I just keep going back to the fact that if you're Fred Glass you don't fire Tom Crean without someone in the bag already. You can't just go firing a guy that has won the B1G 2 years in the very recent past and made it to 3 SS's if you don't have what you think is a slam dunk hire. If I remember correctly, when Crean was hired we used a search committee and they were very public about the fact they were interviewing a lot of coaches. Now it's just to help "cross the 't's and dot the 'i's? With that said, I have faith that we will (as a majority) be happy with our next coach. They don't want controversy, players leaving, multiple "rebuilding" years, etc. Quite possibly the reason Crean was retained 2 years ago was simply the fact that the one they wanted wasn't available yet and now he is. And as I see it that can only be one person... Billy Hoyle.

They'll change that stance if he takes them deep into the tourney. All that matters is winning baby!

Which was a bold move on his part because if they do swing for the fence and have to "settle" then it looks really bad on our blue blood self image.

In this situation a helicopter is probably the mode of transportation.

Not saying that I want it to happen, but Randy Wittman also pretty much checks off all of the boxes that Glass mentioned in the presser. IU player, national championship, NBA coach, etc. For that matter, Keith Smart too.

FWIW, In OG's case, he's not going to be able to run the combine so if he's hearing the right things he could make an announcement today.

Just going to throw this out there... Steve Alford's UCLA team has a TOTAL of 9 turnovers in the tournament so far after only giving up the ball 3 times last night in a game that they scored 79 pts.

Holtmann post game comments... “I’ve got a lot of respect for Tom, and I’ve got a lot of respect for how his team plays,” Holtmann said. “I (also) had a close friend lose a job not too long ago at Illinois. “We all get into this knowing the deal. Do I disagree with those decisions? Absolutely. Absolutely I do. Am I biased? Do I disagree with the decision at Illinois? Absolutely. They don’t care, but I know hard that guy works and how committed he was to his players and that he was really close to turning a corner. “Everyone wants to be (in the NCAA Tournament). And when you’re not here, people get upset.”

What's the problem with cutting future ties with Crean AND allowing him to coach out the rest of the season? It'd be a good way for the players to say goodbye to someone they do like and respect a great deal.

Has anyone heard any rumors of IU assistant coaches being looked at by other programs? Might be a good indicator of things to come if there have been.

I remember when IU's "off years" were a nine seed. Sounds like changes are coming and it's more of a when not if sorta thing.
