(2024) - Liam McNeeley to UConn

We’re going about this all wrong. We just need to recruit guys who like pizza. Then we’d be all set.

    College Bball Thread

Seconded, strongly. Opportunity, fit, and success - and luck - in recruiting, all weigh in heavily in an individual coach’s successes, and how he (or she) is perceived. For that matter, what the program and its fan base require/ impose is right in there. On the Painter discussion, would he have lasted at IU? He wins well and consistently in conference, no doubt he’s a good coach, on and off the floor, culture is good, and he’s consistently successful in recruiting players - bigs - who fit his system, but tourney level? Despite his strength in conference, just not so sure he would have lasted here.

    Movie Thread

A twist on the above. How about, what is the worst movie you've seen / had to sit through? - Star Pilot, was released in '77 to cash in on the success of Star Wars. As a 10-year old, I was like, WTF?? I'd seen Star Wars and was all pumped up. When a 10-year old is let down.... It's partly but not fully dubbed into English, includes scenes from a Japanese film (Gorath) and from another US film (Doomsday Machine) - it was originally a 1966 Italian film, it took spaceship sets from other movies. It's soo incredibly bad it's flat out laughable

Eastwood films deserve a mention, one of his I always enjoy is The Outlaw Josey Wales (it’s also based on a book, another good read).

Agree -- 2 I would add, at least for me, Finding Forrester -- One of if not the best Connery film Good Will Hunting -- for me, Robin Williams' best film, and the other guys weren't too shabby either

Oh yeah, several of those are in my top fav films, All the Presidents Men Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Alien -- I wouldn't have thought off hand of Being There, but that's both a great movie (Peter Sellers) and book - the book is something else Only quibble, if you're going to list Terminator, Gotta list Predator (I somehow re-watch it every time it's on) I kind of laughed at including Animal House -- "when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor: .... :)

    NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

No it’s not. We have good depth up front and at best questionable depth at guard. You’re such a contrarian, lol.

I hear you, but see us as thin at guard, and Cupps has promise but is another unproven frosh coming into the B1G's rough-play college game. If Gallo goes down, we're in trouble fast. Same for X, imo.

    NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Agree -- but with the caveat that we're thin at guard and those two both play aggressively, which I think was OGIUAndy's point. Galloway does get injured, has missed a number of games, X is tough as nails, but he also plays an uber aggressive, attacking style, and yes it wasn't a lig or tendon, but it was still a season-ending injury. I've been hoping we'd land a good, dependable backup but that's a tough sell, and the rising sophs are still largely unproven, imo. Newton's a wild card, his knee injury is a question mark

(2022) - PF Kaleb Banks to Tulane

He could make that jump as the energy guy / rebounding tough defender and all out hustle player off the bench. He sounds like he’s buying in on that. Positional awareness and avoiding quick fouls and mistakes while he goes for that energy impact will be key

Since I'm still in my "guilty pleasure" mode, here's a Suki Waterhouse cut - My Mind -, a Wolf Alice cut - Moaning Lisa Smile, and a Dinosaur Pile-Up cut - Back foot. The latter two are flat out jams. And Suki ... Oh man.

Saddest album ever. -- Happiest album ever. -- Angriest album ever. -- The Battle of Los Angeles, Rage Against The Machine (what an album) Most relaxing album ever. The Dark Side of the Moon, Floyd Most amped-up album. ACDC's Back in Black Prettiest album. Hard one, will say The Weight is a Gift - Nada Surf, just for Always Love Funniest album or songwriter. Harry Nilsson ("Nilsson Schmilsson") Guilty pleasure album. -- Suki Waterhouse, I Can't Let Go. Supermodel, actress, and really good singer. This album is good, and "My MInd" is fantastic. I need to find her phone number.... Close 2nd: Celebrity Mansions, Dinosaur Pile-Up -- check out Thrash Metal and Back Foot, power chords / some Nirvana or Foo Fighters underlying sound. Close 3rd - Visions of a Life, Wolf Alice - for the song "Yuk Foo" Favorite album of the last five years. -- No idea Album that the world should have noticed, but completely ignored. -- Can't think of one completely ignored, but not enough credit, Heatmiser Mic City Sons (Elliott Smith - RIP, another one gone too early) -- BTW, for you guys who like Nick Drake, listen to Elliott Smith if you haven't (his songs are featured in Good Will Hunting) Artist that the world should have noticed, but ignored. -- Me. Maybe there's still hope Favorite guitarist. Jimi Hendrix - many years before his time, no one comes close to his originality and depth. Favorite pianist. Richard Wright (Pink Floyd) or Ray Manzarek (Doors) if Rock. Favorite horn/string/woodwind player. Joshua Bell (an old friend) Favorite drum/bass/rhythm player. Either John Paul Jones (Zeppelin) or John Entwistle (the Who) Favorite songwriter. John Lennon or Kelly Jones (Stereophonics) Favorite male singer. Kelly Jones Favorite female singer. Currently torn between Suki Waterhouse and Ellie Rowsell (Wolf Alice). Single favorite album ever, as in "I'm stranded for the next 20 years and can only take one album with me." -- No way, can't pick one that's just not possible.

Who would you choose to have a GREAT season?

If he stays healthy, he could have a dominant year. Here's to hoping --
  23. HoosierHoopster

    Grace Berger - Dallas Wings

I think she’s earning her way to more minutes as a rookie, tons of confidence in her, but her averages aren’t apples to apples, she’s not starting, playing consistently against the other teams’ best in extended minutes. Regardless, she’s showing she deserves floor time and in a way that helps the team.

Who would you choose to have a GREAT season?

I honestly have no idea at this point. Just too early for me with the unknowns of several new players and the possibilities they bring. No idea - but if I go out on a limb and have to pick, would probably go w/Bako. I love upside and his looks off the charts to me. Looking forward to seeing all of these guys show.

    (2022) - SG C. J. Gunn to DePaul

You apparently don’t understand too well trod. Not going to counter-point, been there done that. Also not going to play the told you so game. I wish him well, if he does well / better at MD good for him, if he doesn’t, I will see it as too bad.
