which theoretically gives teams a chance to change coaches....which I thought was the guy's original point re: the 27th but why would Ainge (allegedly) give Stevens a raise then turn around and fire him? or maybe it's not just Stevens on possibly shaky ground in "Massholeachusetts" -

I can honestly say I'm neither anxious nor impatient. I'm also not terribly optimistic either. That's what surviving the Sampson, Crean and Miller searches can do to a guy.... -

that'll change when Brad's fired and ends up coaching the Pistons, where the players only make 3-4x what he does -

I've seen his USC teams multiple times and still remember vividly his FGCU team which had that good tourney run back in 2013. Runs a number of NBA-ish offensive sets and did beat UCLA twice this season FWIW. Not sure he's enough of a "big name" for Dolson and the donors, but at any rate it's starting to sound like it may end up being Woodson. Which would provoke a lot of interesting reactions, to say the least... -

Candidate Thread: Porter Moser

I understand about the $6-7 Mil, but it's still the case that, at the time, Archie's starting salary at IU was 8th highest in the country. And while bumping it up to $6-7 mil would in theory get IU closer to an elite coach, such a bump won't matter if no "elite" coach is interested. Most of the names I've seen associated with the opening, frankly, aren't ones I'd regard as either elite or worth $6-7 Mil. -

Glass tried opening up the checkbook (to an extent) with Miller by making him the 8th-highest paid coach in the NCAA at the time of his hire. Unfortunately, giving AM an elite (at the time) salary didn't make him an elite coach. Nor does offering an elite salary this time around guarantee that an elite coach will say "yes" to IU. Hope so, but I won't be shocked if, when the dust settles, Dolson also has to settle--for someone like Fife or Moser (although if they're smart Minny might hire Moser as soon as Loyola's eliminated). -
Dolson also wouldn't need help from a 2nd donor in order to offer a salary to Beilein or Matta--neither is in a position to demand anything close to the kind of money Stevens or Beard could get.
-
again, this is my point: if John's hire is conditioned on Dolson/IU getting to pick his assistant(s), I don't think there's any way Beilein will accept that. Nor should he. So if JB truly is the "backup plan" to Beard, I think Scott may end up moving farther down whatever list he's actually using--unless Dolson & the donors are OK with the specter of Patrick Beilein becoming IU's head BB coach around 2025 or so. Which IMO would be reckless.
-
my whole point re: a potential J Beilein hire is that you'd likely get Patrick Beilein as a "twofer" w/ PB being installed as John's likely successor--for me, that's a hard pass I don't know why some (not you) seem to think Dolson could 1) hire J Beilein and simultaneously 2) make John install someone Scott/IU picked as John's successor--that's just not how these things work
-
lifetime sentence for future employment? no someone I'd want as "Head Coach in Waiting" at IU? absolutely not
-
you OK w/ Patrick Beilein? 'cause that's who we very well might get if John B is hired as Head Coach ask the folks at Niagara what they think of Patrick now
-
Beilein would not even consider taking the job unless he could hire his own assistants, and few (if any) of them would be "Indiana guys"
