Except Carlyle hasn’t shown much yet anyway. I like what Gallo can bring off the bench, but definitely not convinced at this point that Carlyle should start over him, as he get his game legs back interested to see if f the lineups stay set (acknowledging they tend to under Woodson)

NCAA to “weed out” weed from banned drug list?

I don't know about the stupid part, all kinds of athletes use/smoke weed, and again it's legal in many states throughout the country and has zero sports enhancement effects so context here, just silly imo. Side note, as I posted this almost a year and half ago, not sure prompted the convo, lol. I am all for sensible regulation -- the NCAA needs a great deal of improvement.

Looking to see - Jakai and Gallo continuing to get their game legs back, - better outside shooting and what sets / schemes are being run, to create perimeter movement and shots, - how the team gets out in transition - how well Tucker plays on the defensive side of the ball, how well he shoots within the schemes - how balanced we look (or don't) between inside and outside play

Espn page has their ranking of the top 100 players in MBB. Some “interesting” rankings. IU players: 62 - Rice 44 - Malik 19 - Ballo Rice is … under-ranked

9-0 is crazy. I remember when IU went to the rose bowl, haven’t seen IU football like this in decades. Or ever. Cig basically brought his team I guess, but, damn. 13th ranked, maybe higher now — ok Woodson, the bar is sei, Moren and Cig are majorly outperforming you.

Can I just say looking at any projection that has Wiscy back down at the bottom— where that annoying cheese-head team belongs— brings a smile to my face. :)

I don’t think many realize just how good Jakai is. Can’t wait to see him back at 100%. Encouraging that he’s getting game play this early. Dude can soar, has a nice handle, can be a force on perimeter D. Leal and Cupps minutes? Maybe if his return is a slow path, but he could be a much bigger impact player than that — that’s a dark horse position for a real tourney run imo

I’m really worried about this game :)
  17. What we showed in transition is being kind of overlooked here. I think we won points in transition in this game (we were winning last time i checked), and that is a change from last season. So were our close outs. So were several lineup looks that got good runs. It was an exhibition but there were several ways in which this team, besides the players, looked different. Shouldn’t read too much into this game, but thst switch also shouldn’t be thrown so hard that differences are ignored
  18. Good grief the lengths people go to on a board to get riled up. Who cares if it was an exhibition game? It was a sold W where both teams were trying out lineups and we were down 2 likely key players and it was on the road. No one is saying it proves how great IU is, it's just a heck of a good looking start, in a game both teams were trying to win down the stretch. Personally, I enjoyed it.
  19. Sure. But it’s 3 years not one. Woodson hasn’t cared about the arc, he has deliberately disregarded it for each season here. Here’s to hoping yesterday was the start of his now buying in.
  20. I've several times given Woodson and staff credit for doing a great job in the portal. I then several times have said now it's up to CMW to show he can win with this roster and with different looks/sets, that incorporate 3-point shooting and generally a more balanced offense than the 2-big O he's run no matter what for 3 years. Now I'm saying I'm cautiously optimistic -- some of what I was hoping to see was in yesterday's game. On referring to Cups etc., no I don't agree with that Stu and this has been hashed out on the Board several times my friend. Under Woodson we've been at almost the very bottom of all D1 Ball in outside shot attempts for 3 years and that's with every outside shooter we've had, Kopp etc. There's no excuse for that in today's game, Woodson has been living in 70s basketball too long. But my post you responded to was a positive one, no?

    IU Basketball News and Notes

You are correct. We took 15.5 3's per game last year (15.7 in conference). That was 'good' for 325th in MBB, that's just plain terrible game planning/coaching. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/indiana/men/2024.html While our opponents took 25 last year. Taking 11 in the first despite going O'fer on them to me is encouraging. Everyone was rusty and playing tight in the first half of the first exhibition (on both teams). Finding good looks and then going 4-8 in the second was key to the W. We don't win that game without some balanced outside shooting to keep us in the game and then stretch things. We played from behind for most of the game after leading I think it was 16-14. The 3's were absolutely key to the offense keeping us in it and then holding serve to finish. That, to me, is definitely an encouraging sign.
  23. I'm with you on what you refer to as the scheme -- still looked like "Woody ball" for good stretches but -- lineups were better as someone pointed out above, we have a heck of a point in Rice, which changes a lot on its own, Bako looked a lot better to me, 3-point shooting was way off in the first half but we shot I think it was 11 outside shots and in the second took good outside looks and made 50% of them, and end of the day talent (that hustles) and size usually will beat lesser talented teams. We have the talent -- across the floor -- with a terrific point guard, and especially as this was without a key player in Gallo and what likely will be a key player at some point during the year in Tucker, my optimism level is going up. So, agree also this could be a very good year, and that's kind of despite CMW (though I do want to give the staff credit for running different looks during this exhibition).
