This is what I'm afraid of.
-
Sh!t man, Dolson can call me and I'd do the search for half the price.
-
That's pretty much Iowa's mantra. It's been that way for a quarter century.
-
I think that depends on a number of factors. But if all things are at status quo, I'm not sure that's even the ceiling. A lot of things need to change from top to bottom. Yesterday was a start by letting TA go.

Here's the thing though, even throwing all the money in the world at it doesn't guarantee or raise your chances of success. The most consistent thing about IUFB is how incredibly bad it's been throughout its entire history. Case in point, Mallory is considered one of the best coaches IUFB has ever had. Dolson could hire Jesus Christ himself and even he could struggle with this program. If anything, whoever is the next coach at IUFB will more than likely be fired due to lack of winning, just like every other IUFB coach throughout its entire history. Because history says so. The most logical thing to do however, is hiring someone that has a proven record. Someone that has had success at not only winning but has experience at building a culture of winning. It takes someone and a backing to start that culture. Unfortunately trying to hire someone like this is a giant mountain to climb because these kind of people know right away if the job is right for them. It's a two way street and these people know how to ask the right questions during the interview process. They know right away if they'll have the backing they'll need to build that culture. That's why I still think we'll end up with a coordinator when this is all said and done. And if that's the case, hopefully we end up hiring the next Barry Alvarez.

Admittedly I didn't read the details but I thought I saw Fritz on his updated list. https://twitter.com/ZachOsterman/status/1729170516278493403?t=W_w2Z9_Ki8tjX7qlleAkZA&s=19

Personally, I think Mallory's resume was better, but that's just my personal opinion.
-
I would also throw in Bill Mallory.
-
I just read that Willie Fritz is on Osterman's list. So I would hope so.
-
Honestly surprised that Curt Cignetti isn't on the list of names being thrown around. Considering all the other names, I would have thought he would have been mentioned.
-
Atta boy Dolson.
-
Exactly, I think I made my point that age doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
-
I completely understand your point, but saying a coaches age is a factor for recruiting is probably very low on a recruits list. From a personal experience, it wasn't even on my list.
-
I don't buy the too old argument. If Nick Saban today said he's interested in the IUFB job, y'all would be rolling the crimson carpet for a 71 year old coach.
-
Thanks for the blood sweat and tears CTA. Appreciate those awesome two seasons.
-
Please hire someone who has an exceptional HC program building resume. Please please please.
-
Yes. It'll be his team to build. IU used to be known as smash mouth during the Mallory days. A team's identity is all about the HC, not the institution. Program builders turn the identity into an institution and IUFB has never truly had program builders.
-
Is Osterman just making a list like most of us or does he actually have an inside source helping him?
-
Buckle up. This should be a fun ride.

His entire 16 year HC career only had three losing seasons. He's had only two conference losing seasons, finished in the top half every other season (the majority being top 3). He's got lengthy experience as a HC. He was OC at one of the most prestigious college football programs in the country, one of those seasons being undefeated. And, most importantly, he knows the area, being from the Midwest. I think this would probably be one of the better resumes to ever coach at IUFB. I could be mistaken of course. But overall he's got a good resume and I'd be fine with this hire. Especially if he turns us around to consistently win six games a year and finish in the top half of the conference. Regarding his record at Miami, I'm assuming his non-conference schedules were against P5 opponents and give him a pass on those losses because I would assume he'll be able to bring in or develop P5 level talent. I briefly looked over a few of his past seasons and last year he beat Northwestern. That tells me if things are level with talent aka Jimmys and Joes he can hold his own. He wouldn't be my first choice or even second or third, but he's actually got a decent resume for IUFB standards.
-
I'm ok with a Chuck Martin hire. His resume is actually better then folks are giving him credit for and he's got Midwest roots. It's a kind of hire that tells me Dolson is taking it seriously. I'd prefer others, but I would certainly understand it.

What's a ridiculous amount? Chris mentioned the figures 7-9 million here. If any of that is true that makes me wonder if we could actually pull off landing someone currently coaching at a P5. I was just using Lance Leipold as an example, so keep that in mind. But he currently is getting paid 5 million a year. His buyout is 12.5 million. https://www.si.com/college/kansas/football/lance-leipold-contract-confirms-big-commitment-to-football-program If 7-9 million is actually being discussed that puts things in a completely different playing field. Or does it? I would think that would, unless of course I'm completely fooling myself about it. I mean these numbers would expand the coaching search, right? I'm trying to not get too excited about this and stay grounded. Because we're talking IUFB here.
-
Serious question here, do any of y'all think IUFB could land a coach already coaching in a P5? Someone like Lance Leipold?
-
Hopefully Dolson has had some time to rethink this. Especially after the whole Coach Prime dust settling. I don't think it's a good idea to bring past players of a program that is one of the worst in college football history. We need to get a coach with a track record and demands a culture of winning.
-
If any of this is even remotely true, I think we'll get some quality coaches to at least pick up the phone if Dolson calls. I've listed a few that I think would do wonders for the overall program in another thread. And my worry is the coaches I've listed probably wouldn't even consider a program like IUFB because of various reasons. All of this stuff you've listed being some reasons. This is very promising rumor information. I hope it's all serious and truth. Thanks for sharing.
