My question was hypothetical and you are free to answer if you desire. If this year's IUFB team goes bowling and wins said bowl game; still want him gone?
-
My thoughts exactly. No coach that folks are wanting to replace CTA would ever think about working for a program that would do that. Not a single one.

Game Thread: IUFB vs Wisconsin Noon BTN
Lebowski replied to LIHoosier's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Going into today's game, they were good enough in the west division to play for the hardware. Yeah, not as good as UM, O$U, PSU, Maryland or Rutgers, but good enough to represent that weak ars division, nonetheless. Give some credit to a team that has been playing a lot better since the OC change. Something is going good for us here. -
I can't believe folks would want to let go a coach that takes IUFB to a bowl victory. Tough crowd.

Game Thread: IUFB vs Wisconsin Noon BTN

They were the team from the west division that would have played in the championship game. That's the team IUFB just beat. Wisconsin didn't execute and IUFB did. It's that simple. Credit to the Hoosiers and what kind of progress they have shown. They've been doing something right and we should give credit to the entire program. -

Big win for IUFB! They're playing better football the last couple games. -
They have played better the last two games and just beat a 5 win Wisconsin team. The remaining schedule at Illinois, MSU, at the school up north. All schools currently have 3 wins or less. So the question still stands. If, and it's a big if, this year's IUFB team goes bowling and wins said bowl; still want him gone?

Does anyone know if the Urban Meyer to MSU interwebs discussions have any legs?

IUFB: No Divisional Format Starting 2024
Lebowski replied to Lebowski's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
Eight home games! Wow, that's a lot. Another carrot for Dolson to hang during his interview process. I counted 3 wins for sure and depending on who's the coach next year, it could confidently be 5 wins with a couple more toss up games. Not seeing PSU feels like a break until you see Washington. Lol. The 2025 season looks way more promising. No UM, O$U, Washington, or SC on the schedule. https://bigten.org/news/2023/10/4/big-ten-conference-announces-future-football-schedule-formats-for-2024-28.aspx -
Thanks for the banners coach.

Assuming CTA isn't coming back next season here's a list of coaches that I would hope Dolson at least calls. Shawn Clark Jason Candle Jeff Traylor Jeff Tedford Craig Bohl Curt Cignetti Tom Herman All of these coaches might not (probably won't) even answer the phone call but Dolson would be foolish to not at least attempt conversations. I would feel good about any one of these coaches leading IUFB next season and it would tell me that Dolson is taking the program seriously. I'm also of the opinion that hiring any one of these coaches is no guarantees. Heck, IUFB could hire Belichick or Lombardi and still have sub par seasons. The program itself is what it is.

Swinney hasn't adjusted to the transfer portal. Dude is getting a dose of reality with what 90% of CFP coaches deal with on the regular basis. He could have easily avoided this season had he embrace the portal. His rant indicates he's digging in his heals about the portal. This mindset will most likely be the cause of his own problem.

I foresee college football cutting ties with conferences and creating their own 'league' or something. And IU probably won't be involved with that league. Conferences means a lot in other sports, the Big East is a great example.
-
Here's the thing though, assuming Fitz would even entertain coaching IUFB (because it's a two-way street of interest in the job and NW has had far more success than IU), how well does Dolson do with Fitz's interview? I think realistically we might actually be looking at some smaller school up and comer or assistant elsewhere. IUFB is what it is. I'd be shocked if someone like Fitz would be interested in coaching here.
-
I know I've already mentioned this but I can't emphasize this enough, we're talking IUFB here. Most of the coaches being discussed here probably aren't interested in coaching here. Even the coaches I've mentioned. It's unfortunate but that's just the reality of IUFB. It's been that way for its entire existence. That's also a reason I don't want to hire an IUFB guy. I'd feel different about it if our program was a little more stable and prestigious, LOL. I'd prefer we go a different route and hire an established coach with program building. But finding that type of coach that wants to coach here will be a giant up hill battle. We also don't have any confirmation or indication that IUFB will be searching for a new HC to lead next season. But if it does happen, Dolson will have his hands full trying to sell the program to potential candidates because not only is Dolson conducting the interviews but the interviewee is also interviewing him. An established program building coach will know right away if it's even worth his time. And I'm not sure Dolson is all in on IUFB. The most enticing carrot Dolson can hang is the conference this historically bad program plays in is a pretty big deal.
-
His brother, Frank Jr., is also a coach and is currently the OC and QB coach at Pitt. He's spent time in the NFL as well.
-
The Dude abides. Got to add Northwestern in there as well. Finding a DC/OC that has HC experience (ie Kalen DeBoer) would be preferred for me if I had any say in the matter, but I digress.

Would someone like Dickert (Also under the Bohl coaching tree) come to IU? I think the biggest hurdle we are going to have with coaches like him is that we are IUFB. I guy in his position can easily pass on a program like ours when he's already sitting pretty in the program he's currently coaching. But I do like the idea of landing a guy like him. I'm just not sure we have the persuasive power to do so. Personally, I don't think we'll land the vast majority of names already being thrown around in this thread just because IUFB is what it is. The saving grace we have is that we are in a conference that coaches want to coach. This should be interesting once the official coaching search begins. Looking forward to it actually.
-
I brought up his name here. He's also under the Bohl coaching tree. My thought was more of trying to land a coach that has had success (winning records) with more than one program and left their previous schools in good shape. That means, most likely the ages of this type of coach will be older than 45 and more likely in their 50s or 60s. For me it's about establishing a foundation. Will it work? Who knows, we're talking IUFB here.
-
I'd be happy with Curt Cignetti or Craig Bohl. I couldn't find the buyout numbers but both of their salaries are numbers that can be persuasive enough to entice them to sit at the table, in my opinion. And I would think both of them would like the chance to coach Big Ten football.
-
If it were up to me, I'd be looking at a "Kalen DeBoer" type model. Maybe look into successful head coaches in the FCS or lower levels. Matt Entz, Glenn Caruso, and Brent Vigen come to mind first and foremost. Maybe Drew Cronic. I'm sure there are plenty of others to look into. In the grand scheme of things, it's a pretty big pool to choose from. Regardless, IUFB will most likely be a stepping stone for any coach that is successful here. So for me, hiring a coach that has left a nice foundation of success in past jobs would be a big part of the hiring process. Someone like Craig Bohl?

Mgbako Arrested, Paying Small Fine for Misdemeanor
Lebowski replied to Jeff Flabjohns's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Man, the more I read the comments here the more I wonder why folks are putting poop in their mouths from this Taco Bell? LOL! -
If only this year's games were 15 minutes long! Some have already mentioned this but I will be very surprised if CTA is IUFB's head football coach next year. If he is then it lets everyone (coaches, recruits, fans, conference big wigs, media, etc. etc.) know Dolson gives zero poops about football. Folks are no longer interested this season and money is being lost for the program because of it. At this point, it's about dollars and 'sense'. Have him stick around for another year and lose more money (millions) in revenue or go ahead and make the business decision to take losses up front and hope with the right hire recoup those losses in a year or two. It's disappointing to say the least. I was watching the Washington game against ASU and noticed some familiar faces coaching on the sidelines and just shook my head. This wasn't the first time I've experienced it and it won't be the last. I'm an IUFB fan and this is how it works. We fans taste a small amount of success and that success moves on to bigger paychecks and better opportunity.

Game thread: IUFB at UMich - 12:00 on Fox
Lebowski replied to Stuhoo's topic in Indiana Hoosiers Football
How about that 1st quarter!!! -
Historically, your expectations are a tad bit high for IUFB, but I think they are reasonable. I'd really enjoy this type of consistency for IUFB. I don't think IUFB will have issue bringing in coaches. The Big Ten is an attractive job to any coach climbing the ranks or trying to maintain the rank. You could even say that CTA's salary makes the job attractive and desired. It's not like they didn't reward him for two consecutive years of unprecedented success of the program. Stuhoo already touched upon the historical way it works for coaches at IUFB, unfortunately. Personally, I think the job could be a job desired if the athletic department shows some sort of commitment to the program in general. But historically, that's not what they have done.
