IUBB @ Iowa - Saturday, 01.11.25 @ 8:00 ET on Fox-TV

What’s frustrating and impacts our metrics with Woodson is that we’re not close in so many of these losses. If we could just keep it close and show fight but this has another double digit loss written all over it. And we’re losing to mediocre teams like Nebraska and now likely Iowa -

His loss may be a blessing in disguise with getting to play a smaller lineup. With that said, we will need Malik back and hope for him to get healthy, but should back up Ballo and become a more willing passer. -

I expect to lose this game. Win it, and we might be turning the corner. -
Rutgers is awful. Just a bunch of low major players outside of Harper and Bailey. Serious question…are they even going to make the BTT?

With Reneau out, it's not a coincidence this team is playing better. I'm not saying Reneau isn't talented but you have to be a fit. He needs to come off the bench for Ballo. -

Carlyle cannot play. He’s detrimental when he’s on the court. Give Leal his minutes. -

Davis' last year we made it in as a 6th seed and lost in the Rd of 32 to Gonzaga after beating SDSU in the first round. I still remember that SDSU game, Robert Vaden made a clutch three to seal the game. That was another talented team but we had lost DJ White with a broken foot. That 2005-2006 team started to play better when Davis announced he was resigning at the end of the season in February. This seemingly ended the distraction of his uncertainty and players all rallied around him each other to finish the season on a strong note. Davis was also well liked, so it's not surprising the team wanted to rally behind him. Robert Vaden followed him to UAB and I think there was a time that we weren't sure if DJ was going to stay either...of course he stayed which set the tone for an incredible 1-2 punch between him and Gordon a couple of years later. BTW - Gordon was at the PSU game and spoke to the team after. -

Fair point. To further your point of finishing 2nd in the Big Ten, it was widely considered among everyone (fans and analysts) that a top 4 seed and 2nd weekend trip to the NCAA's was and is the goal for this team...anything less is a failure with the talent. If Woodson' sneaks into the tournament...Will people soon forget our preseason goals and claim Woodson did an amazing job getting this team into the tournament despite the preseason predictions and goals of being a top 4 seed / 2nd weekend team? -

I think we're so used to getting spanked on the road to average teams that yesterday was a refresher. Lets see if we can win at Iowa - another very average team. -
Penn St. vs Indiana, Sunday, 1/5, Noon, BTN, Palestra in Philly

Everyone sees it the same thing. Undoubtedly, Woodson’s subbing have cost us at least a 1/2 to a dozen games in his tenure and have greatly impacted our NET and metrics exponentially as a negative mainly by not beating mid majors by wider margins and getting absolutely smoked by good teams. We might be 12-3 but our net ranking is not good. Even after yesterday’s win, we’re still in the uppers 50s. margin of victory and defeat is a big reason for this…it’s part of the reason (among tougher schedules) other teams have worse records but much higher NETS. They win soundly and lose closely. Back to the lineup combos…certainly, his Staff sees this…no? But it continues to happen. Anyways, yesterday was a good win (Mgbako and Ballo played awesome) but almost lost when the 2nd unit came in. Stick to an 8 man rotation and If you have to go deeper due to foul trouble, stagger the subbing. -

Give Leal Carlyle’s minutes.. Maybe Carlyle can work his way out of this…but he could just be a bad player. Time will tell…but to date, he’s shown nothing of the player he was touted to be. -

Maybe new shoes. Rice has been a shot maker. The question is Carlyle…clearly over hyped. Dude needs to sit on the bench and be behind Leal at this point. -

Yes. We are clearly better with 1 big…I hope Woodson sees this. When MR is back, he needs to come off the bench. -

Took care of business. Win Sunday to build momentum. We are clearly better playing 1 big. Reneau should come off bench when healthy. -

Another problem with Woodson is that he treats this like it's the NBA. it's widely known that his assistants do all the recruiting for him and are the ones that put in the work to get them on campus. Of course, NIL was a big player this year. It's like free agency. Woodson has these player recruited and signed for him, and his main job is coaching...well there's a lot more than coaching in the college world. I believe it's another reason why our team can be so lazy or lackadaisical -- they take it from Woodson...and let's be honest, Woodson isn't busting his @$$ out there.. -

They probably picked IU because we threw the most money at them. In reality, outside of maybe a couple of players, I don't think many of these guys care about Indiana like we do...at least they don't play like it. I would love to be proved wrong about this...but laughing on the bench up 3 against Winthrop doesn't quell this thinking. One can only hope, they prove us wrong. -

I agree and lets hope it follows this way. It's best for both parties. I think the choice will be on Woodson which way he wants this to go based on his actions after. -

That's the question, when and if IU makes a move on Woodson...will he go out quietly? Remember, he has self anointed himself "The King of Indiana." -

IDK...I think you're halfway joking here but Carlyle looks like a major whiff on the scouting end. Certainly not as talented as he was made out to be, and that's from eye test alone...and I don't think it's going to take "a snap of the finger" and all of a sudden he's going to be the player he was touted to be. Maybe he can be, but it's going to take dedication and long hours....and unfortunately, we always seem to hear or think a player or multiple players are going to be really good...more often than not, it doesn't turn out to be that way. Maybe the Bloomington night life plays a roll... see Ballo. -

Cliff seems like a nice guy but at some point one has to wonder what is going on with the weight lifting program. His background is in football. Is he using the same workout techniques and training that he did when he worked for the Bengals? As we know, basketball is much different than football. Since he’s taken over, we’ve not had 1 single good shooting team and this is his 8th year at the helm. I mean, some of these shots are just pure bricks…some of our shooters we recruited in high school were regarded as sharp shooters, see Damezi Anderson and Gabe Cupps, but they’re not good shooters in college. I think of Luke Goode this year…he was almost a career 40% 3 point shooter at Illinois. He transfers over here and all of a sudden he can’t hit the broad side of a barn as seen yesterday. Now I’m not accusing Marshall of being the sole reason of 8 years of poor bad shooting, but one has to wonder if there is some sort of correlation to his weight lifting program and our shooting…and it’s a fair thought to think. 8 years…of god awful shooting — with two different staffs — all with Cliff leading our workouts is beginning to look suspect. I remember 4 years ago this exact thing was mentioned about Marshall and I thought it was ridiculous. Well, 4 years later and a different coaching staff, it’s seemingly becoming plausible.
