    Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

The Dude abides. Got to add Northwestern in there as well. Finding a DC/OC that has HC experience (ie Kalen DeBoer) would be preferred for me if I had any say in the matter, but I digress.

Would someone like Dickert (Also under the Bohl coaching tree) come to IU? I think the biggest hurdle we are going to have with coaches like him is that we are IUFB. I guy in his position can easily pass on a program like ours when he's already sitting pretty in the program he's currently coaching. But I do like the idea of landing a guy like him. I'm just not sure we have the persuasive power to do so. Personally, I don't think we'll land the vast majority of names already being thrown around in this thread just because IUFB is what it is. The saving grace we have is that we are in a conference that coaches want to coach. This should be interesting once the official coaching search begins. Looking forward to it actually.

    Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

I brought up his name here. He's also under the Bohl coaching tree. My thought was more of trying to land a coach that has had success (winning records) with more than one program and left their previous schools in good shape. That means, most likely the ages of this type of coach will be older than 45 and more likely in their 50s or 60s. For me it's about establishing a foundation. Will it work? Who knows, we're talking IUFB here.

I'd be happy with Curt Cignetti or Craig Bohl. I couldn't find the buyout numbers but both of their salaries are numbers that can be persuasive enough to entice them to sit at the table, in my opinion. And I would think both of them would like the chance to coach Big Ten football.

If it were up to me, I'd be looking at a "Kalen DeBoer" type model. Maybe look into successful head coaches in the FCS or lower levels. Matt Entz, Glenn Caruso, and Brent Vigen come to mind first and foremost. Maybe Drew Cronic. I'm sure there are plenty of others to look into. In the grand scheme of things, it's a pretty big pool to choose from. Regardless, IUFB will most likely be a stepping stone for any coach that is successful here. So for me, hiring a coach that has left a nice foundation of success in past jobs would be a big part of the hiring process. Someone like Craig Bohl?
  6. Man, the more I read the comments here the more I wonder why folks are putting poop in their mouths from this Taco Bell? LOL!

    They Fired Tom Allen!

If only this year's games were 15 minutes long! Some have already mentioned this but I will be very surprised if CTA is IUFB's head football coach next year. If he is then it lets everyone (coaches, recruits, fans, conference big wigs, media, etc. etc.) know Dolson gives zero poops about football. Folks are no longer interested this season and money is being lost for the program because of it. At this point, it's about dollars and 'sense'. Have him stick around for another year and lose more money (millions) in revenue or go ahead and make the business decision to take losses up front and hope with the right hire recoup those losses in a year or two. It's disappointing to say the least. I was watching the Washington game against ASU and noticed some familiar faces coaching on the sidelines and just shook my head. This wasn't the first time I've experienced it and it won't be the last. I'm an IUFB fan and this is how it works. We fans taste a small amount of success and that success moves on to bigger paychecks and better opportunity.

Historically, your expectations are a tad bit high for IUFB, but I think they are reasonable. I'd really enjoy this type of consistency for IUFB. I don't think IUFB will have issue bringing in coaches. The Big Ten is an attractive job to any coach climbing the ranks or trying to maintain the rank. You could even say that CTA's salary makes the job attractive and desired. It's not like they didn't reward him for two consecutive years of unprecedented success of the program. Stuhoo already touched upon the historical way it works for coaches at IUFB, unfortunately. Personally, I think the job could be a job desired if the athletic department shows some sort of commitment to the program in general. But historically, that's not what they have done.

IUFB is far from Premier. They're like a blind squirrel that finds a nut once in a while. If college football decides to go the route of a Premier League like structure, IUFB will be either at the 2nd or 3rd tier league. Most likely League One level (3rd tier) if we are all being honest with ourselves.

    They Fired Tom Allen!

Where have I said he shouldn't get pooped canned? Actually quite the contrary, but whatever. I'm just pointing out the reality of IUFB. Everyone is talking like we can get a coach like Saban, or whoever you desire, to come in here if we just throw money at him. That's not going to happen, ever. Or if it does, my remains will have already been scattered to the bosom of the pacific ocean here on Earth 1. I will gladly eat a large plate of crow if I'm wrong about hiring a 'real coach and staff' as you put it. But historically, that ain't happening. Allen is the type of coach that had it worked out, he doesn't get poached because we doesn't want to go anywhere. His stats are the best we've had in over 20 years! Those are, unfortunately, the facts. Being realistic about the state of things sometime just effin' sucks. Sorry to speak truth about IUFB. But someone needs to do it on here because this Earth 2 talk is not what's going on here on Earth 1. Aguas, same question I already asked, if, and it's a big if, this year's IUFB team goes bowling and wins said bowl; still want him gone? Follow up questions, if you still think he should go, what are your expectations for IUFB? Keep in mind these questions are here on Earth 1, not Earth 2. Realistic IUFB expectations.
  12. I'm watching it. If it gets out of hand I'll probably change it up.

An absolute delight watching him play last night.

    They Fired Tom Allen!

That's cool man. I really enjoyed those two seasons. They were beating teams that good teams are supposed to beat. Getting national attention. The defense was ranked in the top 20! It's a rarity for IUFB to accomplish that kind of stuff. For me, it was cloud nine seeing offenses struggle against the blitz packages etc. etc.. I really enjoyed Justin Fields getting exposed for his inability to handle the various types of blitz packages we threw at him. Cloud nine stuff for me, man. Cloud nine. But all of that doesn't matter because here we are in a thread titled Fire Tom Allen. Personally, I would have liked to see him succeed even more than he already did but I also know the overall history of the program. I also feel your frustrations with him. His loyalty to a coach drove me nuts! Because it ultimately might be the reason he's terminated. I am ok with whatever decision is made regarding his future. Honestly, I am.

Well, I'm glad you were at least entertained during the time IUFB won 8 games one year and finished ranked 16th overall in the country the other. That's all I was asking in the grand scheme of things. Regarding your ranking screenshots, football is a team game. What you're showing me is that BL and KW weren't balanced compared to TA. I'll say it again, CTA's winning record is better than the other two coaches you brought up here. But I certainly understand your preference with an offensive coach calling the shots.

THIS^^^^^^ I was more upset with #2's behavior during that game. The dude is a really good football player and his antics really weren't level headed. Heisman candidate to boot.

^Response to the question if #12 catches the overthrown ball (that you agree was overthrown) where does the safety end up. I'm confused. Because you imply the safety was pursing the ball, not the player, by your response to my question. I don't think anyone on here is saying he wasn't trying to make a hit. Quite the contrary actually. A lot of us just don't think it wasn't as bad as everyone is making out to be. Especially calling for a suspension of the player. We agree to disagree. Enjoy your night mate.

So, if the safety played to the ball, which we both agree he did, perhaps #12 letting up after the QB failed on the throw actually makes it looks worse than it was?

So you didn't enjoy watching the best offenses CTA ever had? I'm confused. Because you say that you prefer offensive type games. I would think you enjoyed those two years at least.

If the receiver actually catches the ball where it was thrown where does the safety end up?

Was the ball overthrown and did #12 slow up due to the ball being overthrown? Is the safety pursuing where the ball is going? After looking at this over and over, it's incredibly maddening that the QB even threw the ball in that direction. He's lucky the ball wasn't picked. All of this falls directly in the hands of the QB. Completely his fault from start to finish. Which resulted in injuring one of his most important players on the team. Also had the ball been placed in the basket, the safety might of not even gotten a hit on him. Because he looks like he might of been a tad bit late on the catch, if that even would have happened. But he was covered like a blanket so the catch probably doesn't happen, especially with the safety rolling in for help. Could the safety let up and try to avoid the hit? Probably. Hence the flag thrown. But there was nothing outrageously dirty about that hit. Like I said, these types of hits happen a lot and most of them don't get flags thrown.

Personally, I don't think it was dirty. Had #2 placed the ball in the basket we aren't talking about it. The pursuit was well timed, especially if #12 doesn't slow up. Most importantly, #12 was covered like a blanket and trying to throw into that coverage is ballsy. It didn't work and letting up on the play got him injured.

These hits happen a lot more then folks know. Safety had zero intentions going for the ball and every intention in either breaking up the catch or just flat out putting down the hammer. I know the mindset, I played the position. Since it was a rivalry game, putting down the hammer was probably #11's first and only option. LOL! His pursuit wasn't anything out of the ordinary and the hit was actually well timed, especially if #12 catches it. #2 overthrew the ball which makes the hit look like a cheap shot. Personally, I blame #2 for that hit and I find it kind of ironic that he ran down the field to start poop with the safety because it was his own mistake that caused the hit. Had this been any other game other than the current hype we aren't talking about it.

    They Fired Tom Allen!

Keep in mind, Tom Allen came in and vastly improved the defense to help give you some of those feelings you're talking about. I never felt like IUFB was ever in a game until Allen became the DC. Did you enjoy the games when Kalen DeBoer was the OC and Penix was healthy?

    They Fired Tom Allen!

That makes me understand you're point of view a lot more. Appreciate your response. Sounds like your wanting an offensive minded HC running the program. I'm just the opposite, I prefer a defensive mind, but that's just me. I enjoyed watching the later part of the KW era as well. It seemed like he was moving the program in the right direction. And those last two years you are talking about, his DC was Tom Allen. All those close games you're talking about was because of a defense that was able to make a stop here or there to keep them in the game. We were going to get our points, that was for sure. But I digress. Also, it sounds like you're open to instability of the job in general, just so long as the IU AD makes the next hire worth a darn. But regardless, playing in a worthwhile bowl is the overall expectation? Or have you changed on just playing in a bowl game? Or you don't really care about bowls, you just want to see a lights out offense on the field? Keep in mind, in the 136 year history, IUFB has reached a bowl only 13 times.
