It’s an interesting dynamic. Ware wants to be a rangy 5 but more of a stretch 4. He’s too slow and is getting beat on the perimeter and gets pushed around inside. He’s got to develop quickness and relentlessness. Malik wants to be a 4 for the NBA. He may be developing those skills but he’s NOT ready to guard most 4’s yet much less anything in the perimeter. Combine this with our nonexistent wings…

He’s on the same level as Walker, Banks, Gunn. Right now we have 4 wings just taking up space. and I’m not Malik and Ware work together.

I’m surprised we didn’t just kick the field goal in first down. Yikes.

I will say the benefit to finding a coach coming to Iufb is the situation is vastly different than basketball. Some coaches may be hesitant because expectations are high for basketball ie firing CTC after being barely removed from a B10 championship. Whereas football, EVERY SINGLE PERSON with eyeballs sees the current product and situation and recognizes the dumpster fire. Success for an IU football coach is not abusing players, having drunk run-ins with RAs, and going to the Preparation H bowl every other year.

What are your thoughts on some “gimmick” style? With the unrealistic future of IU ever being perennial B10 champs, maybe explore some ideas to make IU unique? Like some crazy weird offense—like a vintage Oregon or crazy air raid? Even though the wins didn’t come with Wilson, those teams were fun to watch slinging it around the field. Id be over the moon with bowl games 75% of the time with a crazy offense where we score 49 points a game but defensively allow 56. Just a thought.

As much as I love the idea of an in-house hire, aren’t we then setting ourselves up for a mediocre ceiling? The cards 100% stacked against us. There is no tradition to build on, facilities are mediocre and getting bigger, maybe a decent NIL program but how much would football take away from iubb. If money can be spent on a proven coach, let’s do it. If the reality of the situation is we’ll HAVE to pay inexperience and unproven, at what point does the cost of a buyout become untenable? This is a really tough situation for the athletic department.

We’d win a lot of games if the other team couldn’t adjust to what we did and weren’t allowed to adjust to what our defense was doing. Basically if we didn’t rely on coaching, we’d win more games.

Honestly the most difficult part is a replacement. There’s a reason the OC is who we have. No one wanted to come in and be a part of this. The likelihood of luring someone who is able to make a difference is not great. I don’t mean “difference” as they’d be the same as current circumstances—rather an improvement to our usual 4-8. How do you lure a big name coach with the deck stacked against them? And if someone comes in and kills it, there’s no way they wouldn’t be poached when a big opening is in play. Football is such a different animal for most of us. Small sample sizes with shorter seasons where talent is 90% and scheme is 10%. I’d be happy if the team didn’t look like it was cobbled together with mid-tier size and speed with a couple of decent players here and there. I don’t mean to trash our players either—I don’t lay the blame on them. I do question their motives in coming to play for IU sometimes…

Can’t wait to see the 60 and 70 year olds he recruits on the court next year. I’m al for giving him support and a chance but sure seems like Dolson kept this in the old boys club after Stevens turned him down. Either Stevens led him on, Dolson drank the kool-aid without getting anything solid, or he rolled the dice with this as his backup plan all along.

It would appear my theory of how the Brad convo went down was correct. The Celtics must have said something after the meeting that ultimately dissuaded Brad from taking the job. Sucks. But is what it is. Also if I dropped 10 mil for Woodson I’m not sure how I feel about that...

For the Celtics to make headway in the East, they have to have size. They’ll get eaten by the top teams and there’s no sign that is changing. This possibility of signing Drummond represents a last gasp for them to still do well this year. They’ll still likely make the playoffs barring injury. Most likely a first round out in the playoffs, possible second round. Def won’t make the conference finals. For as much love they have for their wings, they aren’t helping them out. BS would of course know all this which is why he’s done dealing with Ainge and has decided to work for Dolson...
