2021 IUFB Prediction League - Week 12 vs POTFB (A) 11/27/21 3:30pm FS1
craigyv88 replied to LIHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
I'm just gonna pretend Michael Penix suits up probably one last time for us and returns to 2020 OSU 2nd half form, and Bell and Karlaftis start thinking too early about their upcoming NFL paydays. IU - 28 Poodoo - 27 -
College Basketball Doomsday Scenarios

Purdue winning a national title with any record whatsoever would be as doomsday of a scenario I want to imagine. -

I'm terrible at player comps so I probably should have kept that though to myself. I only remember a little about DeRon's pre-injury play style but I do recall him being highly rated out of high school and that Achilles injury robbing him of a lot of ability. I agree Xavier has a better bounce and still think they look kinda similar at that age. -

I could be off with this as I didn't follow recruiting in '15/'16 like I do now, but he sort of reminds me of a younger, pre-injury De'Ron Davis. -

100% agree. Need to get some momentum back with recruiting big guys. Hopefully this is the one that does it. -

Where does IU Football go from here
craigyv88 replied to Hoosierfan2017's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Among other issues currently playing themselves out on the field, I think one of the things holding this team back is a lack of production from some of the top-end rated recruits we've gotten under this staff, which has contributed to depth being at a low level and has made injuries impact the team to a greater extent. Some of this likely stems from Coach Ballou and Dr. Rhea moving on to Alabama as noted in previous posts, and I understand that not all 4-star players are ready to contribute right away. It's also worth noting that we've had a few 3-star guys turn out to be fantastic players under this staff as well (Mullen, McFadden, J. Johnson). Nonetheless, I couldn't help but feel like we aren't getting much out of the multiple 4-star recruits from the last cycles when recruits of that caliber remain at a premium for IU. I looked into the total production in an IU uniform from our eight 4-stars going back three cycles, and here is what I found: 2019 Sampson James (RB) - Rushed for a total of 371 yards on 81 attempts (3.3 YPC) for 3 TD’s in two seasons. Transferred to Purdue. Beau Robbins (DE/EDGE) – Recorded 4 total tackles, 2 solo Cameron Williams (LB) – One special teams tackle against Cincinnati 2020 Rashawn Williams (WR) – Never appeared on the field. Transferred to Hutchinson Community College. Damarjhe Lewis (DL) – Never appeared on the field. Transferred to Purdue. 2021 Donaven McCulley (QB) – Talented and likely QB of the future but not ready for the predicament he's found himself in. 32/75 for 458 yds, 2 TD's / 0 INT's. Jaquez Smith (WR) – Saw game action only against Maryland. No stats recorded. Malachi Holt-Bennett (WR) - Only recorded stat I could find was an incomplete pass thrown against Rutgers. Granted it's still quite early for the 2021 kids and I really like McCulley, Smith, and MHB and what they could potentially bring to the field. And we have multiple 4-star recruits that aren't even here yet (McCullough, Trevell Mullen, Payne, etc). But I think it begs the question how much more ready do these guys need to be to be better than the current awful product on the field? And if they aren't getting there, is that a product of bad coaching, bad development, bad ratings, or all three? -

I just want to see this happen at Memorial Stadium after a big upset one time. It crushes me seeing Purdue do it again and again.

100% agree on the simultaneous catch. That wasn't the most egregious example of it being ruled incorrectly, but it almost always is. Simultaneous possession is supposed to go to the receiver but referees cannot resist giving the benefit of the doubt to the defender. In fact, a bad ruling of that situation was what led to the famous Bill Lynch gum throw against Michigan in 2009.

I hate Purdue more than anything (I'll be an OSU fan when they play next week if that says anything) but man I have to admit David Bell is an incredibly special player and a lot of fun to watch. Would have loved for him to be a Hoosier.

C'mon Sparty, pull it together. I do not want to see Purdue get another one of these games.

I'm definitely not thinking we win this game and there's a good chance it won't be close, but I do think it's fair to question how good this Michigan team really is and if they might come out a little slow after last weekend's blown game or look ahead to better opponents to redeem themselves against. They struggled at home against Rutgers and at Nebraska, and beat down G5 teams, Northwestern, and Washington thanks to a back loaded schedule and Washington being mediocre. The only exception was a win at Wisconsin with Mertz knocked out of the game and Wisconsin's backup QB looking lost. Plus Michigan lost to MSU by only one point less than we did. Also, aside from 2019 where Michigan won big, Harbaugh's meetings against Indiana have resulted in an OT win, a 10-pt win, another OT win, an 11-pt win, and a loss. -
We've probably all sat in some less than desirable seats in AH at some point, but I don't think anything a new arena could provide would be worth leaving behind the uniqueness, character, and history AH offers. I feel like every arena in our conference built in the 90's or later looks exactly the same and basically just resembles a smaller NBA arena. For instance, Nebraska has the newest arena in the B1G by quite a bit (opened in 2013), and if we tore down Assembly Hall to build something like this uninspiring thing I would be a little downhearted as a fan.

I'd have to go with the ball or net from the Watshot or anything from the last game where we beat Purdue. -
(2022) - PF Noah Clowney to Alabama
craigyv88 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
The physicality of the conference could definitely be a big factor and we could debate all day who is a 3 vs 4 vs 5, but by my count of who I’m considering power forwards that we either made a list cut for or got at least an unofficial visit from we’ve gone 0 for 13 since TJD committed on 11/30/2018. I am excited about this staff and their ability and a lot of these misses go back to the prior regime, so please don’t take it as a dig at our current staff as I’m sure they did everything they could to get Clowney, Filipowski, Reneau, etc. It just seems like it’s been extra difficult for us to get across the finish line with a recruit at that position for whatever reason. -

We could be entering an offseason where the USC, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, and Michigan jobs are all open at once. Would be one of the crazier coaching carousels we've seen in a while.

craigyv88 replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
My prediction for this game was a 23 -12 Maryland win, I would have never envisioned 35 points from our offense the way things had been going but would also have never envisioned giving up over 400 yds passing to baby Tua. Regardless of opposition that's 92 points given up in two weeks after a good defensive performance against MSU.
