3, had a couple really nice inside feeds, wasn't looking to find his, was playing setup man throughout, and as they play more together I think we'll go as deep as he can lead us. Goode looks like the best pure outside shooter, though more a set shooter. Bako, once he finds his rhythm, looks like the guy who scores in bunches, and is sometimes quiet, not forcing it. He looks stronger, hope to see him more at the 4, and hope to see some sets with him and Tucker for more O. And with a nod to Loaded Chicken Leal should see some time, looks like the vet that will bring stability and solid play when needed. -

Thanks for posting this. I saw Ballo block at least 2 shots fwiw. Both 'teams' looked tight / not dialted in until it was 10-5 White team and then the energy level picked up. Shooting is there, imo, just need flow / more time gelling. Goode's shot is smooth but more of a set shooter. -

Yes, all accurate. Do have to give credit for the JHS recruitment/commitment. That was solid. Outside of JHS, what has Woodson actually done/accomplished in HS recruiting? I think he’s lazy. He has been showing up better to see recruits this recruiting season, a positive, but the results aren’t great -

Wasn't so long ago that HH / Midnight Madness threads were long and hopping. Another NIL effect I guess that HH seems to be getting so little attention. Looking forward to the scrimmage and seeing how guys like Jakai look, and who's running with who. Would be nice to see some early freedom from the arc as well. -

Personally, I like seeing things differ year by year. I want to see the team scrimmage -- the early look at how players look, who's healthy, what lineups look like / who is playing with whom -- but it's also good to see HH a hyped event, and it's very much part of the picture that IU needs to compete with the other big programs, see UK etc. running their pre-season midnight madness events.
