2023 SF/PF Mackenzie Mgbako to Texas A&M via Portal

What I've learned - Math is difficult for some here. :) -
Hmm, Giannis has “gone fishing,” his season’s over. :) Kawhi for sure has always struggled with injury, PG’s been getting injured more often, but the talent is there and that team is now built well for a run. The grass aint always greener…
-
More surprised, and skeptical, about T Lue, Clippers are extremely supportive of him, and Clipps would likely have at least made the WC championship but for Kawhi’s and PG’s injuries
-
Basketball and football. UNC is a very good school, and like Iu has a great business school, but man a history, as in multiple years, of an entirely fake studies program? That’s more than an asterisk in my book.
-
Don’t know, but wouldn’t put contract shenanigans past Sampson….
-
Would be a big loss to UH if the Bucks were to pick him. He’s built a heck of a bball program here and has an established well run UH basketball camp
-
All kinds of wildlife… Try Texas lol. I live SW of Houston, wooded suburb with bayous, river / inlets. I’ve had an alligator, coyotes, wild hogs, and a cougar, to go with a skunk (that sprayed my dog, dear God the smell), snakes, and deer, rabbits, etc. The cougar flat out freaked us out lol One of the nuttier ones was this ridiculous friendly duck that decided we should feed him

I am a Hoosier. Gary Parrish is a Hoser. -
I need to check with some other orthos.def have some arthritis, result of a prior injury, but had it bf the lig tears (tore in a bball game), that’s the problem now they for some reason just won’t heal, pretty crazy, so deciding whether to live with it (can bike and swim but can’t run, play bball anymore) - sucks.
-
Anyone ever had ankle ligament surgery? Having severely torn 3 liga in my ankle, went through like 30 rehab sessions and have since done all kinds of strength building exercises, but the ankle has never fully healed and it’s been 2 years, crazy. My stupid ortho says it’s arthritis. Even when I showed him the MRI showing 3 “severely torn ligaments.” So I’m thinking about ankle surgery but 2 years in and at 56, not sure about it. Anyone done the surgery?

Back in college I ran a sub-40 10k, mostly at a 6 min/mile pace (converting), last few years, “stopping to smell the roses,” I used to run 10k’s at more like an 8-9 min /mile pace, but Tore 3 ligs in my right ankle during covid and can’t run anymore. Sucks. Running is a separate state of mind

Who fills the last scholarship?

I dunno, was thinking he’s more a combo of Magic, Bird, Nash with a sprinkle of MJ? Kidding aside, he has the look of a kid who can develop into a guy who, as a pure point, can thrive with the kind of length and athletic players we’re seeing committed now and hopefully going forward. He’ll learn under X, he’ll get stronger with the IU weight and conditioning training and age. It’s always great to get a Yogi level point, but he shouldn’t have to be Yogi, a true point surrounded by attacking wings, scoring guards and mobile bigs is just as good. -
Trayce Jackson-Davis - Golden State Warriors

But who is better looking, Boban or Edey? -

Great to see those combine results, I think it's fair to say TJD is even more of a player than we saw. He's going to get drafted, probably late 1st or early 2nd. Here's to hoping he finds a good fit, and sticks in the League. -

Edey is flat out slow, can you imagine him trying to stop Jokic, the Greek Freak, Durant, etc. etc.? Or how do you think Edey vs Wembanyama 1v to the rim would go? Or how will Edey fare against even mid-level NBA guards and wings? He has size and length. He can get picked, but he'll get owned on the floor repeatedly if he does. -
Team Outlook and Class Balance Going Forward

Have to say that staff's 'rebuild' after losing TJD and JHS to the draft and/or graduation, Kopp and Race to graduation, Bates, JG and Duncomb to the Portal is encouraging for the team's outlook going forward. Not really a big fan of the whole Portal thing, but while Crean showed strong player development / NBA entries, what he really failed to get right (and worsened over time) -- maintaining class balance with high-level players as players declared and/or graduated (Cody, Vic, OG, Yogi, Wat etc.), resulting in major falloffs after a strong season or seasons and in turn at least partly causing lower-level recruiting results -- at this stage Woodson/staff look to have excelled at. Imo, we look to be on the path of sustained / repeat shots at top half or better conference showing and tourney qualification and runs. (CAM's recruiting fell off sharply, leaving that aside for what it was.) Mgbako, Ware, Cupps, Newton, Walker, Sparks, adding to X, Reneau, Gallo, and the rising sophs. Walker, 4 years of exp (and athleticism) at Miami, Newton a 4-star who pre-injury was ranking in the 60's and looks minimally like a strong combo-guard with upside - an explosive, athletic leaper when healthy, a second-team All-MAC (and MAC FOY) guy in Sparks - a double double guy, on top of the killer player that we all know Mgbako is and Ware and Cupps? Can't tell yet how well this team stacks against this past season's team, but that's a Hell of a look towards consistent contention. It also looks like we're finally moving again to better length, athleticism and speed. Particularly important with UCLA etc. coming to the B1G soon. We need more shooting, but this is a heck of a start imo. -

Maybe, but I see class balance in the works. Mgbacko and Newton- frosh, we have recruited rising sophs with promise, and we replaced graduating vets with experienced talent. Meanwhile we’re recruiting guys like Flory Bidunga, staff is looking at building on elite frosh, like they did with JHS and Reneau, while also bringing in portal transfers, and as some like Reneau stick, that’s balance -
Agree, we seem to have several key player injuries every season. Wouldn’t bank the scholly
-
Has to be a sniper, several good shooters available, the work beyond the stats is getting a good culture guy, fit. Also hope he can create his own shot, mobile, not just a set shooter.

It’s inspiring. I’ve been working in my 6 a.m. game too. Get up, move to pantry (fast break). Grab coffee bin (fast hands). Move to counter (floor vision). Grind coffee. Add to percolater - that’s right @Stuhoo percolater, suck eggs! Fill mug. Sidestep dogs’ effort to trip me on way to chair - lateral movement. Deep knee bend (sit down). Drink. Repeat — practice makes perfect. -

I guess it depends on your def of elite guard play. Certainly had it with JHS. This season X will be one of the best B1G guards. I wouldn’t call Gallo elite, but he’s strong on both sides of the ball and his shooting was good this past season. Given current recruiting, chances of landing elite guards going forward looks high -
