    They Fired Tom Allen!

If they can do a good job selling those two things I don't see why we can't make a solid hire. Being one of the only B1G/SEC openings represents an advantage to the degree we've probably never had previously and certainly didn't have the last time we went outside our own building to make a hire. It's still early in the carousel but currently the only B1G and SEC openings are IU, Miss St, and Texas A&M, and Miss St seems to have their guy and A&M is shopping in an entirely different district.

    Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

I would love that. Plus I think Sorsby would be a pretty ideal QB for that spread midline option scheme.

The only possible name I can think of would be Jake Dickert from Wash St. His current base salary is about $2.8 mil so IU could potentially offer a nice raise plus significant conference stability and TV revenue to invest in the program, compared to the zero conference stability his program currently has.

Glad to hear a plan is in place and also that they're willing to pay that level of salary. For comparison Ryan Walters is getting $4 million at PU and only Ferentz, Fickell, Harbaugh, Franklin, and Day are in or above the $7-9 million category (Tucker was as well). Justin Frye is currently getting around $800k in his position at OSU so that would be a massive raise for him if that's the direction they go. Initially hearing $7-9 million makes me think more of Dan Mullen territory or another similar coach, however I doubt a guy like that is a plausible candidate for us.
  5. I felt the same. I used to not be a fan of his but he has definitely grown on me a bit. Also, not really related to his commentary, but I just realized a couple days ago his older brother was on our '81 title team. Played quite sparingly but he was there. Thought that was interesting.

    2024 General Recruiting Thread (BBall)

I think even if I was a Purdue fan I would be starting to wonder how many of these super centers they think they need. They already have 7'2" Will Berg as a RS freshman, 7'4" Zach Edey can technically return another year if he wants, and Raleigh Burgess who is listed as tall as 6'11" is already committed in the same class as this 7'3" kid who is now on board. I bet Kannon Catchings is counting down the days to leave Overtime Elite where he plays with other prized recruits and future pros to go to Purdue and play with an entire collection of giants clogging space. Every athletic forward's dream.

    Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

I would go with Justin Frye as my most realistic candidate. Former IU player who has worked under Urban Meyer, Chip Kelly, and now Ryan Day and I think he would not only take the job but possibly via a contract that gives the administration a bit more room to work out of this mess. No HC experience yet but multiple years as OC and OL coach, knows how to gameplan against B1G competition, and he's a guy who simply knows how winning programs do things. I think that was one of the positives Kevin Wilson brought to the program, and given the shape IU football is in I think that may be a quality needed above anything else. Jason Candle from Toledo is also a viable candidate in my opinion, and he may want to hold out for something better but I would also call Manny Diaz at PSU. His defensive unit has done well at PSU and he got kind of a raw deal at Miami, therefore if he badly wants another shot to prove his ability as HC Indiana would be an opportunity to quickly get back to that level. In any case, whatever they do, please, please, please don't do another internal promotion.

In 24 months we went from Penix as starter with a solid backup in Tuttle and the highest rated QB recruit in program history also on the roster, to endless shuffling of RS freshman QB's and an option QB on deck without having recruited to that system. That is next level mismanagement of your most premium position.

    College Football Thread

I would like to check out a little bit of that. FWIW 2 of USA's 3 losses so far were to Tulane and James Madison, one of whom is ranked and the other would be #26 if the poll went that high.

(2024) - Liam McNeeley to UConn

We technically had Josh Smith (#5) and DJ White (#14) in the '04 class but not sure if we want to count that since obviously Smith didn't come and took advantage of the final straight-to-NBA year. That was a little before my time following this kind of thing but I think we had a puncher's chance at Rondo and Dwight Howard too. That could have been an unreal class.

    They Fired Walt Bell

I've been trying to remember the name of that show RMK had on Saturday mornings (I think that's when it was anyway) on some local channel where he would draw and explain plays on his whiteboard, do interviews, etc. It might be the same show you're referring to. Does anyone remember what it was called?
