There's some truth to what you're saying for sure. However, sitting at 62 of the top 100 is probably IU's most marketable player at the school and it was Adidas (Notice there's another IUBB player in that deal) that inked the deal to help him make the list. Also on the list sitting at 91 is this cat. I have no doubt if IUFB produces a product worth watching there would be IUFB players on this list. Especially if Heisman is being discussed regarding the player. I would imagine Adidas jumping on that kind of opportunity. Could be wrong though. Adidas, Nike, Under Armor, etc. etc. see marketing dollar value for every contract they ink. And if I'm a HC, I fully understand this before I even start the job on day one. I don't talk or even suggest NIL. My folk running the collective/NIL program does though. They mention contracts from Adidas. And the collective's staff is bigger than 2-10 employees. It's a well oiled machine. It keeps in touch with Adidas and Nike and fill in the blank. It understands how many Dasan McCullough jersey's are being sold and explains to Adidas the value of a player that was a true freshman and his market value at IUFB. And if Adidas doesn't listen I call Nike. So on and so forth. The collective fully understands that before I even take the HC job I fully comprehend coaching at IU is the relationship between the two of us. And the appeal to it. And if anyone associated to an IU collective is reading this, take notes. This will work only if everyone in the collective treats the collective as a fulltime job.

That’s interesting man. That’s effin interesting. So like trade NIL contracts to other NIL contracts? I’m not sure how that would work unless it’s a collective and I don’t think every school is doing collectives? But I really like the idea of it.

He's current valuation is 70k. Just saying. https://www.on3.com/db/dasan-mccullough-31202/nil/

Make no mistake, if I'm a HC at a P5 school all of my recruiting efforts are going straight to the transfer portal. My entire roster will be built from the portal. My entire strategy would be using whatever type of NIL system the school setup, collectives in IU's case, and pimp the crap out of it in order to keep the money flowing. The school's NIL system would be priority number 1. Those running it or involved with it will be on the same page as me. They would know exactly how to raise and allocate the money. I would use the resources of the school to help facilitate it. I would try my darnedest to scoop up transfers the way Dasan McCullough did. And I would do it all within the rules of the NCAA. Also, the NCAA is in big trouble if this NIL trajectory continues. I could be wrong but man, money talks and NCAA bs rules walks.

Keep in mind, these values are averages of the entire class. One recruit can really mess up the Avg. NIL Value (ANV). For Campbell it was a couple of recruits ($11.5k and $8.7k) that help jump the value and for IUFB it was one ($14.5k). Also these are just valuations. But what it really exposes is the lack of funds IUFB has or the amount of funds Campbell is willing to discuss during the recruitment. Either way it's part of the recruitment now.

Yes, and that should be a telltale for all of us IUFB faithful here.

Yes to all questions. I look at it as if it's a declaration to college football coaches not in Btown saying I'm available now if you're interested. For folks like Wethington and Spegal they now have a FBS resume and might be able to land a FBS scholarship somewhere. Both of them had FCS offers out of high school and I'd imagine they could probably make a few phone calls to Valpo and ISU if they wanted to. But making it public that they're in the portal just allows them to test the waters for potential bites elsewhere.

I don't disagree with you on this at all. I don't know the budget for any school and only basing it on an interview Don Fischer had with CTA this season. I'm assuming all the schools you mentioned above probably have a bigger budget than IUFB. A total assumption and don't really have a clue on this at all. I will however point out that any 4* recruit/transfer that IUFB is recruiting is more than likely being recruiting by either PSU, Michigan or OSU. And if they aren't that means the player isn't "good enough" to make the cut for these schools. So that means they are probably being recruited by a mid to top tier school like oh say an Auburn or Oregon (For example a recruit like Trevell Mullen). If you look at Trevell Mullen's offer sheet it's not out of the question to assume all but maybe two or three schools on that list have a budget less or comparable to IUFB. That's a tough hill to climb to get a transfer/recruit to come play here. Regardless it still doesn't change the lack of funds IUFB is dealing with for transfers and recruits. I think in the long run we'll start to see just how much it's gong hurt the program overall. But man, I hope to all the football gods out there that I'm wrong thinking this poop.

Oh man did they improve after Hiller was let go! I think you and I are on the same page here. I just think they're a little farther from being where I would like them to be. But yeah, they improved for sure. I'm in the dark with NIL just like you but it looks like it is becoming a factor when you hear coaches openly discuss money now. Even Saban is complaining about not being able to compete financially to his conference opponents. This tells me that it's probably a little more of a factor than us poor saps realize. I'm trying to look at it from the perspective of a college athlete. Back in my salad days I had the opportunity to continue on to play at the college level but declined, for various reason. Had money been thrown in my face I might have changed my tune a little. Now just think of money being thrown (from other schools in other conferences) at the best players on a lower tier Big Ten team? I'd imagine they're seeing numbers you and I would have dreamt about at 19, 20, 21 years old. Just from a financial competitive point of view, OSU's 13 million is what IUFB is working against. I'd imagine a lot of conversations with recruits and transfers are cut short once money is discussed. Who knows. I might be completely off about that but I feel pretty good about taking that to Vegas.

Should OSU and Michigan win the semifinal games I'd say that's one heck of a sell to come to IU right now.

I actually understand what you're saying and that's not crazy to say. But it's still has a lot of distance to cover if we're being honest with ourselves. Let's hope Bostad can get these guys to cover that distance in a hurry. If that happens IUFB might surprise folks the '23 season. I still think the biggest hurdle every position on the roster is going to face is NIL dollars. In this example, Bostad might have guys in mind to join the team but the money just isn't there to get them.

There are a ton of players available in the portal. I'm assuming Coach Bell is looking for the right QB to fit his offense. I mean at this current time a total of 13 available QB's (4 of them rated 4*) are listed today alone. The issue is the NIL dollars.
-
I understand losing players through the transfer portal seems like a sinking ship but keep in mind these players leaving played on the field, and they played below expectations. Good luck to them finding the right spot for them to get on the field. But if you're being honest with yourself, do you see Tuttle slinging it at a school like oh say, any school in the PAC-12 or SEC? I'd be surprised if that happens. Well maybe Vanderbilt. I think the only transfer so far worth a darn is Dasan McCullough. Other than that these players played on an IUFB team, that wasn't great. I guess what I'm trying to say here is all of these players (minus McCullough) jumping ship might end up in the MAC or Sun Belt or fill in the blank. And I was reading somewhere about the stats of actually landing a gig via the transfer portal is pretty low. The biggest issue with the current state of IUFB is NIL dollars. That's the focus we should all be paying attention to.

It's easy to look back with hindsight but the beginning of the end for CTA was keeping Hiller on staff at the end of last year's season. Had CTA let him go this team and 2021 staff is more than likely still intact. This is going to be interesting to watch unfold. The transfer portal is a game changer.
-
That's not a lot. IUFB will always be the bottom of the conference with money like this. It's like Evansville Thunderbolts money trying to compete against Nashville Predators money. And if/when CTA is no longer with IUFB good luck finding a quality coach accepting a job here with money like this.

I'd be shocked if Allen leaves for Liberty. And dumbfounded if Liberty offered the job to Allen.

Big Ten divisions are the laughing stock of the country. Can’t believe they are representing the west next week. What a joke. -
Man, I really hope that's just a rumor about his health. And if it isn't I'm sending him all the positive vibes I got.
-
I agree with you 100% but so far this year's offense doesn't really operate at all. ;-)

I don't blame Ballard for this current situation in Indy. He isn't coaching the team. I think this season is finally showing just how bad of a head coach Reich is. He doesn't have the Sirianni's and Eberflus' (Ballard hire pre Reich) to bail him out anymore. Who knows though maybe they'll turn it around and go on a win streak.

(2023) CB/S Travon West Decommits
Lebowski replied to Lebowski's topic in Indiana Football Recruiting Forum
West Virginia, Va Tech, Wake Forest, and Kansas St. all made offers to him. It appears most of his offers are closer to home. So who knows for his reasons of the decommit but best of luck to this gentleman.
