2018 General Recruiting Thread
Hardwood83 replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Me too. I'm going to run laps around the outside my house- naked. Actually........that is a pretty common occurrence, but I'll come up with something special for the occasion. Has Romeo said "spring" or is that just assumed? -
(2018) C Moses Brown to UCLA
Hardwood83 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Of course we want the talent of OAD players, I think the point was if they are prima donnas or straight up "me-first" mercenaries they may be more trouble then they are worth. I'm not saying that is the case with Brown or anyone else, but if a kid is already bragging about how fast he'll get to the league, before his Sr yr of HS, you gotta wonder what sort of team-mate he'll be in college. -
Clearly, but hopefully the NCAA will butch up with UNC telling them to get off their yard.

I'm with you on the top 5 finish but I'll be content (at this point) with a single tourney win. Hey, and how about a B1G tourney championship for a change!?! This team isn't spectacular, but has some tools and if Miller is the coach we all hope he should win right away. The B1G may be better, but still isn't scary at all.

My concern is even if Davis is fantastic there isn't any depth behind him. Priller is really the back-up Center at this point. Does anyone want to see McSwain or Moore guarding whatever freakishly gigantic dork Purdoo puts on the floor? Me either.

2018 General Recruiting Thread
Hardwood83 replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Not sure I understand your question. What does waiting and seeing if Archie is the right guy have to do with being a fan? The perception is Miller is a no-nonsense, bottom line type of guy. Fine by me, I'm judging him the same way. I'm not reserving my support, just waiting for on court results- like everyone else. I wanted Bennett, but he'd have to win too, if he had been hired. But Archie's the guy now, end of story. Early indications from him are very positive. Now I want wins, early, often and consistently. That's how he proves he's "the guy." -
(2018) SF Jericole Hellems to NC State

I would feel better with a back-up to Davis in the post though. In a perfect world a nice Sr Grad Transfer Center would drop in our lap, a la Max. Belein has to have someone else to run-off by now, doesn't he? -

Not at all. "shockingly" was sarcastic -

Shockingly, no one asked for my input, but I didn't particularly like Archie's hire. Still, he's the Coach now and I want him to succeed wildly, then no one will remember nor care what I thought, including me. I'm still not ready to say he's "the guy" just yet, but he has done a lot I like. Pulling in Romeo would be nice. -

I agree. It may sound like sour grapes, but completely true. What could possibly be the justification of going to a $h!t-hole like Louisville? -
Dude is a beast. If he can develop a little more touch and feel for the game I think he'll contribute. He certainly can match up physically and also there is no one else :)

2017 July Evaluation Period
Hardwood83 replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I love red-shirts. Not specifically for Thompson, just in general. I believe it is a huge development tool. Wisconsin big men are a prime example of how to do it. I'm too lazy to look, but am pretty confident Happ, Kaminsky and all those guys were not elite recruits. After a year of seasoning and conditioning and look at how they contribute. Great model to emulate. -

With at least 6 open spots for next year IU has to get at least 4 in this class, right? -
(2018) PF Jake Forrester to IU

So it's a preliminary list? Not sure of the point if doesn't mean anything. -
(2018) PF Brandon Johns to Michigan
Hardwood83 replied to goonaha's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
I'm not ok with waiting 2-3 yrs for recruiting or on-court success nor do I blame Crean. If Miller is the right guy then he will get it done. I don't expect miracles, but he has the players to win games and tools to get recruits. Crean certainly has a lot of short-comings and that got him fired. Now it's Archie's baby and all credit/blame is his. So again, if he can't get it done, then he isn't the right guy for the job, imo. -

Yeah, me too although I woulda preferred someplace else. He looks like a ND kid. -
Chris Holtmann named Ohio State Head Coach
Hardwood83 replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I'm not sure if it is anger or made-up drama to stir the pot. Either way it gets old. I think he knows basketball, but the over-the-top opinions to create controversy are tiring. -
Not only that- but whatever you think about providing "services" for players/recruits, academic fraud is worse. It cuts to the absolute reason for the University to even exist. So education is a farce to cover for athletics and vacuuming up $$$ from the Feds & state? UNC should get a vicious beat-down for their complicity in this farce and fighting to cover it up. My suggestion is not the death penalty but a loss of 13 scholarships for 2 seasons forcing them to use all walk-ons. Let them put that JV team they are so proud of on the floor. At least those kids likely go to class.
-
These penalties are better then I expected, but less then I hoped. Vacating wins, meh. 5 game suspension? Meaningless. I wanted post-season bans and large scholarship cuts, THAT is punishment. Not the current kids fault? Sorry, stay out of the sewer and you won't get slimy. A coach pimping for players is disgusting and has to be punished.

(2018) SF Nahziah Carter to Washington
Hardwood83 replied to Uspshoosier's topic in Indiana Basketball Recruiting Forum
Agreed. The perfect scenario would be a Grad Transfer Big man with Bielfeldt's skills but with a couple yrs eligibility left (like Zeisloft). Doubt such a creature exists. I'm very sensitive to the (lack of) post depth. -
Too bad for Crean, I think he'd be a good fit at someplace like Creighton. They care about basketball but not the pressure & expectations of IU. He could bring in the same level of players and do fine, IMO.

Not trying to be argumentative, but I disagree for the fact I don't think there are any Duke fans that can remember that time. They are an entirely new phenomena. Who is Duke's fan-base? Not alumni, they're are unicorns. Not the huge local support. Certainly not the teeming mass of Mike Gminski fans. Sorry no one even knew Duke existed before 1986. And the band-wagon didn't start loading up until the early 90's.
-
The bigger question is "why are there Duke fans on this board?" As for the game, call me a pessimist but I see: Davis will have 2 fouls before the first media timeout, Allen will have 17 FT attempts for the game and Dickie V will be physically humping Coach K's leg during the last 5mins of garbage time.
