Yeah he's from my neck of the woods, my son spent 2 years at SHSU, have seen this dude play, strong shooter, it's going to be fun - I'm stoked to see him at IU, great to see a real offense coming together. -
So have people chilled out now that DeVries has landed an outstanding player and beat UK to do it? I've been as impatient as any but it's been clear it's still early in the Portal recruiting and DeVries has been working hard to build a team with players that fit the system he's bringing, what a great land in Wilkerson, and his joining likely now will help bring in the level of players DeVries is recruiting

This is absolutely dead on correct -- high attempts plus very high percentage, Lamar is a real outside shooter. Our outside shooting game is hitting the ground running. What a great start to a high caliber offensive system. -

Right, can't blame the kids/athletes for cashing in when very, very few will earn much playing bball after college and they have the chance to make really good money while in college. How many of us would turn our backs, at 18-22 years old, on significant money that could take care of us for years, just to pick the school that fans think is better. To me IU is the better place for him, he can shine here and be part of what genuinely should be a really good rebuild with tons of IN excitement, but if he chooses to go to UK because the money is better (no idea on that) won't blame him. -

Where We Live—Recommendations Where To Live

Yep, standard of living is good in that you can get a big house / lot, but the weather is crazy (I've watched it rain on one side of my house and not the other), I've had an alligator in my yard -- IN MY YARD! - the heat is nuts, the storms are nuts (last storm took down three very large trees in my backyard - luckily they fell away from the house, one year the entire neighborhood flooded we were under mandatory evac and were out of the house 5 days, returned by driving my lifted jeep past the barricades and then wading through the 3 foot river in my street that reached the garage, while watching for alligators, we had the ridiculous winter freeze that courtesy of the idiots who run this state who took TX of the national power grid took out all power in the Houston area for 5 days, house was 33 degrees, more than a 100 people died -- died because of the utter stupidity of taking the state off the national power grid (you know, so the power companies could make more money).... It's wack. Lots of jobs here though... lol -

It’s an eyesore and honestly Houston is one ugly city. To have a nice neighborhood outside city limits you have to have master planned communities. To each his own but for me it’s a disaster of urban planning. There’s a real homeless problem- it’s not helping affordable housing at all. -

Where We Live—Recommendations Where To Live
HoosierHoopster replied to Stuhoo's topic in Off Topic Forum
Where I live - Houston area Recommendations- live somewhere else unless you enjoy annual hurricanes, tropical storms and insane heat plus humidity, crappy uninsured drivers, daily shootings, and lack of zoning - so build a gas station next to a school next to a car wash and stack the billboards as high as possible. But the standard of living is high… Personally if I could I’d live on Lake Tahoe - CA or Nev side. vacation there in summer or winter if you haven’t you’ll love it, idyllic, lake’s amazing, it’s like 10,000 feet deep, the skiing is amazing, hiking… And this is different but I’m also considering going back to DC or across the Potomac, Old Town VA area, so much to do, beautiful city, mountains and the Bay nearby. Kinda pricey though lol edit - with you @Stuhooon walkability — love DC (the most European city in the US), can get anywhere on foot / metro / bike— and the bike trails are picturesque and take you through DC-MD-VA. I’d add Chicago to my list as well, my oldest went to NW, so spent good time there, great city. Edit 2 - where I’ve lived Concord NH Bloomington (age 6-21) Atlanta DC VA - Old Town Alexandria Wilmington DE KC Houston- Sugar Land -

I only addressed timing, but then note that DeVries landed W Va's leading scorer last year on May 1. Point is, sky isn't falling right now. -

Deadline for undergraduate players to enter the portal is Apr 22 -- there are exceptions, like for students whose coaches leave the school they get an additional 30 days, and I believe the window does not apply to grad transfers. Here' a link or athletes considering transferring - https://sportsrecruits.com/resources/ncaa-eligibility-and-rules/transfer-portal -

Some key points on timing, from this article -- "During his lone season at West Virginia, he had only one Mountaineer return from the year prior. Through his first four weeks on the job in Morgantown, West Virginia, DeVries had just two commitments: his son, Tucker, who’s now following his dad to Bloomington, and guard KJ Tenner, who originally signed to play for DeVries at Drake University." "It’s a time-consuming process. At West Virginia, DeVries didn’t pick up momentum on the recruiting trail until his fifth week, when he landed three players. He added two more commitments the next week. Senior guard Javon Small, the Mountaineers’ leading scorer this past season, didn’t commit until May 1, 2024 — 38 days after DeVries officially took over." "DeVries started faster in Bloomington. Within DeVries’ first three weeks, Indiana received commitments from DePaul University guard Conor Enright and Davidson College forward Reed Bailey, while Tucker DeVries confirmed his intents to follow his father. Incoming freshman Trent Sisley, a four-star forward, also reaffirmed his commitment to Indiana." -- So, realistically, rstill on target -

There’s still all kinds of time to assemble the team out of the portal, no question— That said I’m squarely in the immediate gratification category— Just want to see guys like Wilkerson commit and see the team coming together. Man I’m so freaking impatient and know it, just get this thing going! -

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. Crean built IU back from complete scratch. Zero schollys, in a few years, to a team that had the talent to compete at the top of the ladder. IU is not the program we know to most HS players, it is not a destination program now, but it does have the resources, facilities, donor support, player and AAU base locally and regionally, fanbase - basketball religion, and history that can still be sold to players. I don’t think it’s faur/accurate to say it’s just another program. Most programs do not have the depth of resources, facilities etc that IU does. So not a Duke/KU shine right now, but it is a program that like under Crean can be built back up fairly quickly under a good coach/staff including strong recruiters -

Well, very interested to see if this is legit. Right after dead period if we suddenly get a bunch of commits from good players that would be something— I’m skeptical on this, but definitely interested to see if it pans
