ND fans are in for a surprise when they realize IUFB isn't just an offensive football team and they're much better on defense than perceived. ND's toughest D they played against this season was NIU. IUFB's is arguably better. NIU's D is really good believe it or not. They're passing D and 3rd down D is one of the best in the country. Our run D is the best in the country. Folks just don't really talk about our D, which I prefer to keep it that way. Folks, defense wins championships. I really like our chances in the playoff.

I've already mentioned my desire to expand the FBS playoffs to more than 12 teams. I'd prefer the FCS model of a 24 team but wouldn't complain if it went to 16. Folks are pushing for neutral sites and a possible solution would be to designate existing bowl games regionally closest to the higher seed. This would also create new bowls as well. It would keep the traditionalist happy. Basically, every round would be a bowl game. Here is what a FCS style playoff would look like this year. Take note the discussion for us IUFB faithful would be about getting a first round bye.

Nah man, they were a lock. No way in hell they would create a mess of leaving out a one loss Big Ten school in a 12 team playoff. No way in hell. Not a chance. The likely discussions with IUFB was more about hosting a game.

I won't be surprised to see PSU and Texas lose their first round games. I really really like our chances to win up in South Bend.

ESPN is complaining about the "SOS issue" that they basically created when the conferences expanded.

It's effin insane a one loss Big Ten school isn't even being considered to host a game in an EXPANDED playoff. An absolute travesty.

Just a heads up, RJ Young also had us the worst ranked Big Ten team in his preseason ranking. https://x.com/CFBONFOX/status/1823039478585590203?t=9Sok3DHnZPe1Ib5HHEpsXg&s=19

IUFB hasn't played them yet.

SMU responding. Down 7 now.

I would Roll Tide out of the effin playoffs if it were up to me.

Clemson up 7 early in the 1st.

That's not targeting.

The players have openly said they want another crack at O$U. Not sure if that's possible but I concur with the players. Honestly, I'm cool with whoever we play. I really like our chances to advance in the playoff.

Unknown. I was just looking at the JMU players because of the history of the coaching staff. -
I think going to ND is a real possibility. I also think going to Columbus is the other real possibility. I don't see Texas dropping that much.

A chance for hardware in the case, a week to rest while scouting your potential opponents vs no championship trophy and playing a potential road game seems like a no brainer to me. I would assume winning the conference is a goal set during the offseason and pretty high up there on the list. Who knows man, maybe these players see a conference championship as meaningless? Personally, I don't, but that's just me.

Best of luck to Sunseri. He'll be calling plays against Haines next year.

I wouldn't too much into it. I didn't. I think he was asked why they didn't pursue a QB for this year's signees? I could be wrong.
-
You are correct. This year they were allowed to schedule 12 but 11 games is the norm.
-
Yep. This isn't the NFL where there's only one league of 32 teams. The NFL shouldn't even be a comparison for something like this. The FCS should be the model for comparison. The FCS normally schedules 11 regular season games. This year they were allowed to schedule 12. It features a 24-team postseason bracket: 10 teams decided via automatic bids issued to conference champions, 14 at-large bids and the top 16 teams are seeded. They started the playoff this past Saturday. The national championship game will be played January 6th, 2025. The max amount of games a school would be able to qualify for is 16 to 17 depending on the calendar year.

Dude could be listed at 5'7" 170 for all I care. LOL!!!!
-
FCS has had this bracket for years. Probably should do away the conference championships though.

Honestly, I'd prefer the "FCS style" playoff. Here is what it would look like if it started tomorrow.
