What HAVEN'T we argued about yet? History!! How about this- Vicksburg was more important to ending the war than Gettysburg. Discuss. Here's some trivia for you: John Tyler was the 10th President, born in 1790. He has 2 grandsons that are still living! He had children late in life and so did his son. Remarkable. What does this have to do with IU's coaching search? You know what John Tyler did not have? A beard.....make of that what you will. Video -

Fair point, BUT IUFB literally had nothing to lose. IUBB is a different story. -

That is the key to me. Beard is a good coach, but not outstanding. Regardless of his personal issues, IU can do better, IMO. If Beard was a choir-boy with a spotless reputation he still isn't top tier. -

Your assesment is reasonable. I just hope it doesn't come to that, since I have no interest in Cronin. He's got a decent enough record....I just hate that evil little leprechaun. -

I hope this isn't true. I want the best coach, not checked boxes. -

Kinda where I am. I don't think he's the best "coach". His quality as a human being is another story. Not saying he's terrible or not an improvement, but IU can do better. -

Didn't there used to be a guy here pursuing his PhD at Purdue....I thought he had Boiler in his username? -

Still Worth it. Woodson is a total loser in every way, he has showed his ceiling is under-performing with solid talent. The good news is IU doesn't need 8-10 top tier candidates. They need one. No, it's not gonna be Brad Stevens, not likely Dusty May either, but there are other coaches that are 2-3 levels above Woodson, even if they aren't big names. -

I understand not all success is a straight up path. Also, recognize that, Collins for instance, could do better at IU than NW with better resources. Having said that, why reward mediocrity? I believe the goal is for IU to hire the best option available, not merely someone that "isn't a complete train-wreck "or even "has some potential." Identify the best option and pursue. Repeat until you have a coach. Of course there will be trade-offs and sacrifices, there are no perfect options. If the best coach IU can get it Richard Pitino, Jr? Well, I guess that mean Purdue is right, IU sucks and we get what we deserve. -

If coaches are getting T'd up at a 3rd grade game someone is taking themselves way too seriously. From your description, sounds like the refs in this case. Reffing little guys is a thankless job for sure, but they should have been embarrassed responding like that. -

Tell me you've never been to Ames, IA without telling me you've never been to Ames, IA. Actually Iowa St punches above their weight in BB. Another reason for IU to feel about being in the wilderness for 25yrs. -

But this isn't the typical dead man walking scenario. Woodson has announced he's "retiring." However, I get not over-shadowing the season. IF Stevens were coming (I am quite skeptical) there is no advantage to him to announce immediately. -

I do have a sincere question for discussion. We’ve been so engrossed with “IF” Stevens will be the coach, not much thought seems to have gone into “should” he be the coach. It’s just been axiomatic that ‘of course Brad is the best coach alive!’, but…. Is he? He hasn’t coached in the NCAA in over 10yrs. Pre conference merger mania, pre NIL, pre transfer portal. It’s a whole new world from his quaint Horizon league days at Butler community college. He hasn’t even coached at all in the last four years. He won in the NBA, but never made the finals, let alone won them. Clearly, he’s a sharp guy that knows a ton about basketball, does that translate to the best possible option for IUBB? -

Please, let's not do that anymore. -
That's where I am. Drew's had more sustained success than Brad Stevens (since NBA experience is meaningless in NCAA as we've seen) and he won a NC at BAYLOR. There are some nitpicks about his resume for sure and he wouldn't be my first choice, but objectively speaking, he's a good hire. Considering the moronic choices IU has made 3 of the last 4 times, possibly a great one.

Wow, forgot about JG, excellent point! I think a young lady would be safe in a parked car with any of the 3 since they are so clumsy & awkward they'd drop second base and never be able unzip, unsnap or open anything. -

Here's the real question- who had worse hands Hanner or Justin Smith? I don't either ever caught a ball cleanly. I'm surprised they could even feed themselves as difunctional as their hands appeared to be. Now back to General Coach Candidate News.....
