Mike Woodson to be next IUBB coach. Thad Matta to be associate AD
iu eyedoc replied to iubb's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
So as an IU guy in the transfer portal. You hear that an ex-Hoosier, which has 25 yrs of NBA coaching experience and a HOF level college coach is now ADBO replacing your failed previous mid major HC, how is this not a positive that you come Racing back to? Pun intended -

As to #3 I agree to a degree. IU is a lot of expectations with little positive momentum making it less attractive, but I think the days of UK, Duke, UNC just plucking anyone are gone. Does Beard take Duke over Texas? Does Oates leave Bama for UNC? I don't thik so. The money at these programs will be there to retain a good coach. Name me a coach that left a successful P5 program for a blueblood without connection in the last 2 decades. -

Maybe they wanted to let them self purge the program, Self-Creaning is the new thing. -

Not in homes and not formally, but he sure as hell will have back channels with coaches that will be solid gold. -

So, the biggest problem I see with Mike Woodson is that he has never recrui... What's that? Thad Matta? The guy that ripped the heart of Indiana talent to Colombus, that Thad Matta? He is going to be what? Nevermind. -

Reposting this for some prospective on CMW's NBA success: Someone give me some context for the Woodson hate. He is a well respected, defensive minded coach that, by the player interviews posted on here seems to hold players( even NBA players) accountable. His record as the Hawks HC overall was mediocre, but the team improved every year to the point of 53-29 in his last season. As Knicks HC, he coached them to their only 1st place finish in the Atlantic division since 1993 and most , wins since 1994. HeII, his 37 wins in his 2nd season are more wins than any NYK team he didn't coach since 2003. He isn't my first choice, but it seems that a lot of dislike for him, much like like for others is just a lot of posters parroting others. I get he would need some strong recruiters, but I don't see the reason for all the angst towards him as HC If I am wrong, I don't watch NBA, so I might well be, please point to what I am missing. -
Candidate Thread: Porter Moser
iu eyedoc replied to Henryville Hoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I really like his answer, I just want that answer to becoming from Stevens, Wright, Bennett, Oats, or Drew. -
I imagine he and UT are like high school sweethearts coming off their first marriages just waiting on the prices to go down on the plane tickets to hawaii in 4 days. There is no doubt about either ones intentions.

Bama works on a completely different scale than IU. IU will not get Oats, because Bama fails to match any offer. That is 100% not going to happen. The couching staff budget was $65M in 2019, 50% more than IU. Do you think they blink about going up to $68M?
-
His buyout drops from $5M to $4M for in conference and from $2.5M to $2M for out of conference April 1st.

There is a difference to this process then all those since BK. There is resolve from SD to big donors that it is high time to get this ship righted. They may end up with an unknown quantity as the hire, but it won't be for lacking effort or resources to go for marlin instead of bluegill.
-
How so? They are going to hire someone with the idea and intent that he is better than the worst coach at IU in 50 years, not a high bar to surpass. What makes picking a guy next year any better than this year? The only difference is saving a donor $7M, which they felt was better spent on buying Miller out than seeing another year of CAM basketball. Oh, and I would like to sincerely thank that Donor.

I think the problem lies in that I doubt any of these candidates would bring it up with an AD while on a tournament run. I think you let your agent work things out, then after the season ends for you, you either announce your departure or take the offer to your current AD to secure a raise. So , any deal could go south before it is actually announced and then SD could be on to option #3+. Funny thing is Mike Davis did stump for a raise, complaining about his pay at a tourney presser just a year after being given the job. I thought it was in very poor taste, but it worked out for him, as he shortly after showed how bad of a coach he really was, but had already locked himself in for 4 more yrs.

at 67-58, 12-15 last season and 9th, 10th, and 10th finishes in the B1G the last 3 years, I think you do make a move just for the sake of making a move.
-
That deal would be done and announced. If an asst coach gets a huge HC gig: 1) it isn't beyond SOP to announce and continue to asst until seasons end. 2) it also wouldn't be wrong to just step down for a huge promotion and pay raise. 3) as a 1st time HC it would be crucial to keep current players, so either #1 or #2 would have already happened. If any asst coach, NCAA or NBA, or other available coach ends up with the job it will be strictly because the currently unavailable target says no.

Izzo was hired as an up and comer and has won or shared 3 of the last 4 B1G titles. Not sure how he doesn't count. Too successful for too long? Throw in Thad Matta and Matt Painter.

Well let's see Tom Izzo Chris Holtzman Juwan Howard

Candidate Thread: Chris Beard (Texas Tech)
iu eyedoc replied to Hovadipo's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Chris Beard announces his resignation from TT and that he is heading home to Texas in 3...2...1. Told his buy out drops by $1M in 5 days, the University of Texas scoffs and asks for you to hold it's beer. -

Oddly similar as him to the Hoosiers. -

My two favorite teams Chicago Bears and IU basketball. Bears fans still think they are getting Russell Wilson IU fans still think they are getting Brad Stevens. Not sure which group is in greater denial. Just looked Vegas has it at: IU fans +700 Bears fans +550 -
If you ask Musselman he will bring a line of bricks and 3 cardboard cutouts of Indycars to explain it to you.

#3 is definitely one of the visuals Musselman uses with his player. "Hey...Hey...Bring that mawnkey on a dawg op here. Fellas, we gotta ride this dawg for 40 minute. Just like this cute mawnkey is riding this dawg. Do you see that."
