2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves
seihoosier replied to CrossboneIU22's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Still think we’re gonna regret not recruiting Sean East. I’d rather have an Indiana boy with heart than some of these others we’ve gotten or missed on. Look at Ryan Cline at PU. It is what it is. Need a shooter, he’s a shooter. Need a back up PG, that he is. Need a slasher and finished, that he is. Time will tell. -
Look no further for how messed up the NCAA is than a DIII school having a banner taken away for "looking out for the well being of a player after injury". We're not talking about thousands of dollars or caught on an FBI wiretap or paid for hookers for recruits and current players. Or housing expectations from Zion's dad. No a player that had knee surgery to keep her from going up and down steps and having her stay until recuperated. Moss lived cost-free with a former part-time assistant coach, Jerry Allen, while recuperating from March 2014 knee surgery. The housing arrangement - ruled an impermissible extra benefit by the NCAA - started in April 2014 and continued for the rest of the calendar year, according to the NCAA report. According to the NCAA report, Moss lived alone in an upstairs, off-campus apartment and both she and Allen "had concerns about her physical limitations [after surgery]. They were also worried about the safety of the neighborhood." Moss' mother stayed with her for about a week, and Moss stayed briefly with a friend before returning to her apartment, the NCAA report says. Then she moved into Allen's house. https://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/kenton-county/crestview-hills/ncaa-imposes-penalties-on-thomas-more-college-womens-basketball-program

2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves

I’m really surprised that there isn’t much mention of Sean East. I watched him play several times in HS with Romeo and each time came away more impressed. He had great court vision, handle the ball really well and has a good left stroke from 3. He might be a slighter frame, but a kid who has to work his tail off and feels under valued, plays with a chip on their shoulder. That’s the kind of kid I want on my team. Much like a Tom Coverdale was as IU, the kid most overlooked, but had that never quit attitude. Some things aren’t measured by size and speed, it’s attitude and heart. Think he’d be a great asset and one we’ll regret not taking a risk on. Anyone else surprised there’s no mention?? Great pub on the kids season at Combine, love the work ethic https://www.ncsasports.org/mens-basketball-recruiting/indiana/new-albany/new-albany-senior-high-school/sean-east2 https://www.newsandtribune.com/sports/what-s-next-for-former-new-albany-star-sean-east/article_eb91fd4c-45b2-11e9-874e-e36ccd89452b.html -
Same thoughts with Archie. Take away EE flash in pan and would anyone even care? Nope. No home run hire outside of Stevens or Donovan. After that you have to look at someone who's been to a FF minimum or several EE's and been very successful in season. Won conf a few times, pushed close to 30 wins and been consistent with no 7th, 8th, or 10th place finishes 3 out of 4 like our previous. There are only a few that fit that bill. Bennett or Marshall. After that Glass statements don't fit anyone else's resume. If someone lower is introduced then we got turned down, plain and simple.
-
Let's hope it stays that way.
-
That would be a relief!
-
Roy Williams denied it too and introduced with UNC a few days later. I won't buy anything until the new coach is introduced.
-
At least it wouldn't be Alford. Bennett would be one of those top 5 coaches out there and is better than a mid major like Archie. He's In a top 3 conf. Has proven he's no fluke. IU alone would bring him those top 40 players and that would make a HUGE diff in offensive performance. We would play great D and be in all games. @47 yrs old, he's got 15-20. However, watching Florida, White might be that next great coach and has proven way more than Archie and other mid majors. Not enough exp tho for my liking. Is this a product of half Donovan's old team?
-
Do potential coaches actually visit the campus / facilities of the future employer? I'm leaning towards no. Thus rendering the flight tracking useless. Unless of course you're solely tracking Parker planes?
-
With no Stevens likely and Donovan a low probability............those are my top 3. Not necessarily in that order, but those 3. Experience, High win percentage, and no infractions.
-
Brian Gregory, only one I can think of. Just got hired at South Florida?? He has not been very good either. Has managed to go from Dayton to GA Tech(fired) and now SF
-
Exactly. Marshall, Mike White, Holtmann, Mack - all find ways to elevate their team. Alford's teams were always mediocre and lose to teams they shouldn't, just like Crean. Just say NO to Alford.
-
He played for Jim Crews. Rumored he was dismissed from the team after hitting on Crews wife. So there's your IU connection.
-
Alford doesn't do any either. Delegates it all to his assistants.
-
Exactly my point. To that same point, just because Donovan has 2 NCAA rings doesn't mean he'll get a third, but we'd all be DARN happy seeing him announced as the new coach, now wouldn't we?
-
DeCourcy's article hits it on the head for why we DON'T NEED Alford. The last couple paragraphs Since 1980, 37 NCAA championships have been decided; only five were won by coaches working at their alma maters. Which means 86.5 percent of championship coaches arrived with little or no connection to the college hiring them. It would be an entirely different college basketball world if John Calipari were the coach at Clarion, Mike Krzyzewski were coaching Army and Beilein worked his offensive magic at Wheeling College. This is rather an absurd scenario, of course, but that is the logical extension of hiring a head basketball coach primarily because of where he attended college. But Wheeling would have a hell of a team.
-
Wow. Marshall stands out in that list. Too bad his wife stood out Sunday.
-
Honest to God he was in Orlando on Thursday evening. I have a good friend who ran into him in the lobby of a hotel down there and talked to him. So yeah, it could be.
-
Name a former alum who was a college all american or stud for his college team that returned to their alma mater and wasn't fire in 5 years? Roy W only played on the UNC JV team. Alford will not succeed. I'll gladly eat crow if he's hired and does extremely well. Just don't see it happening.
-
To his credit, that brawl was a one time thing early in his career. Not happened since. No real excusing it, but still.
-
Fife played in a title game. Fife played major college ball. Fife is top assistant or appears to be with a coach we've all expressed we'd love to had for years. Get he's young, but if he surrounded himself with the proper assistants, it's not all that far fetched. Crean didn't scratch hardly any playing time in high school, let alone college. I'm not buying Crean learned anything from Izzo. Either way, it'd be an awfully big jump for an assistant and not fit any of Glass's criteria. That said, name a former alum that has returned to his school and actually succeeded in recent years? Roy Williams excluded.
-
Agree with Fife over Alford. Marshall has a crazy drunk wife, but who can't like a lady willing to give all heck to UK fans. lol - her actions Sunday, would make me question Marshall as a candidate. We don't need that drama.
-
Live near Cincinnati, know plenty of UC fans. They have been about as happy with Mick as we have of Crean. Hard pass. Those little mid major Shockers are hanging with the mighty Cats. That Marshall guy might not be a half bad coach.
-
He's abusive? I'd venture to say "abusive" relates to players. He was defending his players in that video. Is that a normal occurrence? Or an isolated one? I imagine Donovan whipped his misbehaving 5 year old's butt before, he must be abusive. Next

What did Glass say that eliminates Marshall? He's been to a Final Four. He's been dominant in both leagues he's coached in. You can say Crean went to a Final Four. Yes he did, but he also never dominated his league. In fact he never won a conference title with Marquette without D Wade. Never finished above 3rd without D Wade. Marshall on the flip side though he's been in the lesser MVC, his teams have beaten multiple top 5 power schools just about every season in the pre-conf. Heck, he played better pre-conf schools than IU did under Crean. So it wasn't like they were beating up on cupcakes to pile up wins. I get Marshall has that scary factor because he's not been at a major conference yet. Neither did Jay Wright, John Calipari, Brad Stevens, or Billy D before they made it big at their first stop in a power 5 conference. He's basically the same age as Donovan, 3 years old. They guy also speaks his mind and has a big time edge to him. He doesn't stand on the sidelines and shuffle papers or pace the sidelines and clap like a cheerleader. Either way, Donovan, Stevens, Bennett, Marshall - will be thrilled with any of those. For all those who argue for Archie Miller, give me 5 reasons his 6 seasons at Dayton are better than Marshall? Don't get the love of Miller over a proven commodity like Marshall. Age isn't a factor. If Miller is hired and fails at IU, his age doesn't matter one bit.
