They “Retired” Coach Woodson Thread
rcbowla replied to Banksyrules's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So last week I said I was out on the program and I meant it, at that time. After cooling off (took entire week) I realized that was said in anger. I'm still mostly indifferent but I will always root for the Hoosiers. Which is why I for the 3,000 time say.....go away Woody....just go away. Anyhow, yeah I was one of those guys but dammit I'm sick and tired of the crap we are being fed. -

This is completely fair and may be his best possible position. I do pose this question though. Does his HC job at Louisville tarnish the credibility he had with recruits while at UK? -

Things are going well here I see. Man, this sucks. We all have a common desire and that is for IUBB to be great again. Yet, here we are fighting amongst ourselves. This is what happens when a coach says "you're either with me or against me". No matter how you spin it, he f'd up saying that crap. -

Except he drew a line in the sand tonight. Under no circumstances can it be viewed as "good" or "nothing" when you push the divide even wider. Especially considering you are the reason the divide exists in the first place. Be the ambassador of IU athletics that you are suppose to be. I'm sorry Stu but to most this isn't a nothin' burger. -

For me, this was the last straw for the man from a personal perspective. He could have handled this opportunity differently. Maybe if he had used some humility and empathy for fans' frustrations, he could have won some of us back to his side, at least somewhat. A simple "I know things haven't gone the way we all wanted but let's go win this BTT and change that". Idk he really could have said a lot of things that would've not alienated the very ones that he NEEDS to get back on his side (there's a lot). Imo he just drove the wedge deeper into the divide. 2 options, and he chose the self-righteous approach over the humbled approach. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk -

Won't have to worry about that. We won't be contending for much. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk -

Idk man but Osterman isn't one to go on anything other than iron clad info. Could things change? I guess but then the IU administration looks like a bunch of fools (they are). Only hope is that they did that to save face and Woodson retires imo. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk -

Osterman is very careful. He got that info from someone incredibly meaningful in the AD. My guess? It was Dolson. I hope I'm wrong and we do still make a change but I'm doubting it very much. God I hope.....it's why I'm still involved on this thread lol. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk -

People will accept a down year or two if they see the progress and potential growth from year 1 to 2 to 3. All we need is confidence in a coach and we haven't had that since Sampson. IU fans are honestly incredibly patient, that's not the issue. The issue is we aren't stupid and can see when a coach isn't going to get it done. -

Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Chris Mullins and Isiah Thomas. There's a difference between will of an athlete and ability of coach/front office. -

Sample size is small and I'll agree with you on that point. However, it's what have to go off of right now and early indications are that when you start getting up to the 5/6 transfer range it generally doesn't go well. Now, can you get 3 or 4 So. and Jr's to then build your core? Yes I suppose you can but they still have to fit to what you want your system to be and the only players that benefit in his system are post players. Have to adapt or all of this is for naught. We have a large enough sample size to indicate that he's not going to do that. In fact he just doubled down on his outdated philosophy a few days ago. -

My problems with this approach are: A) it has proven to fail way more than proven to succeed B) it's not sustainable. Let's say you defy the odds one year and are successful. Your odds drop exponentially to do this year in and year out. College roster needs to have a core of players in which to add pieces to imo. -

The foundation of the program is eroding quickly and you don't repair it by just hoping it fixes itself. Keeping Woodson is not only hoping it fixes itself but letting the guy that cracked it to begin with be the one to over see it. If you think that Woodson staying another year is in anyway beneficial to the long term health of the program you are (stealing a quote from Scott Coffield) "either lying or stupid". -

You are in denial and that's OK. Truth is he's coming back unless someone gets through to him that it's in his best interest not to. That's the gist of it I'm afraid. Even if he does leave our admin will probably hire the 1984 US Women's Gymnastics coach. -
