Just curb stomp Wisconsin

Yeah, the latter. Love Sampson’s coaching, dude knows how to strategize and the guys play their best for him, but U of H’s standards for player academics and lifestyle differs from IU. Guys under Sampson at IU were failing out and regularly getting into drug issues. Phonegate was a joke, but Sampson wouldn’t have worked out at IU anyway

2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection
HoosierHoopster replied to Five Prime's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
^^ I tend to think he's coming back to grow his game to climb into the first round, and the NIL money changes the equation, but of course he has several options outside the NBA and/or G League where he can make real money as a pro, practice and play against pros, and/or go undrafted and make an NBA team. Can't really call it at this point imo. -

Said it above, and while I do think he has the potential to develop more handle to move into more of a wing role, just like OG did as he progressed in the pros, imo we're getting too caught up in the wing or else discussion. Kopp just isn't at the level the team needs to take the next step, he barely scored, he can't create his own shot, he can't defend slashers, he can't elevate well, he's a catch and shoot spot up shooter, which has real value, but it's not top of the conf competing play value. JG has all the tools, he already rebounds, defends, blocks and yes scores along with the top players on the team, and he will, I think clearly, continue to improve/develop, while Kopp is at his ceiling. Just look at Race after his red-shirt soph year and what he became as a junior and senior. That's what we should (imo) be looking for, not continuing to slot Kopp into the "3" or significant playing time just because he's been there. -

Of course, like I said the wing discussion is beaten to death, we've covered that ad nauseum. I don't really care where Geronimo plays so long as he's playing well into 20-plus minutes, and honestly I think that Kopp's minutes should be reduced should be clear. Have said it before, this is not to disparage Kopp, he adds value, but if we want to be competing towards the top of the B1G, that's off the bench in a role player role. -

It's a we shall see for sure, but seriously Kopp did almost nothing for the team offensively, and you're glossing over Geronimo's significantly increased playing time by the last few games, and Kopp's reduction in playing time -- UM - Kopp 34 min, JG 19 min Wyoming - Kopp 21, JG 19 (JG 15 points, Kopp 0) St Mary's - Kopp 22, JG 21 (JG 9 points Kopp 0) The wing discussion has been beaten to death. JG needs to play a lot, he's going to be even better, Kopp is not going to be any better. I'm a Bates fan, he can also make a big jump -

Kopp scored at the bottom of the team, like 10th, and Geronimo repeatedly showed a pretty solid outside shot. His stroke is good. Kopp adds outside shooting, but he cannot create his own shot, he's a catch and shoot player. We will be much, much better, on both sides of the ball, if Geronimo continues to progress along the lines he's already shown. That progression is up to him, but man he's one thousand times better than having Kopp play extended starting minutes. -
Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff

Minor point but the NCAA doesn't pass laws, they have rules and regulations which the member schools are required to follow (for "institutional participation"), and their enforcement mechanisms are limited... -
(2022) - SG C. J. Gunn to DePaul

2 things I like a lot in his shooting— elevation, and that he creates / shoots off the bounce and on breaks. Looks like a strong scorer in the making at the college level -
Right. That’s the crazy thing the “regulation” is all over the place. That needs to change, but the “how” is complicated.

I would be surprised if any IU player went into the portal at this point. Think that would’ve happened already, like with the guys who did early.

Yeah poorly researched story ... but I still see the potential in Bates for the next level. Hoping to see a big frosh to soph jump in him, and will be surprised if we don't. Love tough 2-way players who can score at multiple levels, Bates has that. -

I've always been in the want-good-form-but-whatever-works mindset. Reggie Miller brought the ball from way down and had a funky looking 3-point shot his whole career. Until Allen was the most prolific 3-point shooters in NBA history and still one of the best ever. Form matters, but it aint the end all -

The thing is it’s almost unregulated at this point. The rules are pretty unclear. -

Morris has been an ACC player of the week, his stats don’t really reflect how good he is. Really unassuming, bright kid (also a several time academic all american or something like that), came out of Richmond TX, which is basically a far out SW Houston suburb not far from where we live, my son worked out with him and an AAU coach regularly. He’s the kind of up front player who helps the whole team -
Truth But I kind of liked Barney Fife

Sure one never knows, but Duncomb came in a top 100 ranked kid, no reason at this point I'm aware of not to expect him to put in the work. Race of course reclassed, but still a good ref point, he averaged under 4 points and boards as a soph, development... -

Dumcomb is kind of a sleeper. He wasn't fully healthy and had to build his body, and was behind seasoned vets as a frosh. Consider Race's frosh look to his soph look... Race wasn't ready either and redshirted. I'm looking forward to seeing what a soph Duncomb might grow into Btw, Race didn't become a full-time starter until his redshirt junior year -

2022-2023 IUBB Roster Projection

I’m looking at it this way — We finished the year basically the best D in conference— allowed least points per possession, FG D was very good. So far we’re returning all of that except Phin, and JG’s D (already strong) will be better this season and with more minutes We’re adding as of now the #5 ranked (247) incoming class including Ren who’s excellent defensively). The team right now has good chemistry and defense is not a weakness, it’s a strength. Imo we do not need Dennis. I’m for development, guys develop, on both sides of the ball. I go back to remembering people calling for Wat to transfer after his sophomore year, and saying Vic was a “mediocre” shooter and always would be after his sophomore year, and there’ve been a number of those guys. We have a strong core right now. Chemistry, commitment of staff to the players who who are committed to the team and have shown contributions to the team matter. Running out and grabbing portal players at the expense of all that is not any kind of guarantee and it comes with risk. Guys like Leal contribute, depth, locker room, chemistry, skill set including shooting that with development can blossom, all that matters -
