Trayce Jackson-Davis Announces Return to Indiana Basketball (QUOTES IN OP)
iu eyedoc replied to Trish's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I would love to see another year of Lander, but he and IU really need a strong shooting coach. Lander's jab jumper with no follow through was just awful form to watch. He looked like a nervous middle schooler that shows up at the rec and has to end up playing with the starting HS team. -

If it for a player to announce he is staying right where he is at, then eye roll emoji. If CMW and staff wants to create some positive portal energy, I can get with it. -

That was the Porter Moser long non denial response. When Moser said it, I was like, "Oh sh1t he has already been offered the job!" Thankfully it was more him hoping for some call. With Lewis, it is obvious he has received or would relish the opportunity to consider the IU job. -

Hopefuly CMW isn't that old guy that calls someone the wrong name and never can get it right after calling him Tracy earlier this week. -

Looks like he has a head for basketball. -
I think it is a paper thin argument that parents and recruits will see through. He easily walks in and says, " I hear that other coaches are saying I may leave UT. Well, I was a born, raised Longhorn fan and graduated from UT. I had to journey to get back but I am home." Then he pulls up his shirt and shows him his Longhorn tramp stamp and waves a hook'em Horns. Done deal.
-
Not sure saying "do you want to play for a guy that has been so successful with his players and style that NBA teams are interested and that he man leave before you graduate or go pro?" is a good angle. Anywhere else than UT and I think that that could be used against him, but UT is his destination school. It would be like recruiting against Roy Williams a few years back and saying he left UK for UNC, are you sure he won't bolt from UNC. It was known that UNC was his Everest, much like UT is Beards.

Meh, no one is going to say are you really going to send your kid to play for a guy that left McMurry for Angelo St, or UALR for TT. His moves have all been upward and he is now at his Woodson's IU. He is locked in and will be there for 20yrs if he is successful. 2012–2013 McMurry 2013–2015 Angelo State 2015–2016 Little Rock 2016–2021 Texas Tech 2021–present Texas

IMHO, a 1 time no sit transfer with unlimited ability to transfer when HC change would be fair. I think the NCAA, sees and likes the offseason interest that this is creating, like NFL free agency, and likes the buzz, but this seasons free for all is ridiculous. They also should create a small window, say for 1 month after the FF that a player can no sit transfer. Over 20 P6 schools have 5 players in the portal(4 in the B1G), some smaller schools have 10+ players. As it is constituted this season, the transfer portal, is unsustainable.

These players get sunshine shined up their ***** 24/7 by recruiters. Someone saying you have got a nice game but to get to where you want to go you will need to work on x,y, and z should be refreshing. If it is true, which why would a HC or anyone say it if it wasn't and it is taken negatively to the point of dropping IU as an option so be it. I say that would be a mistake averted.

Loved me some Jadlow full court press break back in my day.

He would bring down the average age of the coaching and BO staff, so that is a positive. -
Just an aside, I find it interesting that typically the people complaining about the players conduct are the strongest advocates for a coach that acted with arguably the worst conduct of any coach in the history of college basketball. It's an interesting dichotomy.

They were 4 when Brad Stevens last coached in college, sooo...
-
Dude didn't want to be here. he was offered significantly more money and said no. I don't give a shilt where he coaches if it isn't IU. Actually, it would be a bit gratifying to see him go there and be just average.

Wasn't this the same argument of having to wait on a season to be done for the HC hire? It may be true but I don't think it is a indicator of much. Other than BTB's desire, I don't think their is much reason to rush. He has recruiters in place, most the team seems to be returning and they have put out feelers to almost every hot target in the portal. -
Mike Woodson to be next IUBB coach. Thad Matta to be associate AD

Breaking News on the IU basketball program. It has become a dumpster fire. -
Interesting statement. After reading, I was expecting to see a lot of flexing and taunting stares in his HL video, but he seemed strangely reserved. Definitely something IU doesn't have at the PG position, but with RF and likely KL returning, adding a 3rd PG would put someone out of some serious minutes.

It seems you want to create questions where there are none. No system in place to be an elite recruiter. Just retained elite recruiter Kenya Hunter. Has access to WWW, Thad Matta, and all of his NBA connections. How is this different than had 8 yrs out of the NCAA Brad Stevens taken the job? Players will have to just trust him because he can’t point to prior success. He took a Hawks team that finished 5th of 8 and had below a .400 winning % and increased the win total evry year he was coach resulting in back to back 2nd place finishes and peaking at a .646 % and 53 wins. The Hawks have only reached over 48 wins and a better win % once in 11 years since he was fired. With the NYK, he took them to a 1st place finish and 54 wins in his 2nd season. That was the only 1st place finish since 1994 and hasn't been matched since he was fired. By contrast, Brad Stevens took over a Celtics team that had finished 1st 5 of 6 seasons before he was hired and has grossly under-performed with a decreasing winning % the last 4 seasons at a current career low of .489. Even the end of his college coaching career was down a bit from his early success. Not saying I didn't want BS, because I did, but even his allure was based on success 10+ yrs ago in what was a different college game, exclude that, which seems to amount to ancient history by those crowing about Matta's 4 year absence, and you have a guy that has been a middling NBA coach that hasn't recruited in 8 yrs and missed the tourney and lost in the second rnd. Outside of his 2 NCAA tourney runs he is a successful mid major coach that lost in the 2nd rnd, lost in the first rnd, missed the tourney, lost in the 2nd rnd. Again, I certainly wanted him, but he just as easily could be a guy that has made bank based on 2 back to back Cinderella runs, his career otherwise in those 11 of 13 seasons both NCAA and NBA has been very good to even bad any given yr. -

Maybe Larry is just there to score them some victory weed until Thad's medical marijuana card is approved. In the above photo I believe he is signalling he needs 6 dime bag to his dealer in the stands. Hand signalling was much more crude and rudimentary in the 1970's -

Scholarships have always technically been year to year, but to yank a player in good standing's scholarship when he didn't agree to leave would be committing recruiting suicide. -

If you are talking about the commitment to pay for any players 4 yr education even after they have left the school, that's true. The interesting dynamic is how it would play out and the optics if a player said I am taking myself out of the portal and Woodson said, not so fast.
